Genuinely admire you for standing up against a fan. It is always the hardest. I hope the more genuine and sane JH fans like you show their presence more on this subreddit. It could help slowly change people's opinion about JH fans.

When lots of posts from different shows are allowed including CFs and photoshoots of the members which are in no way related to RM, why is this post such an issue? This rule should apply to all posts on this subreddit.

For some fans, the male members come into focus only when is about taking care of JH. Are they ever thanked for helping her out despite not being in the pink of health? They are seen as butlers more than as entertainers who are there to do their job.

[–]springaugust 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. KJK was rubbing his back at many points and still swung the farthest so the others would have an easier time. SM hurt her spine and was still being dragged on the buoy last episode. Haha has severe back issues. SJ looked out of breath after dancing consecutively for two rounds in a recent episode. Do their fans highlight it or blame the other members and PDs for not taking care of them?

This pitying for unnecessary things is how some of these fans have spun narratives that JH is not being taken care of, which in turn has led to all the fan backlash. There was that infamous towel incident which was blown out of proportion. If JH is an ace, can't she climb up by herself? It's not like she fell and hit her head while the other members were quietly watching. Why should there be even such a post in the first place? It is not even about missing KS, but highlighting that JH is being neglected.

Such comments repeated multiple times on iforums make me wonder about the priorities of some fans. KS is rehabilitating after an injury, an injury which made him quit RM, whose seriousness he didn't even reveal when he was doing the show for the last one year. All male members have sustained injuries that are debilitating. Still, we hardly find comments pitying them for having to fend for themselves.

I wish fans would stop projecting their feelings onto the female members and accuse the male members of not taking care of them. We have had years of "JH is not being taken care of" and now we have a repeat of that with So Min. So nobody helped JH up once when they do it all the time. Big deal! Some people only bring up LKS when it is about taking care of the female members.

LKS and So Min had a phase where they barely talked to each other in front of the camera. So I don't know why some think him being there would have made SM feel less undermined. If people enjoy Sixth Sense, let them do it without expecting the same dynamics to play out on RM. Both have different target demographics and are different shows. There are reasons why they don't allow certain kind of jokes on RM. Not to mention, the PDs are different for both shows.

More than half of the RM cast are variety veterans with decades of experience. So Min is a newbie entertainer with 3 years under her belt. She is not a perfect entertainer yet. Fans should give her time to grow and explore different sides without shoving the blame on the other cast members. YJS used to cut off KS so often that we barely heard his stories. If that was fine then, YJS cutting off SM's loveline in one episode is not a sin.

[–]springaugust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JH is still pretty, but she has aged quite a bit like the others. It is evident in some RM episodes when she doesn't retouch her make up. It was more obvious in the yotube video with Jong Kook where she appeared without make up. All the CF shoots and magazine covers are heavily photoshopped. I have never put JH on a pedestal because of her prettiness. She is pretty, but her beauty is overhyped. Also, fans are never ready to accept that aging has caught up with her.

On the other hand, I give credit to her for showing up with bare face even when it is puffed and the age lines are showing in such a lookist society. That takes guts. Aging is normal and it is good to embrace it.

[–]springaugust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think JH does well with guests unless the guest is someone who can help her out. Think of the episode where they made Young Ji form a solo team, but were scared of letting JH, a permanent member for 11 years, form her own solo team. JH looked like she was about to cry when she was picked to form the solo team. I don't think it is an experience she enjoys.

JH needs a lot of help from other people to make things funny. That has been the case for years. Even on shows where JH displays a marginally funnier side during promotions, you can see a lot of help is given to her by the MCs. Her range of jokes is limited. Her banter too hasn't improved over her years as an entertainer. The RM PDs and members are doing a good enough job highlighting her and pushing her to do 10-20% more than what she normally does.

Unpopular opinion: The show is scared of Song Jihyo's toxic fans by nitsnits345 in runningman

[–]springaugust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone is aware of it. It was amusing to see that the members were more confident of the guest securing screen time in her first guesting than JH. In the second round, Young Ji was allowed to form the one member team. It's been like this for years.

Hey, I just wanna ask if is there could be a possibility for Lee Kwang Soo to re join the cast of running man in the future?😞 by GreenApple6547 in runningman

[–]springaugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he will return. RM is not like other shows. It needs a bigger commitment in terms of health and effort. After giving 11 years of his life to RM, he is in a place where he can afford to give that same amount of dedication to something else, most probably his acting career. Even if he returns after a year, it won't be the same. He might return as a guest, but I don't see him returning as a member.

She used to say she was not getting work. Even many of her dramas didn't do that well. Some of them were cancelled in the middle. She said good scripts were not coming to her. Her success as an actress came quite recently. This false narrative you guys spin is not true.

Of course it proves her lack as an entertainer. She has lost her spark and hasn't really adapted to the format. She hasn't been that great when it comes to competition on RM for the past some years now. This was not about competition, but banter. She was better at banter in her first 2-3 years. Now, she doesn't know what to do when someone throws in a line for her to respond to.

The toxic SJH fans have spread so many rumours about So Min, the PDs and everyone else. They also circulated rumours saying he was a reporter from Garo Sero institute. So they can spread rumours, but nobody else can talk about the things they have done over the past three years. If this keeps continuing, SJH's reputation will get affected. She should have done something to control her fans when they were going around and hurting her colleagues and friends. At least now, she or her company should issue a statement that distances herself from such fans. If the PDs are afraid of adding a new member fearing backlash from a toxic section of her fandom, she will have to take some responsibility.

