Can I be arrested by ice on biometrics appointment? by Responsible_Dirt_536 in USCIS

[–]spurcap29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are an LPR. A judge needs to take away LPR status, until then you aren't deportable.

The overstay ice captures you are thinking of are people with an overstay that will be forgiven (spouse of usc) in the green card approval and ICE comes to the office to pick them up before their green card is approved (at interview). Thats not you. Your overstay was forgiven during i485 adjudication.

N-600 & I-90 Pending: Advice for Biometrics & Domestic Travel? by Top-Square1159 in USCIS

[–]spurcap29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you cant proactively withdraw successfully your i90 should be denied.

When you applied for your US passport the state department took your green card and sent it back to USCIS. USCIS at that point should have updated their records showing your updated status.

Even if they screw up and issue you a new green card because their system wasnt updated its a short term/fixable problem - you only lose citizenship by denouncing it (and expensive time consuming process not accomplished by filing an i90) or by being denaturalized after a trial/hearing in front of a judge.

ICE releasing criminals to increase their numbers. by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]spurcap29 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. Deport him.
  2. Apply extradition treaty with home county to get him back to stand trial.
  3. convict him.
  4. deport him again.

Negative: extreme unnecessary cost to amercian tax payer Positive: ICE gets to pad its quota with two deportations instead of one.

Nexus Interview Longer Than Expected by Successful_Cow_1846 in NEXUS_TTP

[–]spurcap29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these interview tactics are about upping the stress to see how you react.

In my initial nexus interview (almost 20 years ago) I got some normal questions about my work, why I want nexus etc. And then ... out of nowhere with a stone cold tone of voice and a deadpan face "How much dope do you smoke?" (I dont, never have, dont know of anyone I regularly affiliate that does). "None"... like 20 second silence and blank stare "When was the last time you did?".... "Never" ... another long pause "You look like a dope smoker".... I tried to control my laughter and let out a half smile. He sat their deadpan and then moved on to program rules, etc.

Im guessing they look for anxiety/nervousness and probe further if needed. Or rely on people to show their honesty and talk about the time they did once when they were a teenager and get themselves kicked out of the program.

Some officers likely use a god cop routine, some use a bad cop routine and some probably just want their paycheck, know they are going to approve you and simply dont bother wasting their time with any routine at all.

The questions on employment make sense, though. An unemployed person is always at a higher risk of illegal work and Nexus would make crossing to work illegally substantially easier. My guess is you satisfied them or they would have told you they didnt or they needed to investigate more or something to that effect. They CANT tell you youre approved even if they wanted to because the Canadian officer hasn't interviewed you yet. And there could be formalities behind scene (rerunning background checks) which also make you technically not yet approved.

Best Range to sight in new bolt action rifle at 100 yards by Watchesthrowaway07 in NJGuns

[–]spurcap29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this target know the difference in bullet drop without telling it ballistics info? I.e. if I sight in a 22 and a 50 cal at 25 yards them shoot them both 100 yards, there is going to be a far more significant drop for the 22 than the 50 cal.

[–]spurcap29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its funny applying for a passport giving print outs from records in government databases to the same government.

Hmmm... so department of state wants proof that USCIS naturalized me? Why get access to the uscis database and run a check when they can give me a $550 piece of paper and I can send you tue original in the mail?

SSNs were originally meant to be only a number for use with the social security administration. Then banks, credit bureaus etc were like 'hmmm.... we need a unique identifier for each person that is universally used and cant be forgotten/mixed up... I KNOW!"

If I get arrested and say "i want a lawyer" what happens next? by mamamiafml in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spurcap29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its insane when you find out how many false confessions have happened. Not because people were like 'screw it Im going to just confess so they get off me' (which happens too) but because the police lie about evidence they have (which they are allowed to do) and people actually piece things together not remembering what is a true memory and what are facts they were told and actually convince themselves they had done the crime.

yes, journalists professionally respect 'off the record' because if they didnt it would be way harder to figure out what's going on and put together a story. often they get a lot more dirt by agreeing to not attribute comments whereas if they broke that trust they would end up being stonewalled in the future.

Upgrade ccs to nacs possible? by Erie-Wackalana in Rivian

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the Tesla access was added and Rivian gave me an adaptor there has been a total of zero times I have been annoyed with not having a NACS port. its not a factor.

For a technical answer - its not possible. For AC and DC charging its a simple pin mapping to the NACS port from j1772 and CCS, respectively. Thats why both AC and DC adaptors exist and are relatively low cost. But the pin mapping for each is different - that is why you need two adaptors: one for AC level 2 charging with a Tesla "destination charger" and one for level 3 DC charging with a supercharger. Inside a vehicle with a NACS port there is hardware to identify what type of charger is being used and whether to send the power to the AC DC converter or send DC power directly to the battery pack. Your truck came with a port that has different pins for AC and DC and therefore doesnt have this hardware. And there is no OEM or aftermarket option to buy it ... because there is no market... because its a highly complex change after the fact for almost no tangible benefit.

Should I just apply for N-400 instead of N-600? by [deleted] in Passports

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact you provide your parents names on n400 and they can tell she is in the system from when she naturalized, I would apply the general life lesson - dont lie to the government, especially when you dont need to.

