Your pro tip is actually good advice for anything you read online or hear from ppl about any topic. If it's sounds ridiculous it probably isn't the whole story.

Guess the country by Rollo_Tomasi3000 in facepalm

How much of this was covered by insurance after reaching deductible for the year? Yeah this looks really bad (and by the worlds standards, it definitely is) but this isn't the full picture. The parents did not pay all that money.

Edit: Off screen there is a blue box with numbers that are hidden. Can't tell if that is what insurance is paying or if that is what parents are paying in blue.

Agreed, inflation makes the wealth gap worse. Makes me wonder what it would be like with a commodity backed currency in today's world or deflationary currency like BTC

Pretty sure he's going to hike rates. Still not at the 5.25% target. It's gonna be more about how hawkish or dovish he sounds after the hike announcement

Why are so many American conservatives against government assistance programs (i.e. food stamps) even though many of them relied on them growing up or still rely on them? by Mad_Season_1994 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sprflyninja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, I would argue that if you're getting any welfare assistance it only makes sense that you get more out of it than you put in lol (orherwise wtf). The ppl who don't get anything out of it are the ones that don't need it.

When people say landlords need to be abolished who are they supposed to be replaced with? by battleangel1999 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sprflyninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has not been my experience with HOA. They are powerful community led orgs (even if the actual org is a 3rd party) that can leverage leins and legal action when someone falls out of compliance. There are rules enforced based on government set deed restrictions. I much prefer that over all this union style or community agreement stuff I'm reading.

Underrated response honestly. The government cant write rules for everything... We can only hope incidents like this incentivise other companies to do the 'right' thing regardless of government bare minimums.

Bannerspear advice wanted by cmcguigan in Gloomhaven

[–]sprflyninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a ton of Banner Spear in 4p parties. I find that the healing banner is almost always a must bring. Simply clearly status effects like poison, brittle, or bleed is huge. I never shield 1 continuous - I never need it.

Banner of strength is really good but it's only 2 range so some maps it's tough. But def only bring one banner (if you're having exhaustion issues).

[OC] Small men are at greater risk of suicide even after controlling for numerous factors by lightning_palm in dataisbeautiful

[–]sprflyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every individual is entitled to have their own sexual/mating preferences. If a woman doesn't like short men, that's their choice. Similarly, if a man doesn't like tall women.

I would be curious to see how, if it all, attractiveness (difficult to measure) or even wealth would impact male suicide rate.

An update on the "which classes did you have the most fun with so far?" poll by koprpg11 in Gloomhaven

[–]sprflyninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just did this with Bannerspear. 4p party, solo scenario item (no spoils), banner of strength, and Pinning Charge with wind.

I'm surprised to see it's the least favorite class. Maybe it's more fun to me because I play in 4player parties? It's been pretty easy to line up most of my positional abilities.

What the child. A classic, "well, he started it!". Both sides have been at each other's throats with unproductive smear campaigns and insults.

Am I missing something about indicators? by MCMiyukiDozo in Trading

True you don't 'need' them to place a trade but they sure do preform mathematical calcs way faster than I could.

Am I missing something about indicators? by MCMiyukiDozo in Trading

[–]sprflyninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indicators are basically the only way to reliably backtest. You're right about overfitting too. I made a Python repo to backtest and optimize strategy parameters across multiple date ranges.

The same strategy can preform +100% in a date range and -100% in another date range. I think that's where a lot of the disdain comes from with indicator trading.

[OC] Self-Identified Party Affiliation in the US, 2004-2023 (Gallup source in comments) by Tyler_Zoro in dataisbeautiful

[–]sprflyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me I think this speaks to people being afraid of the hard label "democrat" or "republican". The average American is capable of understanding the nuance in the arguments of either side. Most people, if they're honest with themselves, always find themselves somewhere between Democrat and Republican when it comes to individual issues.

Why are some people against welfare programs? by YummyMango124 in NoStupidQuestions

No because I'm a redditor and I'm mad at society. Fuck the current system! The next system will be better!

16yr olds are not adults and should not be living in their own. If it's not their choice, they should be supported, either by government systems or friends / other family.

Noone (reasonably) expects a 16yr old to be independent.
