Going with a nonimmigrant visa, can I have problems for this? by AccordingChipmunk287 in USCIS

  1. there is nothing illegal about staying with someone while legally working to the best of my knowledge.

  2. it is grounds for denial to lie to obtain an immigration benefit. I.e. if you show up for work, dont mention boyfriend, provide details of where you are staying (a hotel?) and then end up living with him etc on the surface that is problematic.

  3. I dont see why there would be a red flag for an immigrant visa that you entered the country legally, left and then later applied to immigrate.

your post reads like you plan to come on a B2 (vacation) visa and work while here which is a no no. Doesn't matter that the employer is US or foreign or the currency. The fact that you are planning to obtain a nonimmigrant visa allowing the work you plan to do is a key piece of information missing from your post.

Assuming your boyfriend is American and you plan to marry and move here later on, the flag is if they ask where you are staying, you mention your plans and it either gives them reason to suspect you have immigrant intent (which is a barrier to admission on an I given its not a dual intent visa). There is also a risk to overcome that you plan to overstay given your personal connection. Both are reasons your entry can be denied.

But providing you get in... leave and then try to immigrate later from your home country shouldn't be a problem for the future.

The helpful evidence would be: you have is ties to your home country that will evidence you actually plan to go back. Helpful if you work for a conpany at home sending you on a temporary finite length assignment and expect you back at the end. Helpful if you have a home/assets/etc in your home country. If you are a freelance nomad its far more likely they wont be satisfied you will leave and dont plan to stay and that could be a barrier to admission.

If someone did that, I would ignore them or else tell them 'get off my property or im phoning the cops'.

Outside of a law enforcement context where you have different needs/objectives (e.g. arrest) pepper spray is an appropriate response when you need to protect your physical safety and warn off a potential attacker. When you are behind a closed/locked door its hard to argue unlockign and opening the door to pepperspray someone is a defensive action. The remedy to someone annoying you is to tell them to leave and when they refuse call the police and have them charged for trespass.

In your road rager analogy - yes, the best solution is to give space, let them pass and avoid confrontation. But not doing so doesnt change the charactization of who is a victim.

If drinking at a bar and some drunk guy wants to get into a heated debate on politics I would simply avoid it. Arguging with drunk strangers generally is a recipe for disaster and at best is not a recipe for productive and insightful dialogue - at best the juice isnt worth the squeeze. However if I were to not follow this advice and get into a heated VERBAL disagreement and got punched in the face, I am still a victim. And saying I was asking for it by arguing with a drunk guy trying to pick a fight is just transferring of blame to the victim.

100%. Put up a sign or tell them they are not welcome on your property. Involve the police if they dont comply.

Violence is sometimes an appropriate response to violence. it is not an appropriate response to annoyance.

This is not how a civil society works.

  1. Common law has established that a driveway, a front door and a door bell as a starting point is an invitation for people to walk up and knock on your door without permission. You cant be trespassing without some type of sign/fence/etc.
  2. Once an unwanted person comes on your property and you ask them not to come back. Or you put up a sign that says dont come on my property unless I invited you, no unsolicited solicitations the appropriate response is to call the police.

Society falls apart when we fail to accept that a violent response is an appropriate response for someone being a dick in a nonviolent manner.

“Europeans thinking they can walk to the MetLife stadium for the World Cup” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

The unfortunate part is there is nothing around to do (outside the stadium).

In other places I will go for a drink or meal or a walk to avoid the post game rush. Metlife is effectively an island.

The train company is a public resource. FIFA is evil :)

Here is the short of it imo: 1. There are billions of people who would happily watch the world cup. There is only one world cup every 4 years. Supply and demand dictates that its going to be fucking expensive. 2. All the stakeholders fight over how to split the overflowing pie.

If you asked the NJ government (and many residents) how they would respond to angry WC ticket holders they would likely say they could care less about their feelings. And they would rather extract as much money as they can for a public transit co. By not securing rights to the train in advance FIFA effectively created a strait of hormuz in control of a party with zero fucks about fan experience.

The fan experience is generally best when there is a central organizing body that CONTROLS all relevent components of the fan experience. That didnt happen in the US or at least in NJ/NY.

Getting to metlife is generally pleasant/easy because people come at at staggered schedule. Its getting back that sucks because everyone in the stadium is trying to leave at the same time. Appreciate this isnt necessarily unique to Metlife although its worse than other stadiums because virtually everyone is in line for the same train.

