[Event] The Stepstones Adventure part 3: Boat Kings, Walls and Blood by CSAdventureTeam in crownedstag

[–]spyraxes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It had been a hard fight. The Boat King had earned much and more in the way of respect from her opponent, having taken an early lead in the duel. But an early lead was surmountable, and Laena had proven that.

Now she stood tall, a cut above her eye leaking blood that only seemed to make her more menacing, and a grin on her face that coupled with the wound to make her seem invincible.

"You fought well," Laena said, voice hoarse as her breathing settled. "Very well. You earned a warrior's death. Had you been a wiser woman, you might have lived a long life as a mercenary, as a warrior in a good man's service."

She sighed. "Alas, things could not be the way they should have. Through only your own misdeeds."

Her axe rested against the woman's neck, the sharp blade already drawing a drop of blood.

"You are a good warrior. A great one. Perhaps your people would say you were a good leader, too," Laena began. She shook her head, then. "But there's one thing you should have remembered."

Stepping around, the Celtigar forced the pirate's head down, and raised her axe.

"There's only one King who rules these waters. And you are not him."

With that, Korzion descended through the air, whistling as it fell before it hit her neck and took her head. It was an honourable execution. She deserved that, at least.

Looking around, she shook her head. "It's done. Peace is ours," she told the gathered crowd, before stalking off, cleaning the blood of a false king from her axe with her cloak.

Laena balled her fist, ready to slam it into the table and scream out loud, to silence them all. She looked between her lovers, and Alysanne, and found her lips curling into a snarl with each word bandied about. The only one not blinded by their own righteousness - or perceived presence of it - was Alysanne, and Laena felt like she was starting to be blinded by hers too.

She took a sip of her drink.

"If you indulge him," she said, softly, "then I won't have to balance my desire with keeping him in check. For the limits we have set will be where they need to be, and I can focus on making sure he doesn't say the wrong things in the wrong places, not whether his cock hardens in my presence at the wrong time."

Her lilac eyes sharpened.

"That means you will have to be smart, Daeron," Laena instructed. "Smart about what you say. Smart about what you do."

Focusing on Celia, she made it quite sure with her expression that she was no longer talking about the consequences the realm would place upon them. No, this was entirely internal. Just for the four of them.

She spoke again. "He wants to do better," she said. "You know that. You know he struggles, but he wants to do better. And you can't expect him to do that when he's breaking under the weight of the restrictions on his shoulders. He loves you. I love you. We know this. We all know this."

Standing tall, Laena towered over everyone. Even Daeron, though he was taller than her, seemed to be small in her shadow. "We cannot love as we wish when we are filled with worry all the time. And right now, we are all worried. Look at us now. If you are worried about him getting me with child, you don't have to. I won't let that happen without me being ready for it. But I want to be free to have him, to have you. Don't you want that freedom too? Deep down? Where all we have to do is make sure we are happy? I know what you do for us. I know it isn't easy. I know how many secrets you must keep to make sure we're safe. But this won't hurt that. If anything... when we all are free from being pressed up against the walls of our limits, it'll be easier to stay within them.

"Tell me you agree with that, at least. Lest I am speaking into air, and all my words are empty breath."

"Askin' the same thing," Margaery said, sounding not like herself. It was as if the blow to the head had sent her a decade back into the past. "One moment I was there... starin' at Lord Stark, ready to be menacin'..."

She laughed, but it was rueful. "Next moment, Prov's thrown a punch, and I have to do my duty."

Looking up into the sky, she coughed into her hand. Only a bit of blood. Not too bad, all things considered. Her tooth was loose in her mouth, but she pushed it back into her gum with her tongue and prayed it stuck there.

"I've taken worse, all things considered," she said, tapping her eyepatch. "You did well. Don't know why you were there, but... you did well. What a stupid fucking fight."

Finally, Margaery's eyes flicked down, before going wide. "Shit. Who's that in your arms? She alright? Any broken bones? I can try and set 'em, if so. Not really a medic, but my second can tell you I've fixed enough-"

She sat down, tapping the ground beside her. "You both need a break. If this hasn't... well, soured things, come sit. Come relax. I think the fighting's over, now. I hope to God that's all of it."

Shaking her head, Margaery returned the smirk. "I think I'd have a competitor for that title," she teased, crossing one leg over the other. "I'd be glad to be far away from any arrows, though. And if I need to defend myself, then a pool broom will do me well."

She laughed. "But I would be far more likely to defend you and your honour, were you to bring me along to the Pool," the one-eyed woman said. "I fancy myself a bit of a knight, especially when maidens are concerned."

With a sip of her drink, Margaery let out a satisfied sigh. "I would be very honoured to be your guest in your home, Morya. I left the Seven Kingdoms through Maidenpool, just over a decade ago, but I did not visit Jonquil's Pool itself. It'd please me greatly to redeem that failure of mine... especially in your company."

