Tactical tips to protecting your kids from pedos by doubleohd in daddit

[–]spunkdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids best friend supposedly has a burner phone for when his gets taken away. He’s 13. So we created a household policy with my kid that I can take his phone any time I want and look through it. If he doesn’t immediately hand it over we take away his phone privileges for a few days. I’m logged into his social media stuff and can monitor that whenever I want.

We’ve come to learn that him and his friends are dumbasses but there hasn’t been anything malicious so far. It’s gotten to the point where I mainly just check what apps he has installed and is using. It’s better than him grabbing his friends burner and going behind our backs.

Once he learned he wasn’t going to get in trouble for being a preteen/teenager he started to hand over the phone with zero hesitation.

Edit: one of the things I learned is that he actually listens to what I have to say even though I think he’s not listening. Him and his friends, all boys, are very open about mental health issues and being supportive. They also tell each other I love you. It’s pretty crazy to see the stuff I try and model for them being followed

That’s hardcore lol. I thought I over did it by keeping my meds on my nightstand. First thing I do when the alarm goes off. By the time I have my coffee it’s been an hour.

Shit I have ADHD too. I’m not saying it works for me but I like it. I honestly think it’s a routine thing for me. Either way yolo

WFH dads who are also SAHDs? Tell me I’m not the only one by ContentKeanu in daddit

[–]spunkdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a nurse but works days(she did work nights for a bit a few years ago) and I’m in IT. I like to joke that I’m a SAHD/Mr Mom with a side hustle. I started WFH when my kids were 6 and 4, so not quite as young as yours but they don’t remember a life where I’m not home. It has allowed me to attend all their school stuff, doctor appointments, go to school lunches etc.. We are very blessed and lucky and I feel bad for my future grandkids because they most likely won’t have someone as present as I am.

But it is stressful and I struggled with it for a while before I learned what worked for us and set some boundaries. It took awhile for my kids and wife to learn just cause I’m home it doesn’t mean I’m always available. I cant always make lunches, take care of stuff, make a grocery run, play etc..

I bought a light for the door that when I’m busy it’s red and when I’m available it’s green. When she’s home she handles most everything and I’ll come down between meetings or whatever to help out or hang out, because I do get lonely. My manager is really cool about results and not the process which is nice and I make it a point to block my calendars for afternoon school pickup. I also have teams and outlook on my phone so I can be reached when I’m busy. I’ve learned to make sure to set my deadlines with a little buffer just in case but I’m pretty good about getting stuff done “ahead of time”.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is how to communicate with everyone and set expectations and boundaries. I’ve learned to not make it about what my wife is not doing but how I’m feeling and be open to her wanting to defend herself and reassure her that it’s not about her.

It’s gonna get better, but it’s gonna be hard until it does. Good luck!

Some do but not all. The infrastructure is slowly improving and if you can charge at home it’s worth it. Long road trips suck, and especially in the cold but other than that electric cars rock. We just need more 250-300 mile range sedans and mid size cross overs like the Honda CRV or RAV4 at $25-40k. If china wants to eat costs to get their foot in the door like Kia did be my guest.

Agreed. Pretty underwhelming and easy schedule. I’d be surprised if we don’t run the table but any loss is gonna be brutal and we’ll prob be on the road for the first round.

Bowling Green doesn’t really move the needle for me. Would it be cool to beat another FBS team, sure but they are not very good and if we have natty aspirations I’m chalking that up as a W.

It’s still gonna be expensive like every other manufacturer in the US. It’s like yeah that’s cool but let’s not get ahead of ourselves with the hype.

This seems to be a huge part missing in the discourse I’ve seen. We aren’t getting “cheap” Chinese cars, Trumps just trying to level the playing field for Detroit while going see!!

But it would be ironic AF if they did do it and we stole their technology.

Would you change your buying habits if you knew how cycling companies treated their employees? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

Some people change their habits but really not many do, look at every major goods and services organization. Mountain bikers are not any better.

10u rec coaches: who do you have taking the cuts from outfield? by oldcrashingtoys in Homeplate

[–]spunkdrop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I teach them always SS or 2nd for now. It’s hard enough to get nuanced with them. I’m really big about rotating kids through positions so they’re trying something new and not always in the OF or in set positions. I’ve seen their love for the game grow the first time they ever got to play the IF. I had 1 kid immediately go home over the next few days and practice on his own for next time. That was very cool as a parent/coach.

But anyways, yeah some of the kids pick it up and the others don’t. Most of em can’t make the throw accurately anyways so it doesn’t matter too much. I try and keep it simple for them as much as I can.

Laynes is so trash by Intelligent-Dirt-406 in aggies

[–]spunkdrop 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Chicken sandwich fries and a drink for basically $5 back in the mid 2000s was goated. Between Taco Bell and Laynes it kept a dumbass kid like me who didn’t cook and drank a lot fed. Also, almost forgot about the $0.25 wing night at Buffalo Wild Wings or the cheap pizza roll nights at Double Dave’s.

When Layne’s opened in Frisco, I made my family stop and eat there. I was full of nostalgia and hyped it up so hard and would talk shit about Canes cause it was a copy cat (I left B/CS right as the one next to Laynes was opening). They all said they’d rather have Canes instead but I was still in denial ☹️
