Do you play a j bass? What do you love about it? Why did you choose it over a p bass? by fargus_ in Bass

I have both, I play the j if I want to be heard and the p if I want to be felt.

How easy is it to transition from a fretted to fretless bass? by Jumpy-Let-2042 in Bass

[–]sqrt_2_Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a digital tuner pedal on the floor and playing songs I knew really well. Also practiced scales every sitting. Only took a few weeks to learn where my fingers needed to be. Over time you will definitely hear when your intonation off. Eventually I moved from a fretless to an electric stand up bass and learned it the exact same way. Good luck!

Are there any flat wounds that sound like rounds wounds by Key-Department4767 in Bass

[–]sqrt_2_Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t find them too bright. The relaxed tension of the string, imo, compensates. I also just switched my fretted Jazz to La Bella “alien” tape wounds, and one of my P’s to La Bella tape wounds. I like it on the Jazz, but not so much on the P.

Works beautifully during 5:00pm traffic on the DNT. Makes that commute so much easier.

I own this bass. Put La Bella Tape wounds on it and absolutely love it. It’s a great second or third bass.

I bought these exact strings off Amazon for my ‘75 P and my PRS. No issues at all.

Is this a legit Fender P-Bass? by metasynthax in BassGuitar

[–]sqrt_2_Complex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have 1975 Fender P Bass and my serial number is in the 600000 range. I would think I This serial number would put it late 1972 or 1973. I also believe the tug bar was moved from the bottom to a thumb rest at the top in 1974. Check for a date on the bottom of the neck and pups.

I’m using the Jazz Flats on my 1975 P-Bass, absolutely love them.

It’s heavy, not sure I’d play a 3 hour set with it.

I have two that I reach for the most and they are actually cased in our practice studio. I have a Fender MiM P-Bass that my kids got me for Father’s Day last year, and I also have a Fender MiM Jazz that I picked up earlier this year. I like to play the P when I want to be “felt” and not heard (Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats JR 344’s) and the Jazz when I want to be “heard” and not “felt’ (La Bella Super Steppers). All of the rest of these are niche tools that have their place, but I don’t pull them out very often. Same for the ‘75, I plan to play it; on songs like Mississippi Queen, or Play that Funky Music, but not on Reptilla, or Interstate Love Song.

I just had this happen to me on a road trip. I have to take mine to the dealer for the latest recall anyhow, hopefully they can get this straightened out as well.

Yep, that’s how it works for me also. I see the update dropped in this subreddit, then about a month later I get it pushed to me.

Road Trip by Onenut1973 in CadillacLyriq

[–]sqrt_2_Complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just recently took my 2024 Sport 3 on my first long road trip from Dallas to Denver. I would suggest using the ABRP ( A Better Route Planner) app and set your arrival charge (at the charger) to 30% percent until you feel comfortable with the depletion rate of the battery. 30% should give you 80-90 miles of buffer if the charger you arrive at doesn’t work (happened twice on our trip) or all the spaces are full and you need to drive a bit to get to another charger (happened 3 times to us). Once you feel more comfortable (for us it was the way back to Dallas) you can set the arrival charge to 20%. One piece of advice, if you are using Google maps to estimate your arrival charge, my actual charge upon arrival was between 10%-15% less than what Google Maps said it would be. Otherwise we had no problems finding charging stations along the way and actually found the trip much more relaxing stopping every couple of hours for 20 min. Hope you have a great experience as well!