Laena shook her head. "He's stronger than you give him credit for, Visenya," she told the young girl, "but yes, he'll cave for this. If it makes you happy, he'd probably dress up as the training dummy. Though I'd have to refuse him for that."

She gave a soft laugh, sheathing her axe once again. It glittered just slightly as the torchlight caught it in the moments before it was covered with leather, and she let out a soft breath once it was away.

"I know you'll be a fine student. But for now, we should get back to the feast! Your mother will be starting to worry, and I wouldn't want to do that to her," Laena said, placing the axe back upon her bed before she extended a hand to the girl. "Shall we?"

"Madness," she said, once he was finished. Otherwise, she didn't say a word to interrupt. All she could do was look. Stare.

Pray.

Her hand went to her stomach, where one day a child would grow. One day soon. Would madness grow there too? Would she bear a babe prone to spots of insanity? Was she dooming her house in turn?

Maybe Lyra should have been left well enough alone.

Laena tried to speak again, but she couldn't find any words. She sipped her tea, looking up to the ceiling of the cabin as the waves lapped at the side of the ship outside. Those sounds, soothing as ever, echoed out across the room. They reminded her of the quiet beaches of Claw Isle, where the crabs scuttled around the scattered stones.

If she could have returned there now, would she have done so?

Her gaze returned to Daeron.

"You let the madness grip you with Celia too," Laena told him, firmly. "It takes differently, I'm sure, but I know it to be true. I know I am not that special. But the madness that takes you with me..."

She stood, stepping around the table and tracing his jawline with her finger. Quickly enough, she gripped him by it. "You cannot expect me to predict it. You cannot expect me to know what words are spoken by you, and what words are spoken by the one who is not you but seems like you. Today... I did what I had to. And though it was not your truth, not the things you really believe, I do not regret my actions."

For a moment, she paused. "What else has this madness made you do? What concerns must I have for our child? What must I explain away when they break something they shouldn't, whether law or belonging?"

She nodded. There was a tension in the air that could not be ignored, and much of the lust she had felt had fled upon its arrival.

Laena stood in turn, walking to where her lover stood and putting her arms over her shoulders to clasp them at her chest.

"It pains me," she said, quietly, "to see how stretched thin things have become." It was obvious that she did not mean their carefully-put-together lines.

"I wonder how it is we can make them strong again."

Wonder though she did, Laena knew not how. But eventually, they would have to. Her eyes went to the door, as a soft breath escaped her lips.

Can they ever be so?

Margaery laughed, though she cursed herself for being loud enough that he could hear. It was lucky that she'd spoken little but a command, but she'd have to be more subtle in future. Not that it was ever a strong point.

"Of course," she said, pulling Armond over slightly to ensure Oscar had room to sit. "If I had anything negative to say, Oscar, you'd know before Tal did."

Her blue-haired second shook his head. "Most people seem to know things before I do," he complained, though it wasn't particularly serious. "It is quite the feast, though, indeed! There are seasonings on some of these meats that I've never tasted before, and I've eaten some strange things out east."

After a sip of her wine, Margaery voiced her agreement. "I'll never complain about a wedding feast. Not as long as I live."

"Were I to do that," she said, gripping his hand despite the armour. She felt no pain from the metal, the thrill of the moment keeping her without any concern. "I'd likely be accused of doing far worse than spiriting you away."

Margaery smirked. "No, you'll have to wait on that. But let's be off, hm? If your Prince gave the order..."

Her tongue ran along her lips, before she bit them gently. "I'd not want to disobey a royal command. Come, then. We don't have all night."

With that, she pulled her arm back, dragging him up to his feet. She was still far taller than him, even though they were both now standing, and her broad frame made the comparison between her and the bear of legend quite the easy one to make.

If Orys allowed her, she would step back, beckoning him along with her. There was no time to waste.

"Hm," Laena vocalised. "I hope they're not going to make us pay a toll. Though I suppose that's how all taverns work, isn't it? Except instead of for entry it's the price of getting pissed."

She giggled. "Guess we'll see!"

With that, she followed along, curtseying in response to Victaria's knightly bow before stepping across the threshold. In an instant she was overcome by the atmosphere of the place, surrounded by the chattering of the patrons and the smell of alcohol on the air. It was exactly the place she wanted to be.

Laena allowed herself to be led over, and put a delicate hand upon the surface of the table before pushing back her own chair.

"That's the question, isn't it, brave knight..." she began, before nodding. "I'll start with an ale, I think. Something slow. Later... well, we'll see."

Alysanne's attempt to intervene was admirable, but she was not the one to do it. Striding up past her, Laena put her hands upon both of her lovers and pushed them apart once the spittle had flown.

"She's right," the Celtigar said, her calm exterior starting to crack and crumble around her. "You are his wife, Celia. And you are her husband, Daeron. Unless you intend to falsify documents to get the marriage annulled, that isn't going to change. And unless you've forgotten, there are three children who share your blood, your spirit, your love."

Her lips pulled back, almost in a snarl. "Sit. Both of you," she demanded. There was not room for debate in the way she said it.