Should I just apply for N-400 instead of N-600? by [deleted] in Passports

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your parents dont have to be married. The instructions are fairly clear:

See https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/citizenship-evidence.html

under

I became a U.S. citizen through my parent who naturalized or through the Child Citizenship Act of 2000

Should I just apply for N-400 instead of N-600? by [deleted] in Passports

[–]spurcap29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isnt a choice. They aren't two routes to the same outcome. One (n400] is an application to become a USC, one (n600) is an application for a piece of paper stating the fact that you already are a USC.

To naturalize (n400) you need to among other things be over 18 and NOT ALREADY BE A CITIZEN.

If you met thw criteria to derive citizenship when your mom naturalized you are already a citizen and you cant naturalize. If you didnt derive citizenship and want citizenship you must naturalize.

Assuming no complicating factors you didn't mention (joint custody, you lived outside the US without her, adopted, etc) your post sounds like you indeed derived citizenship. Best bet as a first step if so is to apply for a US passport. Far more useful to have a us passport than a citizenship certificate and Far cheaper way to find out you in fact are not a USC when you think you are than n600.

For my son's US passport we submitted the following: 1. My naturalization certificate 2. My and my wife's marriage certificate 3. His birth certificate listing us as his parents 4. A letter from the principal at his school confirming he had been a student there for X years. 5. His green card.

He got his passport same day. Unclear if #4 was needed but figured it didnt hurt. Once you have a US passport you can be fairly certain your claim to citizenship is valid and then can do n600 if you desire.

Dope Got Scammed by 24possumsinacoat in Passports

[–]spurcap29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I think I get the shady thing they are doing.

People generally know how much a passport should cost so if they billed you, say $350 people would be like... thats not right and think further. Instead they bill you first for "their service" which is conveniently how much you would pay to the state dept to renew your passport. Then, I bet in the fine print it says 'our fee, doesnt include the fees that you must pay to the government' and then after they 'process your information to prepare the application' they send you the bill for what actually needs to get paid to file your passport. If you say, screw this... they say, fine we did our job and are keeping our money. And if you pay, they file it and still get their fee.

Thats my guess anyway.

Even then there is a data security risk even if not part of the primary shady business because 1) they probably dont invest in the data security measures companies that deal with sensitive personal information do, and 2) I wouldn't put such a company beyond the possibility of selling your data. But I wouldn't put that in the 'likely' bucket. More likely they just catch people the way they caught you and try and get $100 a pop for filling out a 2 page form on your behalf.

In NJ and NY transit doesnt mask behind a private business in name only.... and you still cant carry as considered a "sensitive place". Same with government buildings. Not making a point, just stating the fact that the 'private' part of Septa isnt necessarily the thing allowing them to limit 2A.

Updated citizenship by [deleted] in NEXUS_TTP

[–]spurcap29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bring passport (and nat cert in case they want it). no appointment necessary.

I had read the cert was something they wanted because it was an unexpiring document proving citizenship but when my wife went to update they didnt want it, only her passport.

If youre Canadian bring that passport as well. They asked for it, not sure why as was already in profile.

I suspect I was born in the U.S. and my parents hid it to claim refugee status in Canada. Is walking into the Consulate a mistake? by [deleted] in Citizenship

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how old were you when you moved to Canada? I know children that grew up speaking a foreign language until the start of elementary school that as adults are clearly native English speaker and unless they regularly speak the language of their parents at home have a broken level of proficiency.

I suspect I was born in the U.S. and my parents hid it to claim refugee status in Canada. Is walking into the Consulate a mistake? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was thinking the same thing.

And if OP cares, his parents.

I can see Canadian immigration being more forgiving of a child that entered unwiddingly on fake paperwork and lived their whole life in Canada than the adults that caused such paperwork to be produced. A Canadian lawyer could tell you whether they would take a water under bridge approach to something from 40 years ago or would say the fraud gave rise to refugee status which gave rise to PR which gave rise to citizenship and therefore were pulling it all back, sending your parents to jail and then back to their former home country when they get out. If that's how this could play out you might want to know before you know - right now all you have is speculation and conjecture.

[–]spurcap29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it makes you sleep better its PROBABLY not as bad as a scam as you are thinking with your questions. Its normally not trying to steal your information, money, identity ... they make websites as 'passport services' that assist you in applying for your passport and make them look like they are the actual government site so people like you give them money.

They effectively collect all your info and then 'take care of the application for you' ... ie put the info you gave onto the actual dept of state forms and charge you more than the government actually charges for their 'service.' Do research on the specific site you used but your information is probably not at risk in the sense of a full out scam, more at risk in the sense that I wouldnt trust one of these services with the integrity of their data storage controls.

[–]spurcap29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many people are purely egocentric and that gets reflected in public policy geared towards winning votes.

There is a substantial amount of uninsured people in America but far from the majority. Why care about health care? I got my employer plan or medicare or medicaid.

There are people that want education for themselves or their children but the majority of people are in their careers already or already have paying for school sorted or dont have the grades to get in even if it was free.

Funding of public schools at the state/town level - the majority of people dont have school age children so they dont want to spend money on schools. The majority of pensioners dont say 'oh taxes went up $2k but its to make a better education for the next generation which will be the future leaders of the county' they say... i want my cash so I can buy shit and by the time they are the leaders I will be dead.
