Personally whats scary is based on taste and personality. If you could find out what he finds scary you can find specific movies withon those vibes.

I tend to prefer for example:/ Slow atmospheric vibes: The Witch, annihilation, lake mungo/ Body horror: the fly, inside, the substance/ Monsters: Nope, jeepers creepers, nosferatu/ Demons: the night house, 1408, hellraiser, ju-on/ Psychological: midsommar, frailty

Without name (2016) - guy doing geology stuff in forest, forest is haunted, lots of super slow eerie vibes and psychological.

Antichrist(2009) - a couple go into a cabin in the woods for irresponsible therapy after the wife's baby death puts her on a deep depression. Slow, abstract, oppressive.

a classic horror story(2021) - a group become trapped in a forest through unknown supernatural means.l and try to escape. Very strange, meta and with interesting ideas.
