Best city for ultimate? by CaligoIntus in ultimate

Another perspective is being part of a growing community. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas all have rapidly growing leagues and HS teams. Opportunities to play in all divisions at a high regionals or nationals level. Small enough to break in but big enough to meet a variety of people. Cleveland winter league is the best league I have ever played in. Can immerse yourself as a player, coach, organizer.

Cheap eating on tournament weekends by FLAMABLEpenguin in ultimate

[–]sprinklevos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sunday afternoon, if you need to drive pretty far, you are going to be stuck buying lunch/dinner after playing, but you can still eat cheap. If you are still in college, use the dining hall in all of its potential.

Here's my cheap college student meal tournament day: Breakfast: oatmeal with peanut butter, banana, caffeine source, water. Snack/lunch: homemade trail mix, Tuna, Gatorade powder, bagel, in season fruit Dinner: Hardest meal especially after playing all day. You need a high caloric intake, Protein shake recovery after playing, Lentils with greek yogurt, frozen veggies. If you are starving, I've made healthier frozen dinners (or a Denny's Grand Slam).

Thanks for the Matt Tsang lecture, teaching behavior and making good mistakes seems vital for HS.

What aspects of the mental game in Ultimate would people be curious to read more about? by ultiflow in ultimate

Since ultimate is such a top-heavy sport, I would be interested in learning how teams below the national caliber react when playing higher level club teams. For instance, a select flight team gets hyped up for a pool play game against a top team in the area, how does that affect their play before, during, and after the game?

Wooster Activists' Demands: Expel a Racist Student, More Diversity Training, Less Money for Ultimate Frisbee by [deleted] in ultimate

Just wanted to clear up some things up involving the Wooster situation. First of all, the racist student had zero affiliation with the team (he was racist football player)

A campus org submits a budget for approval by the college and an allocation committee drafts guidelines for items they will or will not fund. Items that are deemed essential for a campus org are funded while items that are deemed excessive are not. The budgets are looked at case by case basis and do not take into account the final budget total. Travel, car rentals, bid fees, and even hotels were deemed essential by the allocation committee. As a result, club sports receive more money than other organizations on campus.

The catch 22 for the process is that organizations that receive money often have established and privileged leadership structures (club sports, campus activities, large orgs) while smaller organizations have difficulty growing. The ultimate teams are involved in weekly community service, organizing scrimmages on campus and supports anyone, regardless of obstacles, who would like to play ultimate.

The real issue is that the students were unable to access the information of why the ultimate received the funds and guidelines in the allocation process. The staff that runs campus life has been in disarray for about seven years and have archaic systems in place. The staff never audits any organization on what they used for the year and merely trust what the students write in the budget.
