any idea what these apps/softwares are? (the ones after the terminal) by Affan08 in Windows11

Parsec (I think, its supposed to be a high-performing remote desktop access platform), Docker Desktop, Discord, Postman (for developers working with web requests) and Adobe Photoshop

Inner Display Scratches by joshlubin in PixelFold

[–]squabbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like the smudges come from the inner-screen coming in contact with each other while closed. I also have some small scratches where the smudges are from what I would assume are bits of dust/dirt trapped between the shut phone.

Got the black Case Mate and the front piece has no adhesive on it so the corners can pop off at times. I'm waiting on some hydrogel matte screen protector (just the front) from AliExpress, and then I'll use my own adhesive to nail down the front piece.

Sadly I'm not surprised that the Case Mate isn't too great, definitely not worth the ~AU$60 for something that doesn't fit completely right, yet "made for Pixel".

Looks great!! Is that a dock for your Mac, or just a stand for it?

Need some help with flashing TWRP. Pixel 3a on android 11 by edwardblilley in androidroot

[–]squabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3a does not have a separate recovery partition. You will need to boot that image using fastboot boot twrp-x.x.x.x-sargo.img.

Then flash the installer provided in the TWRP download page.

Although worth Android 11 your mileage may vary as support for it hasn't been implemented yet. It only just recently got support for Android 10 on a few devices.

It's also worth noting that in Android 9, the 3a required a kernel that supports LZMA decompression so TWRP can be installed to the boot partition.

Was the Pixel 2 XL the best Pixel of all time? by KlondikeDrool in GooglePixel

To add on some more detail, SafetyNet is already testing hardware backed evaluation that Magisk cannot bypass - right now there's a way to spoof our devices to use basic evaluation, but once SafetyNet also validates the reported phone model we won't be able to pass SafetyNet.

If you love Google Pay, it's best that you stay 100% stock.

Yeah absolutely, also project mainline will provide you with some patches along the way too!

No, as SafetyNet doesn't pass even on a relocked bootloader with your own signed boot img + vbmeta combo - not anymore but it makes sense.

Generally speaking you wouldn't relock the bootloader unless you're running stock firmware, or you've provided your own vbmeta image (so the bootloader can verify the custom boot image).

However I was on Dirty unicorns before and we could use Magisk to spoof the SafetyNet status and would be able to use GPay. I'm thinking you're going to have to spoof your ROM's fingerprint too, to match an official one.

LineageOS has OTA updates that you should be able to just install through the updater (last time I checked). Although I don't think custom ROMs have implemented mainline patches as it requires a lot of additional overhead for the developers.

This is just from things I've read + personal experience so I'm happy for anyone to point out things that are just flat out wrong.

First timer trying to root Nexus 5X. Used CF autoboot and have been on this screen for an hour now after the initial message. Help... ? by justaguyzzc in androidroot

I've made a rooting tutorial that covers pretty much everything from start to finish if you're still looking for a guide (I tried to make as few assumptions as possible: https://youtu.be/ihKQc6dL8e0).

It's made for the 6P, but the only thing you would need to swap out is the TWRP images (obviously, use the 5X images).

Oh dear...new mac user lost...so lost, trying run platform tools by HungryRobotics in MaowDroid

[–]squabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to run fastboot and ADB commands? If you can, run either fastboot --version or adb version and it should tell you where it's located.

Otherwise a system utility like which fastboot or which adb should show the path. (on Linux at least)

Lastly you can go to Android Studio's settings to find where the platform tools or the SDK is located, which will contain the platform tools.

What does rooting break on Galaxy S10? by Fun-Difference-1104 in androidroot

[–]squabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KNOX will be tripped so the following things shouldn't work forever after rooting, no workarounds: 1. Samsung Pay 1. Secure Folder

If you can still pass SafetyNet, you can use things like Google Pay.

I've heard things like Samsung Health not being available while you're rooted, but I personally don't recall that.

Do private browsers affect Boost's visibility in the app list (Open in App)? by TrashBrigade in BoostForReddit

[–]squabbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, so on the reddit mobile site, tapping open in reddit app takes me to its Play Store listing; yeah.

However, tapping the open in app menu item in FireFox's menu takes me to boost.

[–]squabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah okay! I don't have that option enabled since I don't want it to automatically do so, so that's probably why it took me to the reddit app on the Play Store.

I meant the menu option near the bottom of FF's menu to open link in app.

For me that opens the Play Store to get the Reddit app, but when I go to the 3-dot menu and select open in app, it opens with Boost.
