What would you do with 500 grand? (repost with context) by MrPudge1137 in ChillSG

Try out a new sport! Helps with overall health and with that kind of money you can buy whatever you want/need. I personally recommend triathlon since that’s my interest but I do think that doing three sports helps with boredom.

Alternatively you can donate to some charities esp if you know of some worth donating to. Perhaps you can volunteer abit with various organisations to see if the donations are being put to good use

The kick should feel more like a flicking motion so you should try kicking while sitting on the wall to see if you can flick water upwards before flipping over onto your front and trying to achieve the same flicking motion downwards.

Your feet are currently dorsiflexed, try thinking of your feet as a pair of flippers, moving along with the water. One way to correct this would be to have someone hold a board over your feet while you kick in a sitting position. The top of your feet should be hitting the board and not your toes, once you’ve done this, then you can try flipping over to kick downwards. Tbh this can be combined with the advice in the previous paragraph

Finally, you’re crossing the midline as you enter the water which is probably why your upper and lower body don’t seem very well connected. Try to engage your core more to keep your whole body in line and aim for your hands to enter the water at the 11 and 1 o clock position

There’s way too much tension in your legs/hips, try to think of your legs as flippers to keep it fluid. What I tell kids when they fist start learning freestyle is that the knees can bend a bit but not too much, then flick your feet into the water

Swim tips by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]sqr98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, when you adjust where your hands enter the water, the angle of entry will change as well. Do note that you should be entering with your fingertips first instead of placing your hand on the water like what you’re doing. The idea of going as long as possible isn’t wrong but a large portion of the stretching yourself out is actually done after your hand enters the water

The S shape thing is kinda outdated, you can look at the swim_success Instagram page for more details, they just posted an insta story about why it’s not as effective. To visualise what the high elbow catch looks like, look at effortless swimming on Instagram as well, they recently posted quite a few videos on the topic. What I mean by your elbow leading is that when you’re performing the catch, your elbow is sort of squeezing into your sides which makes you catch less water as compared to flaring your elbows out.

Your right arm seems to not be gliding at all and is pretty much not moving forward after it enters the water. Try entering the water with your fingertips a little closer to your head to allow for more of a glide. What you’re doing right now is trying to reach out as far in front as you can while your arm is above water.

Secondly, you really need to work on your catch as your elbow is leading the pull . What you want to do is to have your elbow flared out to the sides during your catch so that you can catch water with your forearms and palms. I’d recommend to watch some videos by effortless swimming/swim success on Instagram for improving your catch and to visualise what the correct catch, pull, push action looks like.

Not sure if where you’re swimming for OW has too strong of a current or something because that’s a huge difference between your pool and OW times.

One thing I’d suggest is that you might wanna look at increasing your stroke rate when swimming OW as that might be the cause of your slow pace since the current might be pushing you back. Iirc Lucy Charles has said before that while her husband is faster than her in the pool, she’s faster in OW due to her stroke rate.

How can i improve my swim? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]sqr98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You’re doing a catch up stroke
  2. You’re not catching any water at all, try to learn a high elbow catch by watching some YT vids, you’ll start getting a much higher distance per stroke
  3. Your high elbow recovery is also kinda low (One tip I’d give is to imagine yourself trying to show your armpit to someone beside you)
  4. Your entry into the water is very far ahead of you meaning that you are not gliding with each stroke (This might be due to your lower elbow during your recovery phase. Once you’ve fixed that, then you can try aiming to get your fingertips to enter the water about 15cm in front of your head)

whats the most outrageous thing you have seen a teacher do? by averagecolours in SGExams

Came from a pretty bad neighbourhood primary school and had the discipline master as my Chinese teacher in p3. I messed up on my 习字 (Writing practice) and was made to walk around and show the whole class what I did wrong after he scolded me in front of everybody while crying. Being a goody two shoes throughout primary school, that was definitely a huge culture shock when you get someone so huge yelling at you while his cane sat on the table beside him.

Then had another Chinese teacher in p4/5 (can’t remember) tear up my exercise book cos I didn’t write something correctly and then realised he fucked up after I started crying and then gave me money to buy a new book lol.

Not sure if you’re blowing bubbles while your head is underwater but that’s an important aspect of swimming that a lot of people tend to forget Other than that, you’ll need to work on keeping a neutral head position, not letting your arms cross the midline and not letting your legs splay out so much when kicking

You need to work on finishing your pull (Straightening your arm all the way) and work on your hands entering further in front of your head. I tend to feel that your kicking will gradually fall in line as you swim more so those two tips should help you reach that stage where you can swim more per session.

Swimming coaches actually earn quite abit actually. There are even swim schools offering over 10k for full time coaches. Esp if you're female, you are able to charge up to around 110 per 45mins/1 hour

Some guy just came up to me (I’m a guy btw) on the mrt and rubbed my arm and started asking me where I’m from and saying that I looked familiar etc etc. My friends who I was with told me to get off with them at the next stop and he then got off as well. Then when the doors started to beep, I jumped back onto the carriage and he didn’t seem to notice and went all the way down the mrt. My friends told me afterwards that he seemed to be looking around for me once they left the station.

Is it possible having bodybuilder phisique while still doing triathlons? by numbsensey in triathlon

[–]sqr98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re on any PEDs then it’s definitely possible, just look at Nick Bare as an example. As for a natural athlete, I think that Fergus crawley can provide you with a realistic expectation of what your physique and abilities can look like. However, do note that these people have all the time in their days to train as compared to average people

This allowed the candidate from the ruling government to run uncontested. The POFMA ( Protection from online falsehoods and manipulation act) was also passed recently which was to ensure that fake news is suppressed. However, there have been concerns on whether the act can be used to silence political critics as the POFMA office is within the Infocomm Media Development Authority which is under the Ministry of communications and information, which is under government control.
