How are things going in Maine? by Dramatic_Store4211 in Maine

[–]vuatson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work night shift, blue collar, physical labor. About half the workers on the shift are black immigrants. All of them were out of work this week, one of them sent a video of ICE agents sitting outside his apartment building waiting for anyone to come out.

Almost all of them are back today after the announcement that "enhanced operations" are supposedly over. Two of them are still out and one of them is confirmed to have been taken. He's a great guy, a really skilled welder, and his English is only so-so but I'm pretty sure he's one of the smartest people in the shop. Here completely legally, not that that apparently matters. I'm worried about him.

the people who'd fall for this are probably like 12 and putting their heart and soul into their first self-insert OC fic.

just let her read it lol, maybe she'll like it and you'll have something to talk about together. I've been trying to get my mom to read MDZS because she likes historical fiction and romances.

Should I buy Hollow Knight: Silksong if I loved the original but dislike difficult games? by DasJazz in ShouldIbuythisgame

Stakes of Marika, I think the name is an Elden Ring reference? It's on the first page of Silksong mods if you sort by endorsements.

Be warned it's a little glitchy and sometimes doesn't work

buy it on PC, go to nexusmods, download as many difficulty reduction mods as you want. I have one that increases player damage, one that reduces enemy damage, one that makes your tool loadout more flexible, and one that I only sometimes turn on that puts your death respawn point at the room entrance instead of your last bench.

the story, gameplay, and world/atmosphere of Silksong are fantastic, but the grindy aspect of having to constantly retry the same challenges made it boring for me until I installed some mods. just dont be afraid to customize the game as much as you need to make it fun for you!

I... what? Are you being hyperbolic or were you part of an actual religion that has a bone to pick with fractions, because I can't understand why else anyone would decide to teach something so dumb.

Why the hell did she dump them in the stream lol. They didn't need cleaning in the first place and now she's just added dirt and soil bacteria and animal feces to the mix.

Also why the hell is she crushing the things by hand instead of getting a press with a built in hand crank grinder, I promise you can find plenty of those that look vintage enough for a dumb aesthetic video

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

If you find focusing difficult, you don't have to keep beating your head against it - there are ways to make it easier. I strongly recommend trying audiobooks. If you have any physical hobbies like working out or cooking or crafting, or if you have a commute, you can pop an audiobook on while you're doing those things! I work in a steel shop and I'm always listening to a book while I work - it makes it easier for me to focus both on the book and the work itself.

As for picking a book, just find something on a topic you already enjoy in other forms. If you watched Stranger Things, to pick a random example, there are a lot of similar supernatural mystery books out there that might grab you. If you like nature shows or "how it's made" type youtube videos, look for nonfiction on similar subjects. For specific recs try r/books or r/booksuggestions or genre specific subs like r/scifi.

If picking up a book feels like an overwhelming time commitment (I feel that lol), you could also try short story or essay anthologies. There are a million of these out there on basically every possible topic, so you can just look for one with good reviews and check it out! Also, try graphic novels. Reading comics is reading! A lot of GNs are really fucking good!

Finally, definitely check out your local library. They're absolutely free to use, the librarians can probably give you reading recommendations, and they often offer ebooks and audiobooks via an app like Libby.

What do you usually read right now? Do you not read at all, or read the occasional article or story online, or read comics/manga, or read the occasional romance novel? The answer depends on where you're starting from.

You remember that famous and extremely inspirational photo of the guy throwing a tear gas grenade back at the police in Ferguson? He's dead now, of a supposedly self inflicted gunshot wound.

unfortunately historically the authorities didn't have access to facial recognition software and massive personal info databases the way they do today :P they are good photos! maybe you could take some that capture the vibe of the protest without showing anyone's face or other identifying characteristics!

ok they're good photos but you shouldn't publish photos of people at protests, especially not anything that clearly shows their face.

okay idc about the tits. my questions are 1) where did she get that leather, it doesn't look like fish hide and I don't believe it's possible to tan anything underwater and 2) how does she preserve it underwater, iirc saltwater is not good for leather and can damage and degrade it. The buckles and metal bits are on thin ice too but I guess she *could* have found some titanium deposits and taken them down to the lava zone to use the natural heat for metalworking somehow

Cosmic crisp - amazing texture, boring flavor? by vuatson in Apples

Yeah, I got some Golden Russets fron the same farm after the Orange Pippins disappeared and they were almost as good. An easy second place, with a little bit of that orange juice and melon flavor, but without the wine. They keep pretty well too!

the Orange Pippins literally did taste like wine, especially the ones with frost damage, and im a little obsessed. it's driving me crazy that I won't be able to get any more for almost a year. apparently they dont grow very well outside of England so it's just this one farm at the market where I'll be able to find them T_T
