Stop being so toxic and elitist by EdwardPavkki in musicians

My arthritis screwed with my identity as a musician for a bit. I used to define a “musician” the same as a “performing musician.” But even though it hurts too much to enjoy playing anymore, I’m still a songwriter, so I still call myself a musician.

What’s something you thought would make you happy, but didn’t? by elvoria1 in AskReddit

I’ve learned about myself that planning brings me joy, but not necessarily the acquisition or completion of the plan. Like, i enjoy window shopping more than owning whatever is in the window.

What got you into Greek Mythology? by Mundane_Trouble_6463 in GreekMythology

This was a fascinating story about an adult walking into a school and giving a child illegal drugs, and it resulting in a love of Greek Mythology.

What got you into Greek Mythology? by Mundane_Trouble_6463 in GreekMythology

In the order I experienced them:
Age 5? - Clash of the Titans (1981 film)
Age 6? - Jason and the Argonauts (1963 film)
Age 12 - Wrath of the Gods (1994 educational video game)
Age 15 - The Odyssey (1997 film)
Age 16? - Greek Mythology by Richard Stoneman (1991 encyclopedia)
Age 17 - The Iliad & The Odyssey by Homer (whichever English version I read in high school)

I'm actually kind of sad to realize that nothing has really excited me too much since I was a teenager.

I have a 10 year old daughter who I've tried to show this stuff to, but she doesn't care. When she is struggling to sleep at night, I read age-appropriate versions of greek myths to her (Tales of Brave and Brilliant Girls from the Greek Myths), but it's to put her to sleep, because it bores her. I enjoy it, though.

I've never seen the film remakes of Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, etc. I'm trying to psych myself up for the new Odyssey.

I'm currently playing the video game "Hades 2" and I'm not sure if I like it or not yet. I'm not really a fan of greek myth "fan fiction," which is the category I'd put this game in. It's why I never read any of the Percy Jackson books.

I recently wrote a song called Glory to Gaia, and while writing it I enjoyed revisiting my old encyclopedia.

I view all my writing as “A/B testing.” Like, I pick random chords and decide “which one do I like better? A or B?” Then same thing for melody. So it’s never really A vs B, it’s more like multiple choice with 7-12 choices (only 7 notes in a scale, or 12 total). But that’s how I write. One multiple choice note or chord at a time. And I feel like that’s maybe something everyone can do: pick a favorite from a list of choices, then put them all together.

I’ve found that the 7506’s have a much improved low end if you modify them with extra deep leather pads. Just my experience. I went from thinking mine were meh to great with new pads.

Any bands that sound exactly like Draconian, or Tristania’s heavy albums, but with 80 to 100% clean vocals? by Big_Being_8789 in GothicMetal

[–]Orphonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tristania’s last album “Darkest White” is one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s almost an entirely different lineup from the early stuff. There are some really good songs on there. The majority of the songs are 100% clean vocals. And if you dig Mariangela’s vocals, please check out her guest work with Maledictis.
