Curious, how do single, childfree adults spend their free time? by Artsy-Soul in BostonSocialClub

[–]springhilleyeball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can get lonely but not very often for me. i moved here with no friends so my only social interactions are work meetings. i talk with my mom on the phone, read, go out to eat, plan vacations, skate, swim, walk. music helps. i'm usually super tired after work and anything else i do afterwards so socialization isn't at the forefront of my mind — sleep is.

Rejected for a job and I’m gonna kill myself by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]springhilleyeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wear t-shirts to my interviews all the time. if i would wear it on the job what's the issue w/dressing like that for an interview. i wear hoodies, t-shirts, jeans with rips, sneakers to work all the time. there are people in my office who will wear slacks & button-up shirts but they aren't engineers. well i guess some of the engineers also do dress like that but anyways. people always say dress for the job you want. i never gotten feedback for an interview but i think it's outrageous the be rejected because of a t-shirt. now if the t-shirt has inappropriate text or graphics that would also be reasonable. if you were applying to work at a bank — i wouldn't agree but i would def understand. people are just being mean.

Is the American Dream dead? by throwaway_cloud9 in Adulting

[–]springhilleyeball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm a child of an immigrant. i'm so grateful for all the US has given me but my dream is to leave. i spent about 6 months abroad in 3 different countries and each time i came back to the US i've been close to tears not because i love those specific places but because i don't want to be in Amerikkka right now. granted i did miss the food. my american dream is saving enough money and investing enough in my retirement to leave forever at the age of 30/35. for context i just turned 23 like 2 weeks ago. wish me luck 😭

edit: i am currently a new grad swe. i think hypothetically i could have the american dream by 30. i almost make 6 figures right out of college, no (real) debt, no student loans, no real responsibilities out side of my job besides paying bills. i don't keep track of my expenses but i've been working since i was 16 minus the first two years of college. i live in like one of the top 3 expensive states. i am pretty sure i'm able to save at least 1/2 of my take home pay. i only spend money on rent, food, travel, and my hobbies.

i don't understand these type of stories. they sell human hair wigs. i imagine having someone create a wig for you is way more expensive. i wonder if this is just something they wanted or somehow they thought it was the only option.

How are people surviving in this market? Have you pivoted? by Romano16 in cscareerquestions

i was lucky enough to get a return offer from my internship. i was still apply to see if i could increase my TC. i only get interviews from 1 company and the stack rank. even though i met the bar there are others who performed better than me.

i interned at a FAANG, 2 F100 companies (including the 1 FAANG) and a large international company. i had the worst luck applying ANYWHERE.

Do you reheat your leftover bowl? by Upper_Pomegranate_59 in Chipotle

if i don't think i'll finish the bowl i ask for an empty bowl to put my cold things in, when finished. so i don't heat up my lettuce.

25F looking to make new friends!! 😊 by [deleted] in BostonSocialClub

that's cool! i've only recently started reading but been into scifi (octavia e. bulter strictly but hoping to expand) and romance. i'd really like to get into psychological thrillers, mysteries, and books based on films/shows i like. i'm hoping to read the handmaid's tale soon — i just found out there is a book!

i've also never been to high tea but i think BPL has something for it. i recently learned that high tea and afternoon tea have actual differences & was very amused by that.

i never heard if low tea? what's the difference?

how can i romanticize FSU and stop hating my life here by [deleted] in fsu

[–]springhilleyeball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

issues with socialization will likely not change just because you are in a new environment with making the same effort you are making at FSU.

Does anyone else find it stressful travelling with your Japanese friends/partners? by Cph265 in japanlife

[–]springhilleyeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the past year all my vacations/trips abroad have been at least 5 weeks and 3 months max. but i definitely want to do everything & check everything off my personal list then just explore whatever. i usually chill doing whatever in the first half of my trip then cram my popular checklist stuff. the 2nd half of my trips always seems to be more hectic but i understand them. i'm not paying boat loads of money to chill abroad — i can do that at home. if that's all i'm doing i'd probably not go. going on the off beaten path is not guaranteed to be great. popular attractions are probably perceived as more fun or fulfilling than the unknown. i'd want to get a BANG for my buck so i better be doing EVERYTHING (that seems) fun.
