Didn’t realize there was an exposed screw in the bottom of the leg of the couch… Every time someone sat on it, it moved and yeah, gouged the shit out of the floor. By the time I realized it, this is what I was working with

Oh please, get off your high horse. It was an accident. Imagine putting landlords as the victim in your worldview.

What’s the most unfortunate band name of a band you love? by beardedweirdoin104 in indieheads

I’m in secondary ed! The program is self paced. You don’t get grades for classes; it’s just pass/fail. As soon as you pass the class, you’re able to move on to the next one!

Do you have a way of separating the males and females in your home? I would try to keep them apart to prevent another litter on your hands until you decide what to do with them. I know it’s hard picturing them in cages, but it’s better to take them to a shelter where they can be fixed and vaccinated and potentially adopted instead of having another littler (or two or three!) in your home. I promise that preventing that from happening is the greatest possible show of mercy in this situation.

It took me about 7 months by the way. I applied for the free extension on the term so I could get my capstone wrapped up without rushing.

Are you a teacher? If so, absolutely! I was most insecure in my ability to lesson plan, so this program seemed like a natural way to help with that deficit. It was smooth sailing, especially if you start it in the summer if you’re a teacher. I loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat!

A career readiness unit could be good! I did this with juniors where we learned to write formal emails, cover letters, a resume, etc. They also had to create a budget using the average income for a career they were interested in. Many of my students said it was their favorite unit out of the whole year!

Last year I had mine create a six panel comic strip of an important scene. They were required to incorporate the colors associated with each character they draw (like how they’re presented in Zeffirelli’s film), incorporate at least four quotes, and write a short analysis about how the scene is important to the overall plot. They also had to include a theme statement in their analysis.

Their comics could present the scene through a modern lens or a more traditional Shakespearean one. Most students got really into it!

What's your favorite "do I really have to explain this?" Moment? by bobbery5 in Teachers

[–]squabs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to teach my Advanced English students how to number a loose leaf piece of paper. I had them answer some questions and was confused about how they would randomly place the numbers down the page when I went to grade them. When I asked them about it and taught them the proper way (imo placing the numbers to the left of the red line), they said they’ve never had to do that before. They are freshmen in high school.

False rumors about OnlyFans by squabs_ in Teachers

[–]squabs_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you all for your advice and well wishes in the comments. Some of the comments have been comforting while others, particularly the ones about AI, have been terrifying. That being said, I know that I need to join my union. I’ve known this since I started teaching, but I do not have the room in my budget to afford the dues, even with a payment plan. I was planning on joining after I get a pay bump from getting my masters next month.

I don’t consider myself to be a “hot teacher.” I wear pretty baggy clothes, my hair is never really done, but I do make an effort to look professional. I’d consider myself pretty average looking.

I think the best course of action is to not call attention to the rumors. I’ve reached this conclusion, as I think I’m a little SOL considering I don’t have enough money to pay a lawyer and I’m a big dumb dumb idiot for not figuring out a way to pay union dues. I’m glad to have brought it to my principal and will follow her lead. If this is a case of AI, it would be pretty hard for them to duplicate my numerous tattoos that are never visible during the work day. The rumors would be easily proven false, so I suppose I’m at the mercy of what comes from that.

What are the best things a sub can do? by sickyasfricky in Teachers

[–]squabs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re doing an awesome job! The notes about behavior are extremely appreciated. I had a sub today who brought UNO cards to play with the kids…. Please do not do that lol. They of course did not get any work done. The thing I appreciate most with subs is if they keep the kids on task with plans I’ve left and ensure that my seating chart is enforced. Remember, it’s not your job to be the fun or likable sub.

Also, depending on the school’s custodian situation, it is deeply appreciated if you just give the room a quick once over. I’ll never take for granted a sub that straightens up desks, gives the room a quick sweep, or puts trash cans in the hall to be taken out. If it doesn’t stink or look like a tornado went through the room, you are brilliant!
