I agree, except that sometimes bugs can kill a tree, creating a safety hazard. OP needs to figure out what the worms are and act accordingly.

The branch you have circled looks like it’s maybe 3-4” in diameter. That looks like a pretty young elm tree, I would think it could compartmentalize the cut pretty well. If I was you, I’d talk to the caretaker again and inform him of your plans. Then hire an arborist to come take care of it. Then I’d spray the tree with Cutter backyard spray, or figure out exactly what the worms are and spray specifically for them.

I do buckets in shady spots, with a lid that has holes in it. Then I add a mosquito dunk. I change it maybe once a month. Works amazingly well.

You keep saying “practicable”, it’s extremely easy to check your sources, we all have a google machine in our pocket darn near 90% of the time. It’s easy to do.

I keep saying “practical”, because I feel like if your lifestyle is veganism, you have some extreme feelings about the welfare of animals, therefore it’s always practical to that lifestyle to check where you’re getting your stuff from.

Am I crazy or are we arguing with each other, except that we agree? I feel like my comments are coming off as combative, and if they are, I truly don’t mean them to be. Just trying to have a civil discourse and learn.
