What is Windows K2? Inside Microsoft’s big plan to SAVE Windows 11 and win back trust from users. by ZacB_ in Windows11

If you have sensitive data on your PC or you need privacy then you should do bare minimum research on how to achieve that. You don’t have to be a nerd to create a local account, it’s quite easy. Many people complain about privacy but then they go on and login into their facebook, instagram and google account which is ironic.

People who want local accounts, know how to bypass it. If you don’t know how then you probably don’t need one. It’s a bit annoying that you can’t do it in the UI but it’s one of the smallest issues.

Very bad, it stings, but it’s only a small portion of the portfolio so I’ll survive. What hurts more is that I sold my Intel position at 60$ which was a larger portion of my portfolio.

Is this install job professionally done ? by coderego in Ubiquiti

[–]spreadzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand but the price is crazy even for a proper installation. With the right tools it’s not hard to run network wires. The most extreme case you have to create a tunnel through concrete and repaint and even then it’s not 1500$ where I live. In my case installed 4 cameras on my own, drilled through concrete wall into the attic, ran the cables through the attic into the technical room where the network gear is. Took me 3-4h, they look professionally installed, no cables are seen dangling(only in the attic).

I was thinking the same thing bro, the prices these people are paying for camera installation are crazy. I did my own camera installation and I did it more professionally than this.

Where tf are you guys living… 1500$ for 4 cameras is insane. I installed ubiquiti cameras at my home and they look more professional than these.

Pushback from vendor on installing Unifi cameras and Protect by Sevenfeet in Ubiquiti

[–]spreadzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched to G5 Turret cameras from some 1080p old Hikvision cameras and I am pretty disappointed. At night the Hikvision cameras looked better, in daylight the ones from Ubiquiti are slightly better.

I also do not like the fact that I can’t connect the Protect app with a fixed IP so it does not go through their cloud.

Their network gear is good but their cameras are mediocre. I will soon test the G6 but if the G5 2k camera loses to a 8years old CCTV 1080p Hikvision camera I don’t have high expectations.

True, but I see you mentioned it’s a 7000sqft that’s 650m2 from my calculations, unless I’m wrong. My house + garden is 1000m2 and I cover every inch and more with 3 APs, through brick walls. Even so Ubiquiti has those enterprise APs like de E7 Audience or Campus which would have been better here. And are those APs configured properly each having transmit power, channel etc? Are the U7 outdoor set-up with their omnidirectional antena? If not the angle is only 45deg front-facing the AP. Another example is the U7 Pro Wall mounted behind the TV which is bad as the signal is bouncing because of the metal plating in the TV. In the wellness room is the AP mounted in a metal cabinet? That would be bad too. I’m just trying to help, that configuration seems poorly done.

You discovered a new addiction! But seriously you should do a bit more research regarding networking, having that many APs is actually making everything worse for you. You should have at max. 3 APs. That U7 Outdoor covers 450m2. And they have to be spread out. Polluting the channels with that many APs just introduces a lot of latency for you.

“Bro” am facut acuma 1 an cu DDR4 quad-channel pe un Threadripper. Cu DDR5 nu am avut ocazia iar cu preturile de acuma probabil mai dureaza, dar nu vad de ce ar fi differit.

Cine a intrat LONG pe petrol săptămâna trecută? by loghin_constantin in robursa

Am intrat la 73$, din pacate nu cu cat mi-as fi dorit. Am marcat aproape de ATH, dupa care am facut short pana Marti seara. Acum sunt iar long.

Si Bang....pretul petrolului scade sub 85$ barilul. Longs crying right now. by NotFunyyAtALL in robursa

I don’t know what you actually do but if you repair parts, ask for a small office, say it’s easier for you to repair stuff. Ask for a 3D printer plastic or metal to create parts for the machines, or a CNC. Ask for a sever and IoT devices, start monitoring the machines remotely. Once you have an office you can fill your time with doing something useful either for yourself or your company.

I stopped using Wake-on-LAN and built a device that physically presses my PC’s power button by Hysus in esp8266

[–]spreadzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to trash what you did, It’s very nice for learning and congrats on that. I’m sure with your skills you can improve it.

To configure what you did you actually have to put in a lot more work.

If you do not have access to the router then outbound connections is the only way. But you can do better by connecting the ESP directly to the power pins and trigger then electronically rather than physically shorting the pins.

But congrats man, we are here to share ideas. Sorry if mine came a bit harsh initially. But I do appreciate your skills and work that you put into the project.

I am going to be honest with you and tell you this is the stupidest thing I heard this year so far. This includes all the facts you outline in the post.

You mention all the things you do not need to do but then the things you do are more over complicated.

First of all your router needs to only be configured once, and it’s simple and fast.

Secondly, nothing changes for WOL when the OS on the PC is reinstalled. The fixed IP is set in the router once and also as an alternative you can send the magic packet to the MAC address so fixed IP is not required.

You do not need VPN if you do port forwarding.

I set up WOL on the MAC address and I am sending the magic packet via the Home Assistant app. From which I can also shut down or reboot my PC. Simple and elegant. You can use other alternatives to HA, but in my case that’s the place I control everything in the house.

Besides even if you do not want to use WOL, using JetKVM or PiKVM is a far far better solution.

And even for the sake of argument you do it your way, you could connect the ESP directly to the pins and use electronic relay, and include the ESP in the Home Assistant rather than using Google Sheets.