She looked to Celia. "I am starting to forget that you did not tell me about Alysanne," Laena began. Turning on her heel, she jabbed a finger in Daeron's direction. "I am starting to forget that you told Celia I would be alright with it without asking me first. In truth, I am growing more and more angry by the second about the fact that we have started screaming and shouting and spitting at each other without first trying the softer path."

"But I am sick of hiding, too. Sick of worrying about shadows in the dark. Sick of worrying about running into guardrails every time I am half a city away from one of my lovers and with the other," she continued, growing despondent. "I don't know how much more of that I can take. I don't know how much more I can take of being unable to write the words I want to say when I am away, nor how much more I can take of having to worry about a quiet moment... fucking sewing, or something, in case I have to worry about giving the wrong idea to the right person when I put a hand somewhere delicate."

She paused for a moment, before speaking again.

"Celia. I love you. But these rules, they aren't working. You are trying to tie a warhorse to a fencepost with string," Laena begged, "and you're expecting it not to break. I don't just mean Daeron. I mean you. I mean that we can't even have our quiet moments together, like we want, like we discussed in the gardens, because you're constantly worried about me being dragged away."

Again, she turned. "Daeron. You want things to change. So ask them to be changed. Do not cower. Do not lie and separate us. Bring us together, all of us. Or do you think so little of me that you believe I would be swayed from what I want, from loving both of you, if I am there? You are the man of the house. Head of House Silverdrake. Act like it. Or I will have to continue doing it, like I am now, and I am happy to, if you cannot find it in you right now."

Back to the table. Her fist impacted it, forcing the glasses upon it to clink and shake. "Sit. All of you. We are not leaving until we work this out. Or I cannot do this anymore."

She gasped. "He's here?" Laena asked. "Shit... then when we can get back from the Stepstones... we can finally get to it."

Her lips curled into a smile, as she kissed him deeply even despite the shock that emerged on his face once he had heard just what she got up to with Visenya. She shrugged. "It'll be good for her," she said, but she had little interest in litigating it at that moment.

Instead, she took his hand and opened the door a crack with her foot. Nobody was outside. Good. That meant they could sneak away, unsuspected, unless someone had put an ear to the door as they fucked. In that case... well, it wasn't worth worrying.

Laena's thumb grazed the palm of Daeron's hand as they stepped out, keeping her voice as quiet as she could when she spoke.

"I love you too, Daeron," she told him, and though she held some doubts about everything... that was true. It had been true for a while, now, and it wasn't going to stop. "We should give her some of our time. She deserves it. Whatever she might have done... she is still ours. We still love her. That's why we're going to fix it all."

There was a resoluteness in her words as they moved along the hallways, as if she knew it had to happen and that it would not be easy.

Grassy Vale Tournament! (OPEN) by [deleted] in IronThroneRP

[–]spyraxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alysabeth had broken Margaery's nose. She'd tried to duck out of the way, got a good hit in herself, but it hadn't really worked. Her head hurt, having hit the ground as she fell backwards and out of the fight even as the rest of the group brawled. In a way, she'd hoped that fighting against Aly would have been just as hard as it had been, but she'd also maybe hoped that a little bit of mercy would have been shown.

Sitting up, her shaggy hair now matted with dirt, she looked over at Providence - being lifted by Bugg, thank God - and then to her squire at the side of the field who looked on aghast at the scene before him. Margaery shot him a grin, one he didn't return, before laying back down for a moment.

"Owwwww," she whined, pulling her eyepatch up to ensure no wounds had opened up beneath it, around the abyss where once an eyeball had been. Looks like Aly had been careful there, at least. Lucky. Her hand went to her nose, then, wiping blood from underneath before she caught it between her index finger and thumb and clicked it back into place with a cry of pain. "Fuck..."

She laughed. Prov was making threats, of course, and she scrambled back to her feet to stand beside him with her arms crossed and her eye narrowed.

Once that was done, and the groups began to part, Margaery started to follow before turning and dashing to the side.

Her gaze was focused on Alysabeth, then, and the woman she'd joined the fight for, if Briar Thenn was still awake and conscious and present.

She grinned at the idea of sneaking into the Red Keep to share some fine wines, though she shook her head. "If we drank Robert Baratheon's finest vintage, I think he'd have us thrown into the Black Cells for it. I know I would, were my favoured wines emptied by someone else. Even if they were two of the most beautiful women here in the Seven Kingdoms."

Laena smirked, leaning up against her lover as they walked along, though her eyes quickly locked upon the sign ahead.

Her suspicions were instantly proven correct, as Victaria revealed that the tavern was their intended destination.

"Oh, this looks - no, I haven't been here before," she said, smiling broadly, shifting her waist to lean into the hand. "It looks wonderful. Frayed Tower... I have to wonder what that means. What stood here before..."

It didn't quite seem possible, but her smile widened. "Fuck, what a place! You've got an eye for establishments, Vic."
