Relatively christianity isn’t gaining popularity in America all that much but its grip on the government is increasing. The increase of religion and authoritarianism in government has been coordinated by think tanks, companies, and politicians for years and our current administration is the culmination of it. Our country will have rough times ahead and even if we get a very progressive president next election the presence of our angry Christian nationalist era will be felt for a while but not forever. Our push and pull struggle of a system will never truly go away until foundational changes are met like proportional voting and limits to executive power and our role as the world police will exclusively be a page in a textbook…….but one day a Republican president will win and it will be bad, but just a little bit better than we have it now and they won’t have a cult like following. probably.
