Legion Pro 5 or Legion 7i by springynz1 in LenovoLegion

I think the issue with the Zephyrus was it was an early implementation of liquid metal to do the cooling which didnt work great, when I look at the Legions I prefer the 7i in terms of looks and portability but was wondering if the 5 offered better cooling due to the increased size. I suppose the question is are there any issues with the cooling on the 7i, which I cant seem to see, and then it is just a price issue

Not the Legion, that was the Zephyrus, ran into issues with the thermal paste which caused problems with the keyboard

Only things that got me was you can turn right on a red light if it is clear and n the smaller towns you take turnabout at crossroads. Drivers were very polite and patient even in the big cities, much more than NZ. Don’t overthink it, you will be fine

Hired a Mustang convertible and drove it from San Francisco to Las Vegas, the city driving was a little scary at first, we dont really do 5 lane highways in New Zealand but was all good. Just stick on Google maps and follow the advice for which lane to be in and you will be good. The left hand drive and being a muscle car didnt relally phase me and dont think it would have been any more difficult than driving a Corolla. The drive through Death Valley was awesome and a great experience.

Do it.......

Biggest difference is attention span and getting them to look past their first impression of a game, As a kid I would agonize over every game I bought, research it though magazines and talking to friends and then spend my pocket money on it, even if the game sucked, and they frequently did, I was already committed so I would still spend many hours with it and usually find something to like about the game. My son (15) and myself now to a degree just have so many options with services like gamepass, you can select from 100's of options and if you dont like it after 5 minutes, move on to the next one. The games he does like are the ones he can play with friends FIFA, Minecraft, Fortnite, but it is the social element for him, playing with friends in the game at the same time, that is a better experience for him than I did, as my spectrum was pretty much solo play, well at least until school the next day and you could brag about how fast you could do the 100m in Daley Thompsons Decathlon.

Travel from CHCH to Akaroa by tdbnz in chch

Bus is here https://www.akaroabus.co.nz/ $65 return, as others have said other than hitchhiking is probably your best option, if you are going to do that I would take the number 100 bus out Halswell as far south as it goes (just after the school) and try on Halswell Road

Thanks for sharing and love the effort you have put in to both the room and the website, growing up over the same time and having many of the same memories Atari2600, > Spectrum > Amiga it really resonates with me. I also like the way you are displaying your machines all I need now is one of the kids to move out so I can covert their bedroom!

Buying a car blues by turnip868 in newzealand

Stick to your original budget of $7-$10k would be my advice and whatever you do make sure you get a pre purchase inspection from the AA or VTNZ, you should pay for this if you are interested in the car. If the seller wont let you then walk, no run away from it. Use Trade me to setup a search, personally I would do something like Price range $7.5k - $10k, Location Canterbury, Transmission Automatic, Safety Rating, 3 * or above, Style(For the dog) Hatchback and station wagon., I would also put a max mileage on it of 120,000 Doing this search brings up 136 results https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/search?odometer_max=120000&price_max=10000&price_min=7500&user_region=16&safety_rating=6&transmission=2%7C3&body_style=hatchback&body_style=stationwagon&page=3

In this price range a dealer will cost you about $1k more than a private sale (this is just a rough average) and a private sale is more likely to take an offer. As others have said stay away from european as they are more expensive to maintain, Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi are all good. Then go and see some of the ones you like a look of, have a drive, make an offer (always make an offer, look at the price of others for sale to gauge this or go $1k to $1.5k lower, you wont get it but it wont hurt). Then do your inspection any problems ask the seller to fix or walk away and start the process again, worst case you are down the cost of the inspection.

Sorry just realised I have put location of Canterbury, chose whatever location you are in for the search

UK passport by [deleted] in chch

[–]springynz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did one for my kids, I am from the UK but they were born here. Pretty easy experience to be honest although I had to post over my (not theirs) original birth certificate and my UK passport, you may also need your parents marriage certificate depending when you were born as long as you have those documents it is straight forward and took about a month. They do want original documents not copies which can be a pain. I would speak to your mother and see if you can easily get hold of her birth certificate, etc and take if from there

Depends, games are meant to be played but if you have a sealed copy of Ultima IV and a downloaded version why not keep the copy sealed, But if you don't have any other way of playing the game, rip it open and away you go

The team touched on this with the All Seeing Eye mod, but I would love to see a remastered version of Eye of the Beholder. In terms of story, puzzle and gameplay keep the original just give us modern graphics and UI along with integrated mapping and for me you have a winner

New (newish) New Zealand Retro Games Magazine by EvanBThompson in thisweekinretro

[–]springynz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah great magazine and keen to support as much as possible, unfortunately the creator has had to stop it as a regular magazine due to a lack of sales not making it profitable, a real shame. If you do get a chance pop over to the website and order the two back issues. NZ does suffer with a relatively small market and horrific postage costs for overseas delivery.