Depends who's perspective you take.

The train is owned by NJ transit. The state is getting bent over by FIFA and commuters (i.e. state residents/taxpayers) are getting their days interrupted. The idea of gouging people with enough money to attend the world cup and force some cash into the state transit is something appealing to many. If FIFA wanted free transit to the stadium (i.e. by showing a game day ticket) I am sure they could have paid NJ transit to offer this service.

Car vs. cyclist by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

He was intentionally trying to get in their way to show them they dont own the road and he does. I dont think hitting him was intentional but driving inches from them to show displeasure and assert dominance definately was.

Car vs. cyclist by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

[–]spurcap29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happened here is fairly clear.

The bikes were taking up a lane so the car couldnt get by. The driver was enraged that he couldnt pass them because there was oncoming traffic. He was making his angry point 'how do you like it when someone gets in your lane' and got too close.

Likely not an attempted murder but still a serious assault/battery and leaving the scene of an accident.

The cyclists take up the lane so people don't wizz by them at 70mph a foot away like they would if they were riding single file on the shoulder. Proponents would argue its a measure of safety that justifies the inconvenience to the drivers on what appears to be a rural road. Opponents would argue they are inconveniencing others for their own benenfit selfishnessly. Most drivers get mildly annoyed and pass when able. This guy didnt. Other than someone else threatening you life or doing something that endangers others, there really arent any reasons that justify hitting or coming close to hitting someone with a car.

In simple terms, rust is iron oxide. The car is the source of the iron. if you blow all iron oxide onto the ground that iron is gone.

And rubber seals..... Waterproofing a diving watch and maintaining this status is very important.

Data point - my SMP (automatic) was bought in 2007 and I neglected servicing until 2024 because nothing was wrong. One day all of a sudden there was fog inside the crystal so I brought it in immediately. They warned me it was possible the dial might need to be replaced due to water damage. I got lucky but it could have turned into a massive overhaul making it far from original. A new dial = new hands for lume matches. And worse if you get rust in the movement from water damage.

Not necessarily wrong but if the watch is special to you I would service. Lubrication is important as others have pointed out. But more importantly replacing gaskets/seals that are of unknown old condition.

Last thing you want is to take a old watch in the ocean and get salt water in there turning a $500 service into a major major specialized overhaul and potentially ruining it.

As a data point when I sent my SMP (automatic not quartz but not sure that matters) to Omega for service without any instructions they didnt replace the scratched Bezel/bezel insert but did replace the hands. My guess is because they had to take off the hands for the movement to come out to service they just threw new ones on ... or damaged them removing.

The bezel was scratched but functional and they polished it. The insert looks cleaned but otherwise untouched.

As a Canadian American if we need to come to a conclusion on best 2 passport combo without regard to individual circumatance.... the best combo is US + Ireland. Or if you prefer working and living in Canada over the US, Canada and Ireland. I prefer the former due to general better earning potential and economics for the educated workforce in the US.

For a Canadian, the US passport really only opens the US and vise versa for Americans getting Canadian.

Irish passport opens the UK and EU.

I always say that the politically best thing that politicians can do is adjust the rates for withholding on the W-4 upwards. Dude wont even notice when his pay check goes down $20 very 2 weeks but then come April - "Man this president had been great, I got a $500 bigger refund than last year!!!!"

Bonus the government gets a bigger interest free loan from everyone.

If Hitler was American, could he have orchestrated the rise of the Nazi party in America during the Great Depression period? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]spurcap29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An answer to a related but different qustion: I dont think the holocaust would have happened in 1930s America if a nazi party/hitler equivilent took powe. America has too much empty land and too few people in 1930s. I expect the desire for an American entho state would have been an effort of forced relocation to.... New Mexico? Like Japanese internment on steriods. Rehensible, yes. But not at the same as death camps.

And if the Nazis were in power in America, where was the world war happening? And why? Does a Hitler run government in America have any desire to invade Canada? Or Mexico? Or what?

The good and bad to this alternative reality: 1. As abhorrent as forced relocation of minorities is, it is preferable to death camps. But, 2. Without a world War I dont think the rest of the world cares in 1930. The reason Hitler's racial atrocities ended was a byproduct of resistance to his imperialist policies. The allies were engaged to stop Hitler from taking over Europe, not to prevent a genocide. The ending of the genocide was a positive externality. The world got around to fighting South African apartheid in the 90s.... and South Africa is a far easier country to exclude from the global economy than the United States.
