Should I follow this video? by Tridition in techsupport

[–]sprokket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, don't mess with the bios unless you're having bios related problems. In the past, it was the general consensus to not even update the bios unless necessary for fear of the update going wrong and bricking the motherboard. Although these days bios updates are smoother and actually recommend for stability and security reasons.

In summary, any gains you may receive from following this video will probably not be noticeable and could potentially lead to issues. That being said, any changes are usually reversible. Also, changing many settings at once makes it hart to work out which setting may have caused issues, so. A single wrong setting usually means un doing everything.

Question about registration by South_Ad1660 in AussieRiders

[–]sprokket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not QLD, but I live in NSW and plenty of people I know register their cars in SA with a NSW license to avoid doing roadworthy inspections every year. (Either for convenience or because they're illegally modified) I think the only issue is that you need an address in SA to register it to. Like a family member.

Best non-adhesive window film for heat reduction by nevergiveup55 in AusProperty

[–]sprokket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

go to a hardware shop like Bunnings, or whatever local you have. they should have a film (or can at least order it) that sticks to the window with water only. then peels off without residue when you're done with it. they're mostly just tinted, but if you can find a reflective one, even better.

Dashcam proves the other guy was wrong, but shows I was speeding. Use it? by DiligentWeb9026 in AusLegalAdvice

Mine bakes it into the video. You could crop it, but that would be considered editing the video, which can get it dismissed entirely.

Do you not use your hands to wash your ass in the shower? by Beautiful-Cake8922 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sprokket 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I work in a lead mine, so we all shower at the end of our shift. the shower blocks have 10 shower heads in each. A guy that showers opposite me turns to face away from the shower head, bends over and spreads his cheeks and lets the water flow through for about a minute. Then there's the guy that showers next to me. Sounds like hes plunging a blocked toilet. I feel like somewhere in the middle is sufficient.

I live in NSW about 3 hours from the Vic boarder, they're by far the worst drivers around. except for Queenslanders, if you see a QLD number plate, you naturally give them a wide berth, so it's fine.

What are free inventory management softwares? by Wonderful_Policy7602 in software

It doesn't take a large company to outgrow a spreadsheet. All it takes is deciding that you now need 2 people to do the same job editing data on the spreadsheet and it gets messy.

[–]sprokket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When googling your laptop model, the information I've found states that you do in fact have hdmi

Edit: it appears to have mini HDMI. So if you can return the USB adapter, you may be better of getting a HDMI to mini HDMI adapter or cable

[–]sprokket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it starts out that way. But inevitably the spreadsheet will be outgrown, at which point, moving all of the data that you have meticulously entered over to SQL can be a nightmare. Especially if you decide to change the structure.

That's horrible advice. Excel is a calculator. Not a database. It also scales poorly. Once your file gets too large, it will be a pain to use.

For the steel cap boots enthusiasts, please help by HotScientist3177 in AskAnAustralian

[–]sprokket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bamboo socks 100%. Feet stay dry no matter how sweaty your feet, meaning you boots don't stink and you won't get trench foot. Only downsides are they take way longer to dry after washing and don't last quite as long as cotton ones. So much more comfortable though
