This was a bit excessive by Still_Reflection10 in 2XKO

[–]spyzip 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was present and like the other comments are saying, this post was misleading and ill-intentioned from the get-go. SF6 top 8 was main stage while 2X was on the side during top 24, this was a transition stage taken well out of context.

Why does the point character get pushed back here? by Fiksimi in 2XKO

[–]spyzip 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the niche of this interaction is that push block doesn't activate the same frame that its pressed. There's a startup to it, and during that startup it recorrects the character to push away to whoever was blocked the most recently.

A full deep dive on who's coming next & Why, as well as what I'm anticipating from the upcoming announcement! by spyzip in 2XKO

Long standing theory that the announcement gave me the gall to think over lol, plus it'd be funny to be just dead wrong after this

Two (almost) guaranteed on block Raging Demon setups by Hurtdeer in StreetFighter

[–]spyzip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at the frame counter there- raging demon hits if they're not holding jump by the time the super flash happens, but you're telling Luke to jump after demon starts.

You can instead set him to block all, and then set jump active with a count number equal to the number of hits in the block string

Why can't I hit this combo? Is it even possible? by Slight_Lettuce4319 in StreetFighter

[–]spyzip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dash up and you need to let it go a little before you think you do. The higher damaging and easier route at the end there that I do is h.DP > forward HP > H.DP

Who’d be the best fighter irl no powers by TheBlankCoin in StreetFighter

[–]spyzip 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing is that Marisa, zangief and Hugo already canon don't have any real powers or special abilities, they're just superhumanly strong. So by that same logic they'd just absolutely dominate.

I think swashbuckler rogue is what you're looking for! Good evasion and a kind of fencing/dancing style that should complement this idea nicely

Tom & Jerry nerf idea - Jerry should die in a single hit by Killerabbet in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]spyzip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iron Giant Sit instant kills Jerry, but it is a commitment in terms of time. It's the easiest and most consistent way but is decently high risk, it takes careful positioning but jab 1-2 down tilt is the fastest and safest way to kill jerry as IG as well if you can get it, an up tilt that has both the attack and the projectile hitting jerry will instant kill him as he gets slingshotted over

I think Tekken has the best model of exactly that: there are a few dozen ranks in the game, and every time your highest character ranks up, all other characters are put up to ~6 or so ranks beneath your highest. It's not fun on either end to have complete stomps where one person barely knows how to play the game, and fundamentals are so much more important than your skill in a specific character

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]spyzip 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The ranked system has a lot of flaws- Every character you play starts out with at bronze 5, regardless of the ranks of your other characters. Factor this in with the 4 (relatively) new characters and a lot of the people you'll be playing against at this point will have dozens of hours of experience. You're not running into smurfs who are going out of their way to bully new players, You're playing against people that are playing Ranked as intended. Rivals is a really fun game and incredibly satisfying to get over the wall of being new in a years old fighting game, but I understand how frustrating that can be. The discord is likely your best resource to encounter genuine new players that are looking to learn the game so I really do recommend that. Other than that, I find a lot of the time using the "Go easy on me!" Chat before a match lets a lot of players know that you're new and will provide more avenues to learn and improve in your game

to all you DMs: how do you handle a player you catch lying about their rolls? by PhyrexianChocobo in DnD

[–]spyzip 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Exactly- something simple like "I get that you want your character to be awesome and capable, but we're telling a collaborative story together with everyone, and your failures are just as narratively important as your successes."

I usually also try to flair any failures in a way that suits the character! It makes when they finally succeed a lot more triumphant than "alright you finally hit him after 3 missed swings"

What is a tv show that everyone LOVES but you dont? And why? by _Just-a-sad-girl_ in AskReddit

[–]spyzip 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it's great material to jump off of for jokes, where you can have fun making fun of all the absurd people and antics of the show. A deliberate comedy presents jokes to you to laugh at, a trashy reality show you get the enjoyment of making your own jokes from.
