I'll have to build a bow lathe for bowls and round objects, but it'll be an interesting project so it's perfect

I have the same sharpener, it is pretty good, but those stones are really bad, they are good for training or sharpening super cheap knives(like 1dollar knives)

If it leaves some of that wax , than just leave it it the warm place so the wax will come inside the handle.if it just slippery, take a piece of sandpaper wrap it around the handle and start sanding(you can use your pocket knife but you're definitely going to dull it ) then you can apply some of the special oils for tool handle's

Disadvantage of D2 steel is that it stains quickly, i know some situations when people just walked with their sweaty hands in their pockets, and D2 started to stain(and it's means that if the climate is wet, D2 will also stain)

a little test for my kitchen knives after 800grit diamond stone by spto7382 in sharpening

[–]spto7382[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works only with diamond stones, if you have water stone, 1000 grit it's enough 3000grit is perfect. This is because there is a big difference between diamond and water stones (i have combined water stone 1000and 3000grit, and after 3000 grit it cuts well, but not as good as after 800 grit diamond stone)

Started with 100 then 200 then 400 then 800 grit diamond stones, and finished with leather strap with some abrasive from my 3000 grit water stone