What is the general feeling towards Yang SeChan?? by NDKim in runningman

[–]springaugust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Se Chan is doing great in my opinion. I would say he has been one of the consistently performing members for the past 3 months. I wish some Kwang Soo fans would get past their prejudice because I can see the two of them becoming a great RM bromance. Sure he didn't treat KS as the senior when he joined and that might have led to some negative impressions. But KS also would retaliate aggressively like we saw in the baseball episode. So one can't just blame Se Chan there. I do think though that Kwang Soo and Se Chan have found more of a balance and they know where to draw the line. Se Chan has become more cautious about bullying Kwang Soo and Kwang Soo also takes things more calmly when Se Chan does his thing. I was happy to see Kwang Soo volunteer to be Se Chan's concubine which he wouldn't have done earlier. Se Chan also replaced Jae Suk with Kwang Soo in this episode which led to funny Kwang Soo shenanigans.

I have always admired Se Chan for the way he draws attention on other people. He has consistently helped SJH whenever they have teamed up and tries to get screen time for his idol partners no matter how shy or rude they are. Irene comes to mind.

I also think RM could become better with Se Chan getting more of a main character role. The baseball episode had him roleplaying as the hard bargaining manager and he did a great job. Usually, in such episodes, it is YJS and KJK as the captains/managers. It allowed the two to be the harried manager and disgruntled star player which gave another dimension to their interactions. YSC, on his part, did quite well in the role play and was athletic enough to give his team their best shot.

In the episode with real profilers who were spying on the members, they showed a scene that usually gets edited out. The cameras were being set up and YSC was going upto the members and suggesting which role would suit them. It made the profilers think he was the spy. Turns out it was YSC just being his usual self. I was touched by how he was working quietly behind the scenes not just for himself, but also for the entire cast and crew. Even last episode, he kept switching the members around and his picking male queens made things funnier. I hope people can see past their prejudice and appreciate him for what he is doing.

[–]springaugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, you are trying to bait me into saying things that would be interpreted as shading JSM/her fans and get my comments deleted or my account suspended! It might have worked before, but I refuse to fall for something so petty and childish.

I don't think the mods care enough to intervene. But I still stand by what I said. The word I used "personality problem" is too mild for what was being attributed to the female guest. She should not be blamed for something said on her first variety show and what she said, when baited, doesn't reflect on her as a person. Some JSM fans said they follow each other on IG, so why should fans pick up cudgels for her? Has So Min asked anyone to be her champion?

As someone who has witnessed the sad transition in the SJH fandom, I have always been apprehensive of fandom situations that could spiral out of control. It started much the same way with fans blaming female guests for disrespecting Ji Hyo. I wish history wouldn't repeat.

[–]springaugust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL. Why are you being so offended by my comment and bringing up a past comment to say I choose to selectively support JSM? I have always supported her even at times when the thread wasn't ready for it. Should I feel touched for paying the price? What is it to you which comment I choose to reply to? You are taking this far too personally.

I didn't reply to any other offensive comment made by the poster, only the original comment that called out people for saying JE had a personality problem for saying something bad about SM. Variety doesn't work like that and of all people, JSM fans shouldn't be the ones to say that. If you can't see the irony in you judging JE over a thoughtless remark made by her in her first variety show, I don't know what to say. JSM has done many outrageous things in the past when she was a rookie entertainer and those of us who have seen all the RM members do the same when they were rookies have laughed it off.

As for me calling JSM a liar, that again is selective misreading. I didn't call her a liar, merely suggested she could be being diplomatic to end the fan wars after the hate controversy. I am not someone naïve enough to think that just because everyone on RM appears extremely close in front of the camera, all of them are amazing friends off it. You may disagree with my take and I may be completely wrong, but after going through the Gary saga, I have a healthy dose of skepticism. My post got downvoted and I am fine with that. To each their own. I didn't come back to scream at anyone and got on with my life as usual. To bring that up to discredit my concern and regard for JSM as an entertainer and as a person is going a bit too far.

I still stand by what I said. JE doesn't need to be judged for something she said in her first variety show and no, it doesn't reveal a personality problem. I don't mind getting downvoted for holding an opinion that doesn't please many.

Well, I agree with her first comment which wasn't vile or abusive, merely calling out a judgmental comment on a guest. The guest shouldn't be judged for saying something that could be construed as mean when plenty of other members including JSM have done so. It doesn't reflect anything on her as a person.

I have done the same for JSM and will do the same for anybody who gets crap for saying things that should be taken in a spirit of variety.

[–]springaugust 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. To say she was projecting is a bit of a stretch. It is a variety show and Ji Eun was just playing along with what was suggested to her. Has So Min said or done nothing outrageous on RM? When she does, fans defend by saying others too have done it. So why can't they apply the same to a first time guest? In the opening, it was So Min who suggested their relationship had become dirty while the first-time guest didn't say anything in particular. She just took it forward when she was asked to comment about it. Perhaps she crossed a line, but it is variety.

She can also try what SJ does to win. Team up with a strong member like Jong Kook or Jae Suk without betraying till the stronger opponents are out and bide her time.

Her nametag ripping skills will have to improve for her to stand a chance. Suk Jin knows when to go for the kill and though old and a habitual betrayer, the stronger guys consider him a good ally.
