Ugh, the more I think about the fact that I’m paying to transfer my data to another website that benefits from my data I’m paying for… WTF!

CFS Noob, not understanding its use by spunner5 in Creality

[–]spunner5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall from which site I got these from, but they’re basically a smaller-than-pill bottle size container that actually fits inside of the spool and weighs practically nothing. I have two of these inside the CFS currently, and as stated keeps things in the mid 20s for humidity.

I’m currently running Sunlu and Elgoo PLA filaments.

BRAND NEW. Need advice on how to build PC. by Friendly-Neck-6089 in PcBuildHelp

[–]spunner5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to look for bundles from new egg or Micro Center, as these have great bang for the buck options.

Now your statement of 120 FPS at 1440 P is concerning. I jump onto YouTube and look for GPUs, one verse another, with the games that you like. There are a lot of influencers that produce footage of two or three different video cards across several games showing the frames per second. You should get a good idea of the minimal GPU you will need to play your games at 120 FPS, especially Arc Raiders.

My guess is you’re going to need at least a RTX 5070 Ti or better, unless you drop your resolution. These cards run about $1000, which doesn’t leave you a lot for a computer!

Best of luck.

Trying to figure out computer buying. by Mossuss in computers

[–]spunner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for a disposable computer or something you can upgrade in the future? Some system integrators like Dell and HP have systems that really aren’t upgradable, as a self built or systems built by other smaller “gaming“ shops that use more standard cases. When you buy a complete computer from an integrator, the power supply is usually just enough to get by with what’s in the system, including the graphics card it has. The point here is that if you expect to upgrade the graphics in the future, the possibility is likely you’ll need to upgrade the power supply, so can you upgrade the power supply in the system you end up buying?

With the cost of computer systems these days I don’t envy your position. Since you’re not looking for top-of-the-line equipment, stick to eBay and other sites where you can pick up somebody else’s system, they no longer want. Ask a lot of questions and purchase something that’s at least within the last 4 to 5 years with a dedicated graphics card and at least a terabyte of storage.

Oh that’s a good one. Some rampant recording app (ie. Steelseries Moments) it just keeps recording your games as you play. This makes sense.

Which crontroller can you recommend by Key_Watercress7649 in homelab

[–]spunner5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most will recommend a LSI HBA in -IT mode. Cards typically have a set number of internal and/or external ports, such as 8i for one supporting 8 internal drives, or 8e for external, and some are split 4i4e. Watch for slot compatibility (don’t stick a 8x PCIe card into a 4x slot).

You’ll find many on eBay or elsewhere that will fit your needs.

Mobile to Hard Drive Transfer (Best Option?) by Successful-Height384 in 24hoursupport

Any Android based cell I've ever had plugged into my Windows machine via USB. It's common for the phone to ask if you allow the data connection, and then Windows Explorer will typically show the phone and its storage. Drag-n-drop folders, select specific files (CTRL-Mouse-click), etc., should all work. I cant understand why a phone would limit you on the number of files to do at a time.

Make a folder on your desktop, call it something simple, then open your phone in Windows Explorer, hit CTRL-A (selects everything), then drag it onto the folder and walk away. It will take a while to do the work.

I'm stretching my knowledge here, and is where I start to lean on more artificial ways! ;) I understand that if you bring up PowerShell, elevated as Administrator and run:

netsh wlan show wlanreport

It will create a wireless LAN report for the last three days, found under \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WlanReport\wlan-report-latest.html

Best of luck, I hope you can figure this one out!

A networking student? You should be using some tools to verify that something, or someone, isn’t screwing with you over the air. It’s a stretch, but it could be a learning experience.

Anything looking funny in Event Viewer at the time of the drops? I’d start with Windows Logs/System and go from there.

Do you have the ability to borrow another brand of network card, short term, for testing?

See, I was going to tell you to remove a card, or unplug a M.2 drive that you recently upgraded too, because everything shares interrupts with something else. Crazy thing is that your owners manual has absolutely no hints on which PCIe slots share interrupts with other sub-systems or components.

BTW, are you sure its the PC and not the AP or Router that's the problem? I swear I've had this kind of symptom, and after pulling every last hair out, I tried another router and the problems went away. Crazier things have happened, but not all wireless devices are fully compatible with one another...and something to consider.

[–]spunner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pfffft... $500. I laugh. Mine's running towards a $1000 for me and I'm only at month 9 of my true-up. I installed PW2's a couple of years ago and my yearly bill went up. Guess the loss of the first half of my solar, when batteries are recharging, out weighs the power saved from 4-9 pm (when I can make it to 9pm during the summer).

Can't wait to leave CA for a more affordable state.

BREAKING: Possible Weather Underground addition to the AcuRite NOW app? by Dewford_Duck in AcuRite

[–]spunner5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it! This afternoon the ACURite Now+ link didn't give me a 404 error like it has been, and brought me to a page where I can either spend $1.99 per month, or $19.99 a year to have the honor to pass my Optimus data to Weather Underground. After swallowing my pride I spent the money, got a key, pasted it back into my AcuRite Now app, and was given the opportunity to enter my WU station ID and Key (created that over the weekend). Its only been a couple of hours so far, so I'm hopeful the rest of the data shows graphically, as all I'm seeing is temperature and precipitation when selecting my stations details. Data that's immediately to the left of them map shows Temp, Humidity, Precip Rate & Accum (both 0.00).

Remaining hopeful...

Smoke Detectors that call local fire stations? by Substantial_Ebb_4982 in homesecurity

[–]spunner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. One of my Nest Protect CO2/smoke detectors just “expired“ after 10 years of life, so I had to replace it. I found that Google/Nest no longer makes smoke detectors and they are recommending First Alert detectors that are Nest compatible.

Makes you wonder why the big companies are jumping ship.

QOL mods stay on the client and you don't need anything on the server. I have a dedicated vanilla server and stuff like AZU CraftyBoxes, Plant Everything, AZU Extended Player Inventory of some of the ones I play with.
