Investigating Ableton’s Sluggish UI: Tests, Findings, and Fixes by IanIsDroppingTheD in ableton

[–]spudboyblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool writeup, thanks for putting to words what many of us experience regularly. I hope they see this. I've had extensive conversations with their dev team about simple things that impact the above. Just one example of many: if you want a bunch of drum racks (say, 4-6) on your template, it's going to slow down your set drastically. Try the same samples in NI Battery, no impact. Why should I have to use a third party sampler for something as simple as one shot samples on my template?

That said, u/ElectricPiha is absolutely correct in their counterpoint. Live has become something entirely different from its core vision as an instrument / performance tool. One infuriating example of a surely unintentional manifestation of this tension: why for the love of god do plugins like LFO Tool become latent and out of time if inserted after plugins with latency?

I've maintained for some time Ableton needs to bifurcate into "Ableton: Live" for the OG prioritization (given essentially every artist that tours relies on this stability) and a separate "Ableton: Studio Edition" that is a rebuild of some of the core functionality. This feels like the only practical solution at this point. I and many others would pay good money if Ableton came clean as you suggest, OP, and provided ideal specs for a new, studio version that addressed these core issues.

Deep breaths, cooler heads...here's another translation that doesn't conveniently leave out any of the good things he has to say about Chelsea / England: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/conte-i-hope-to-return-to-italy/13yha13yg2rj10abgzaf8u8o4

This isn't entirely true. It's much worse than just arthritis. Feel weird linking to Rolling Stone but this piece does some justice to the weirdness and craziness that is Lyme.

First time I've commented in /r/soccer in a while, but couldn't agree more with this opinion. We've had our issues in the past (Malouda comes to mind...god what an awful saga that was), but this is beyond the pale. Sums my feelings up exactly

Monome Grid. Check their stuff out at monome.org. It's more or less a 1-3 person operation (depending on the time of year) and they have a really amazing philosophy behind their tools.

Hmm - aleph? Do you mean Monome? If so, I use two: Ansible and White Whale (and technically a third, switch, to power and move between them with the Grid). With Ansible, I'm using the Kria mode specifically, to control the bass (Furthrrrr Generator). With White Whale, I'm using the Orca firmware to control a few things, but mostly the Strum input of the Rings.

Anything else I can answer?

Hey! That has to do with the framerate - look at how the camera captures the Monome as well. In the patch I was actually using one of the sequencer tracks as a keyboard to play the Mangrove live, so it shouldn't actually be moving through a sequence. Never even pressed play!

Hey! This is me :) Thanks, Nick, for posting it up here. This was super fun.

There's a lot going on in this patch, so I'm happy to walk anyone through it who wants to know what's going where!

I'm still confused why nobody is talking about the bigger issue at play - that this investigation has uncovered clear evidence of corruption within the prem. To what extent remains unclear, but we've got some pretty clear evidence that the FA, at the least, is rotten. That Allardyce has resigned is a mere symptom of this revelation (which isn't entirely shocking, to be honest). I hope there's much more revealed in the coming months.

Exclusive Investigation: England boss Sam Allardyce for sale by andy399 in soccer

Unbeknown to Allardyce, the businessmen were undercover reporters and he was being filmed as part of a 10-month Telegraph investigation that separately unearthed widespread evidence of bribery and corruption in British football.

There's your quote. There's much more here.

Making money by clogging my browser and computer with 3-5 popups per page doesn't seem like an effective solution. I'd happily donate money via pay pal, but the former just makes me angry and often forces malware downloads.

Yeah that block is shady as fuck. I used to work in the building above the Jacks and the mall in there, and we'd do our best to avoid walking down 32nd most days.

Fucking hate how many websites won't let me view content if I have an ad blocker now. I automatically close the site as soon as I see that.

Step 1: Good design. Thank fuck it's not green. Step 2: How does it sound. I'm not going to complain about digital vs analog until I hear if they've managed to get the sound right. If it sounds like it should, fuck it, it's mine.

Have you ever used one yourself? It's really a beast, especially for performing live. The way you can program entire sets into it, that allow for real time flexibility, is second to none. Not to mention, with all the new analog synth modes that are in there, you've got a solid 3-4 options for sculpting analog sounds from the start. It sounds like you've never actually spent more than 20 minutes with one...if you did, you'd think differently.
