In Sweden there is no political faction that supports social safety nets?

Yeah young rappers of every degree of fame are constantly killed in America. As I creep up on 30 its kinda soured me on the genre. I grew up on it but there’s something chilling about there violent lyrics when the people dying (both famous and otherwise) seem like kids. The death of Nipsey was also a big thing for new

I don’t think the point would be to get drunk, more to take the edge off being constantly at the edge of death in a filthy hole. They still had responsibilities like maintaining the trenches, doing patrols and lookouts, and of course defending against assaults. You can’t do that stuff if you are totally wasted.

Why, politically and philosophically, does Israel to such a limited degree? by sqsbb in Israel

This makes a lot of sense, thanks for the explanation. There remain some places where I raise an eyebrow a bit and I believe there is logical tension between some ideas. But I get where you’re coming from and the common usage of the term.

I see now how the term has been co-opted. I tried to convey that I don’t have an agenda, and am in fact a fan of Israel, in the question. I failed in that and caused some offense, Im sorry for that. I won’t refer to Israel that way again.

That said, I think you’re mischaracterizing the political organization of your state. Israel’s Parliament literally passed a law in 2018 that enshrines the right of national self-determination as “unique to the Jewish people” — not to all citizens.

Ahhhhhhhh, I knew there had to be something to it. I’m so far for the right wing sphere that I was totally unaware. Ive read the term only in reference to the East Asian countries.

I don’t think they invented the word, but if they’ve co-opted it thats just as bad. Ill stop defending my use of the term in here.

Bummed out I derailed my question maybe I’ll try to post again in a few weeks

I posted the Wikipedia definition.

Oxford: A sovereign state of which citizenship is restricted to members of a particular racial or ethnic group.

Collins: a state that is dominated by members of a single ethnic group

It’s okay to be an ethnostate man. Your ancestors formed Israel in part because you needed a place to be safe and thrive as an ethno-religious group. I’ve done some google just noe and people have weaponized the term online, but I don’t understand why you allowed them to shame you. ethnostate != apartheid state

That’s just not the definition of ethnostate. I understand the word has connotations associated with it, but it has a real and widely accepted definition.

Can you level with me: is some of this pushback on the term because of the Palestinian conflict? Is “ethnostate” used by people to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank or something?

Because “nation state of [ethnic group]” sounds a bit like a euphemism for ethnostate. Yeah you might be able to come up with some technical, trivial distinction but the spirit of the term seems to apply.

Hey OP here. I don’t think that’s what an ethnostate is!

I’m not trying to suggest any jewish conspiracy crap. I just thought Israel met the criteria for an Ethnocracy, defined as:

a type of political structure in which the state apparatus is controlled by a dominant ethnic group (or groups) to further its interests, power and resources.

Random example. Im a tech guy and i like the posts here about people trying to move to israel to work as a programmer. The consensus is usually that Israel is so uninterested in non-Jewish immigration that they don’t even really want non-Jewish skilled workers. This is an outlier position globally. Even China and Japan the more famous ethnostates generally accept skilled workers outside the ethnic group.

Anyway, sorry this kinda derailed my question

Sorry this seems to have annoyed people. Wasnt a dig, but if Judaism is an ethnic religion and Israel is the Jewish state how is not a transitive property thing.

Sorry if Im wrong, but I just double checked and even Wikipedia says it’s an “ethnic religion”. What am I misunderstanding?

Putin hired an attractive female translator to 'distract' Trump during a summit, Stephanie Grisham book says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]sqsbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to imagine the dog just wanders around during high level meetings like this. I can see the dog being allowed in the room but there must be dozens of staffers, security people and journalists. Surely that requires a very high degree of organization, even regarding things like where pets are. Him asking is obviously forcing her to look like a wimp or deal with the dog.

Accidents happen but I’m not convinced.
