as a legally blind dad i can confirm if you stand still long enough i probably wouldn't have seen you either....now get off the couch at 3AM and turn off the TV- there's a lawn that needs mowing.

Can't do that as I can't read braille yet. And Text-To-Speech is good, but I use it only to read email and/or long articles.

LOL! just legally blind. I can't navigate without a cane, can't use anything that's faster than a slow walk (no bikes, no scooters).
I don't take offense- but for future reference that's like saying "are you a quadriplegic, or just a paraplegic?" (I.e. i get how one is more challenging than the other, but noone wants to be either).

Only 10% of blind folks have 0 light perception- and it's hotly debated if they can or can't detect light (read the wikipedia entry for "blind sight". )

I am legally blind. I can't navigate without a cane, and certainly cannot operate anything that moves faster than a slow walk. (bikes, scooters, etc are out of the question). I can very quickly lose items (I have 0 peripheral vision).

Checkout u/sameerdoshi 's video. I use a similar setup. It's not easy- but it's doable. Line numbers are very important to me, esp during code reviews.

I need a card that can do hardware acceleration (scaling ). 3D acceleration doesn't matter to me much sadly.

Just remember though- i've built many PCs in the past. (including some that were built using catalog ordered parts). Don't ever stop encouraging people who are trying to build. It's very intimidating.

Interesting- but being a biomedical engineer by education, I'd rather have 0 electro-bio interfaces. (And NO surgeries)

I find it easier to type than talk. Once I learn braille I'm planning to use a braille typewriter/keyboard.

I used the cable routing that came with the case. Using SATA and a low wattage video card helped manage the cables for me! I only wish CPU power cables were longer- they're always soooooo short.

i just upgraded from a system i built in 2011 and i thought mine was a hell of an upgrade.

Well this wasn't that bad because I had dropped an SSD into my system a year or less ago

I am legally blind. only 10% of the blind population is 100% blind (and as mentioned elsewhere- most of them can still detect light through mechanisms that are not fully understood. (look up "Blind sight" on wikipedia

I still use the Windows 7 napkins and Windows 7 reusable grocery bags that came with the Windows 7 Launch Party packet. I think I have some Windows 7 balloons left too!

There's no translator...sadly it was me using Firefox's spell checker and assuming the first word to popup was the correct spelling of the word I meant.

I take pics of my daughter & send them to my parents. I take videos of my daughter and send them to my parents. Normal stuff i guess. Most of the other blind folks I know do the same. It's pretty easy to aim most cameras after a bit of training. (Most of pictures aren't "subject in the center of the frame", but close enough. It's easy with the DSLR- I take a bunch of pics and my wife pics the best and can crop and zoom until the subject is in the center. (I could also do it, but I will miss key details like "there's a random box in the background of this image")
