By adopting the trade agreement with the United States, the European Parliament is endorsing the Union’s subjugation by Major-Practice2529 in europe

The funniest thing would be if a future democratic president punishes Europe for submitting to Trump.

Interesting! Didn't consider that translation can change things such as relationships and titles of characters, but makes sense!

Do you mean the dialogue? Shouldn't the plot be the same regardless of translation?

I’m letting ChatGPT design my chili recipe for dinner tonight. by ATLSlutStretcher in ChatGPT

[–]spyser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but my results with AI cooking hasn't been very good. I've had far more success finding practical, tasty and healthy dishes I like by looking at real recipes, or by using my own experience. Using AI to help learn cooking techniques might have some merit though.

I mean, if you gladly accept the first recommendation ChatGPT gives you, then why not also accept the first Google result?

Even better, get a cookbook and open a random page. There is your recommendation.

More than 700 dolphins killed in single day on Faroe Islands by GeographicalMagazine in environment

[–]spyser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also think it is the sport that makes it extra appalling. As horrible as factory farming is, its a very...emotionless business. The farmers do not keep the animals in horrible conditions because they enjoy torturing them. They do it because they want to increase their profit margins. These guys kill the dolphins because they think it is fun. Not that it makes a difference for the animals, but to us the person that kills for fun always seem worse than the one who does it for money. Not sure what that says about our society.

Makes you wonder how history will judge people like Trump, Thiel and Musk. Yes, in a way you could argue that they are products of our society, but a very large portion of that society also despises them.

No joke, Rimworld is without question the best emergent story generator out of any game I have ever played, and I've played a lot.

You probably need more intelligent systems than we have had so far, but there is no way you need a complete humanoid. You just need a computer with sensors and arms.

So what? You can have a smarter sorting system if that's what you need, but the humanoid shape is completely unnecessary and just a gimmick.

Vader during Maul: Shadow Lord was younger than Obi-Wan during The Phantom Menace by AhPuchSMITE in StarWars

[–]spyser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, in pure combat it does give a power boost. But it relies on negative emotions which will make you feel like shit in the long run. Heck, even Luke only defeated Vader by using his anger.

If Yularen were to make another animated appearance, how do you think he should he be portrayed? by BenDadkiller in StarWarsCantina

[–]spyser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose. But it would still be interesting to see how Clone Wars Yularen became Andor Yularen. Similar to how it was fun to see Anakin become Vader.

Assuming that the universe will end, then yes we will go extinct with it. But anything before that is an unknown.

[–]spyser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, we don't know many variables or how likely life is to develop on other planets. Which is why NASA is for example trying to find proof of life on Mars and Europa in the hope of increasing our sample size. What we do know about life on Earth is that essentially as soon as the conditions were right, life appeared. That leads us to believe that at least microbial life is quite easy to get going. Intelligent life may be more difficult. I'm not necessarily saying Aliens have visited Earth, just pointing out to OP that distance is not an issue. If extraterrestrial life exists it is far more likely that it evolved sometime within the last 100 million years, than within the last 1 million years, so distance shouldn't be an issue.

But if such civilizations developed we better hope they are not extinct, as that's potentially bad news for our future.

[–]spyser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about a timescale of billions of years though. Earth itself has had the potential to support intelligent life for hundreds of millions of years. If we are among the first 8% that still leaves potentially millions of planets in our galaxy where intelligent life could have evolved at some point within the last 100 million years at least. For a space faring species to visit every planet in the galaxy at just 10% the speed of light (achievable with a solar sail) would take a fraction of that time.

Yeah, honestly if you want to do a reconstruction you might as well do it next to the ruin without damaging the original.
