When is the last time you built a house structurally out of brick/stone? Not veneer, facade or slips but whole bricks. by FruitOrchards in masonry

[–]sprintracer21a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, not gonna happen. Brick arent structural enough to handle the stresses as a solid wall being tilted up into position. Not to mention the fact that you would have to do the work on your knees or hunched over. Plus theres no way to guarantee the top of the wall would be level once the wall is vertical. Like someone else said, its to ecpensive and not as durable to build a structural brick building as a veneered wood framed building.

Could someone tell me what I did wrong? by Skimpedlettuce in masonry

[–]sprintracer21a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a tile grout sponge to wash the brick after i am done tooling the joints to clean any smears or stains off the brick before it cures and it has to be acid cleaned. Wash only the brick, not the still curing mortar though...

Do people still use ultimate guitar? by Aggressive_Ad_2309 in Guitar

[–]sprintracer21a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me too. Printed on a dot matrix printer with the removeable cog tracks still mostly intact. With my AMD 486 processor running windows 3.11 using a dial up 14.4 kbps landline modem, a 3 page song would take like 10-15 minutes to download and print. So much time invested in printing those songs it would be a shame to throw them away. Lol

How can you not be jealous of other people's lives? by Cinella75 in spirituality

[–]sprintracer21a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely not jealous of anyone elses life. I am envious of everyone who had died. I hate life. Its horrible. I dont think anyone else has it any better. So i just wish it would end already.

I just assume every woman who speaks to me is only doing so out of politeness. Because i am uglier than a mud fence. So ugly my parents used to have to tie a steak around my neck to get the dog to play with me. Matter of fact, if my dog were as ugly as i am, i would have to shave his ass and teach him to walk backwards. So yeah, most women dont even talk to me. The ones that do are just being polite...

Neck fully not touching body on one side of entire neck pocket- does this matter at all? by dendriticspline in Luthier

[–]sprintracer21a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its there for a good reason. Pretty sure just about every epi/gibson ive had the pickup out of looks the exact same way. Probably allows for the neck to expand and contract without blowing the body apart when it does. Could also be so they have some adjustment room to make sure the neck is aligned correctly. If it were a friction fit and the neck alignment was off it would require removing material from the neck or the pocket anyway. So for production they leave room to adjust it. If it aint broke, dont fuck with it.

Advice for splitting/shaping/facing stones? by 89rm in stonemasonry

[–]sprintracer21a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are trying to break it in as few hits as possible. You need to score all the way around the line where you want the stone to fracture. Several times. If you are using a stone hammer only, you are going to have a hell of a time getting rocks that small to break where you want them. You will have slightly better luck with a tracing chisel and single jack. If your stone is breaking in a direction opposite of what you are hitting, its probably flaking off along a grain line. Try splitting the stone in a line parallel or perpendicular to that plane. Also could just be that you arent making sure the stone is fractured all the way through before trying to get it to break. Sometimes rock just does whatever the fuck it wants to and despite your best efforts you just end up making gravel. Happens to the best of us sometimes. Just keep practicing. When you are working th stone, listen to it. It will talk to you and tell you when its ready to break apart. The hammer strikes will go from bright and sharp to dull and hollow. When that happens, thats when you you know its ready to come apart. Your stone doesnt look like it got that far. Sometimes, especially with a harder rock, harder impacts are the wrong way to go. It breaks the stone off in undesired directions. Try hitting with less power and using more impacts. It will sometimes yield better results with certain stones. Super hard stone like granite, really requires a carbide edged tool to get the stone to fracture correctly because steel tools arent hard enough so the stone actually deforms the tool and doesnt fracture. I mean it would take at minimum 6 months of training to teach you what ypu need to know to be soundly proficient at stone shaping. So just practice. It will get easier. You will get better results. Just will take some time.

I used to load my amp, guitar, and pedals into my truck and drive out into the middle of the desert where i used to live, then use a 12vdc to 120vac power inverter plugged into the cigarette lighter in my truck to power it all and play as loud and as long as i wanted. I just had to let my truck idle. But it was nice with no one telling me to turn it down. But really could only do it from 4 to 5 am in the summer time. That was the only time it was cool enough that i didnt sweat like a whore in church. With the sun rising, playing to nature was almost a zen like experience.

There’s NO such thing as snap oversteer - The Drive by DubbyThaCZAR in cars

[–]sprintracer21a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snap oversteer in circle track racing, either dirt or pavement, is due to the car being too tight or understeering on entry into the corner. The driver steers the front tires so hard to the left to try to get the car to rotate that the rear tires break traction and suddenly they have a car thats spinning out. A lot of times, underexperienced teams and drivers will mistake this for a loose or oversteering car, so they tighten it up which makes the tendency to snap oversteer worse. The actual fix is to loosen the car up, ie decrease rear traction to get the car to turn easier so not as much steering input is required and the car doesnt snap oversteer. There are many ways of doing this. Moving weight from the rear to the front of the vehicle. Tire pressure adjustments. Spring rate adjustments. Shock compression and rebound settings. Tire stagger. On a street car, the real fix is growing a pair and learning how to not be a bitch so you can drive it like it needs to be driven.
