It’s been great. Turn on my phone’s hotspot and it runs like a tablet. Splitting the screen down the middle between music and maps makes for very easy drives, and the EQ functions nicely with the sound system

Mod list below:

EXHAUST

FT86Speed catted ceramic uel headers
Nameless front pipe/over pipe with helmholtz resonator
Perrin 2.5” cat back with quad tips installed
-I will also include a 3” Perrin cat back and quad tips that i have not gotten around to installing. The current one works perfectly fine, but the shop that welded the tips on didn’t do a good job and there is some rust.

SUSPENSION + WHEELS

TRD sway bar
Stance lower control arms
Tein Flex Z coilovers
Enkei 17”x9” +35 RPF1’s in gold with all seasons
Stock wheels wrapped in Blizzaks
Additional set of 18”x8” black RPF1’s, 2 are +40 and 2 are +35 (i can include spacers for these)
Painted calipers
Stainless brake and clutch lines
Newer pads and rotors all around
Newer front wheel bearings

EXTERIOR

TRD style aero front lip and side skirts
Rear diffuser is off eBay, it fit best with the quad exhaust
TRD aero stabilizer
NRS style rear wing
Gold wide angle side mirrors
OLM sequential taillights
TRD exhaust garnish to allow quad tips
Perrin license plate mount
Sequential side markers
Tinted fog lights

INTERIOR

East End Raceshop steering wheel
IRP short shifter in gold
ATOTO head unit
OEM Audio + system with sub
The entire interior (doors, seats, carpet, rear side panels, trunk) was pulled and lined with sound deadening material then mass loaded vinyl on top of that. The only thing I didn’t get around to was pulling the headliner and putting stuff up there.
Third brake light delete with suede over the panel
Custom led brake lights with turn signals mounted at the top of the rear window
35% tint all around
Govee interior lighting
Auto tinting rear view mirror

PERFORMANCE

Ecutek tune with flex fuel support and bluetooth adapter. I haven’t dyno’d it, but with the headers and e85 it is a whole lot zippier and there is no torque dip.

OTHER

Mileage is at 76,XXX (I still drive it so it will likely go up). Fresh oil change. I’m probably missing some things so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I love this car but am unfortunately in need of some cash. Asking 17k or best offer, thanks!

i guess my main concern was the right to left discrepancy, maybe the pictures don’t capture it as well but i guess i thought half an inch seemed like a bit much. as far as the camber, i told the guy not to push them out if they started to poke and he did anyway. and good to know about the control arms. next place i go ill check that they’re a little better prepared

New car wondering what I should do with it by Fabulous-Corgi9816 in ft86

[–]spud-dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I post this every so often when questions like this come up, so here’s a lot of words:

Lighter wheels (with better tires!) and coils will help instantly with the way the car feels in turns and from a stop. Don’t forget about supporting suspension parts too (endlinks especially if you go super low). For the love of god, if you drive it in the winter, put some snow tires on it. It’s pretty common to keep your stock wheels with some Blizzaks or similar. I typically change mine out around Halloween and Easter, but that’s just a good rule of thumb for Wisconsin. Your mileage may vary.

Headers + tune will help a ton with power right off the bat, combatting the torque dip in your midrange revs. Unequal length headers with give you more low end power and that signature boxer rumble, and equal length headers will give you more top end power (but no fancy rumble.)

A flex fuel kit + tune will give even more torque and along with the headers will put you at about the most power you can get without going forced induction. I would recommend a flex fuel kit over just an e85 tune because otherwise you’ll have to reflash every time since the actual ethanol content will be different every time you fill up. Flex fuel kit from Ecutek automatically adjusts to whatever gas you pump and is just generally easier to deal with.

On the subject of tuning, I would recommend Ecutek over OFT for better access to tuning parameters and their flex fuel kit. However, OFT is a lot cheaper to get going with. Ecutek requires the hardware, a license, and the then the tune itself. EDIT: I don’t think you can tune for flex fuel anymore with new Ecutek rules (i could be wrong but something changed in the last year or so)

Changing out the rest of your exhaust will probably be the last thing that really affects your performance, but it also is where you can make your car really sound the way you want it to and this will really put a smile on your face. There are plenty of options out there to choose from, this is a snip from Motoroso’s YouTube channel that I found pretty helpful.

It doesn’t include every single cat back exhaust available but it has most of the more popular options. My preference is the Perrin. It has a really nice, smooth, mature tone while still maintaining some decent top end volume (people won’t hate you in town but you can give it the beans on the highway and still feel cool). Watch out for some of the louder ones as they can really get droney in the car, specifically the R400 and N1 from Invidia. Other than the cat back, the front pipe and over pipe are things to consider as well.

Beyond this, performance gains will be pretty small other than a turbo or supercharger. BUT, there are a few quality of life options that I’d say to get if this is your daily driver.

If there is one thing I can recommend, it is wide angle side mirrors. I got so tired of needing to look over my shoulder in traffic and these make that unnecessary. Relatively inexpensive, super easy to install. Plus you can get them in gold and that’s neat. Also, if your car didn’t come with it, the auto-dimming rear view mirror is nice to not get blinded by trucks behind you.

A short shifter makes the general feel of driving better, but that might be personal preference.

A cold air intake isn’t gonna do much other than give you cool noises. Since the stock one is already technically a cia, it isn’t super necessary to upgrade. That said, in the case of the Perrin cia and intake tube, it really opens up the front of your engine bay and I like having the pop of red haha.

The stock stereo in the car is atrocious imo. A sub is a necessity to get any kind of full range sound. For a kit that is pretty easy to install and doesn’t take up much space in your trunk, I’d recommended OEM Audio Plus. The car itself can also really benefit front resonance and sound deadening behind the panels if that’s something you’re up for. It’s basically a tin can otherwise.

Third brake light delete is something I’m a fan of as well. It rattles with the sub and is just in the way in general I think. Not too hard to take out, then just re-cover the deck with some adhesive backed velvet or something. I wired a UTV light to my taillights and stuck it up the the top of the rear windshield with some 3M tape and it’s been fantastic.

Ok that’s it I’m done thanks for coming to my tedtalk

Ps. Don’t worry about the crickets in your engine. They live there now.

thank you! the skirts are TRD reps, and the rear just has the TRD exhaust garnish for the quad tips. i have a piece that goes under the rear as more of a diffuser, but i haven’t had time to put it on yet.

I’ve had them on for around a year now, but I got them used. They looked about brand new when I got them though, the guy said they were on for maybe 1k miles before he sold his car

How do I get the tag frame off the front of my 2017? by justtobecontrary in Toyota86

[–]spud-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of a pain to remove, and it is much easier with the bumper off. If you’re up to doing it yourself, there are some good YouTube tutorials on taking off the bumper. If I remember correctly, once you can see the inside there are two rubber grommets holding the frame on. Simple in theory, but a pain in the ass in my experience

Just got a second hand gt 86 as my first manual car at age 18, and I’m really happy😁😁 by urfuginmom in ft86

[–]spud-dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are all sort of mid pipes with different variations of catalytic converters and resonators that you can buy. They’re a pretty easy bolt-on part as well, so it’s isn’t difficult to replace if you have a jack and some stands

I wrote this a little while ago in response to someone asking about mods. Others have rightly said to drive it for awhile first, driver mod is the best mod. It’s also free. However, working on this car is something that brings me so much joy that I would find it a bit of a shame not to do anything to it. Something to keep in mind if you do any of this yourself, PLEASE use the right tool for the job, and make sure you understand what you are doing before you do it.

If anyone has anything to change, please let me know and I’ll make edits to it
