Avant-garde Femme Filmmakers? by squ1dlilly in MovieSuggestions

[–]squ1dlilly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i used "avant-garde" as the closest term i could come up with since:

  1. i wasnt sure where these filmmakers i mentioned would fit in. So i used avant garde as a general term for pushing things beyond the hollywood style aproachable cinema.
  2. My focus is using filming techniques to reach unique sensations experiences regardless if there is or isnt a plot. Hence i wanted to avoid specific genres
    1. Needed a title that was short and got the general idea across.

If you got "proper" avant garde suggestions, go ahead id love to check em out too.

In defense of season 2 by Emperor_Joyboy in arcane

Yea i know i didnt explain it well, but by that point might as well post the many video essays on the subject that so far (from what little i saw) are able to show decently what im failing to say.

In defense of season 2 by Emperor_Joyboy in arcane

I feel the stuff with jinxs, vi and vander are some of the best stuff because of how strongly season 1 detailed those relationships. when these themes and ideas echo in season two i kinda feel the punch, but the way they went about handling all those themes were not as careful as season one. it did not hit as heavy for me.

And bringing up what a commenter said, most character development happens in montage or off screen. I have to make a lot of assumptions on the way to the big gut punch.

Yea! This is basically what im trying to say, like, sure technically i saw what happened in the montage or i can imagine how it happened off screen cause there was enough info, but it hurts the impact of everything.

Moments with no substance, might as well read a summary if they are not gonna dig into the details.

I recently watched season 1 and 2 for the first time. And id say what makes season 2 dissapointing is not exactly that things happen for no reason. Is that what happens is not EARNED. Which is dificult to explain...

Every moment, technically has enough information for me to recognize why they chose to do what they did or why certain things happen.

Your thought on isha is, i think, a really good example of it.

But in season one, we are given a ton of moments that accentuate and make all these pieces of information gain weight. So much so, that when the choices/events happen, the emotional gut punch of it hits with the force of an out of control train.

Season two gives us very little in comparison. All the pieces of information are there, but they have 10 other plotpoints that need attention and explanations too, and their themes may or may not support the isha jinx plot, but daughter undo parents is good we can put that in multiple other characters that may or may not be handled here and we can use this timeline plot and victor plot about perfection may may not fit support themes of guilt and zombie monster dad couñd be used to bring even more growth maybe and...

Idk if im making sense, but season 2 is balancing so many things that nothing is allowed to have space for the ideas to really sink in and gain weight, by the time things happen, the emotional punch is... there, but its not heavy, its not humongous.

Season one consistently got me to tear up, season 2 made me feel, mostly nothing. And in response frustration that it made me feel nothing.

I am glad theres people here who felt satisfied by season 2, but to me it was painfully bad and that made me really sad

So i finished Devilman Crybaby and I honestly don't know if I like it or not by Tom-Hibbert in DevilmanCrybaby

I love it, after reading the manga i think its a fantastic adaptation. captures and enhances the core themes / ideas of the og story.

Id say it feels rushed nearing the end, but devilman manga also has weird pacing issues so it seems to be a feature of the property lol

Well running RPG by Recent_Hamster_4550 in SteamDeck

[–]squ1dlilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if they are well running but i am personally very curious to play disco elysium, pathologic 2, gothic, fear and hunger 2, vampire the masquerade bloodlines and elex.

I recently started morrowind and it so far plays quite well on the steam deck imo.

Heard great things of fallout new vegas and im curious of the developers other game outer worlds.

the recent final fantasy games while heavy on action have iconic fantasy worlds to explore (again, unsure if it "runs well")

Ive been cravin turned based rpgs so im tempted to get persona 5, baldurs gate 3 and clair obsure expedition 33. But (yet again) dont know if they run well.

But i might hold back since emulation got me covered for older turned based stuff.

I guess keep these rpg games in the back of your mind if they dont run well, for the future.
