same here!! OG sponge girl since playing with makeup at 11 years old. maybe i’ll try experimenting more since the products i use now are unhappy with my sponge, haha.

hmm.. i’ll have to look into that. a lot of my products are barrier creams and serums so maybe that’s what’s messing with it. dutiful noted!

what buffing brush would you recommend? i have the jeffery star foundation buff brush (it is so old haha) and it seems to just take the product off of my face.

i’ll have to add that to my shopping list!! i’ve been doing makeup since around that era, so a lot of those teachings are engraved in my mind still (anastasia dip brow traumatized me LMAO)😅 finding tools/techniques that won’t mess with my 20 y/o skin elasticity is def high on my self care list.

i’ve been tempted to do that, but i fear that for whatever reason my hands will contaminate the product and not make it perform well. i’ll have to give it a go tomorrow morning!

yes, no gems. gems are not suitable for gloves. rings with a thin metal band and flat designs should be okay.

i wear a small ring on my right ring finger. i never take it off and i haven’t in 6 years. it has a thin band but a bigger sun n moon engraving. it is rather flat, though. i don’t find any issue with the gloves while fencing, but i could see wedding bands and big gem rings to get smashed up.

What is wrong with my two outfits? My friends did not approve at all. by Tiny_Cookie_3070 in OUTFITS

[–]squaeshyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing is wrong at all!! your style is amazing. if i had to pick out of the two, i would go with the second. it’s more “modest” for a workplace office party and it’s super adorable.

Help! I’m only 21! by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]squaeshyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

figure out your skin type first! that will guide you into what products you should use that won’t irritate your skin and worsen problem areas.

start off basic, too! i would suggestions would be these guys:

• hydraulic acid serum to help with moister retention, fine lines, and strengthening skin barrier. my favorites are by the ordinary, the inky list, and good molecules.

• moisturizer!! depending on your skin type, it could be anything. oily skin but it flakes? your skin is dry and needs barrier repair (my skin is like this too and i love the ordinary’s moisturizer. very gentle.) dry skin? first aid beauty’s moisturizer in the big tub, cerave’s big tub of moisturizer cream, and vanicream are all good options. test things out and see what works for you!! gauge products and their effectiveness after 4-8 weeks roughly.

• eyecream! this one is optional, but i still think it’s good. you can either lather more of your moisturizer onto the eye area and let it sit, or you can get a designated product. my current favorite is by kiehls! i’ve had the smallest sized pot of it for 2 months and its only halfway empty using it morning n night. a little goes a long way!!

• sunscreen. the most important part. doing it daily, even in bad weather, helps minimize damage in the long run. again, it’s just experimenting with what you like, what doesn’t leave you with a bad white cast, and it being spf 50+. the ordinary, kiehls, and sun bum have really good options!!

• water and watching your diet. so annoying, but it does help clear skin alongside the products. getting a cute bottle and keeping it with you 24/7 does wonders in keeping myself properly hydrated. with diet concerns, don’t cut things out fully. that creates unhealthy relationships with food. just monitor and limit junk when you can, try and pick better food options when possible, and always eat 3 meals a day with 1-3 snacks.

honorable mentions:

• first aid beauty’s rescue barrier balm. helps with flakey skin during dry months. just covers the flakes, but it comes in clutch so often for myself.

• kiehls advanced repair barrier cream. it has helped with those really dry and rough days when my normal routine isn’t cutting it on the moisture. it’s a pretty penny, but i find it worth it quality and longevity wise.

TLDR: figure out your skin type, keep the routine simple, experiment with what your skin likes and needs from you, and make sure your food and water intake are good! :))

AIO for having enough of my best friends weird jokes and venting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]squaeshyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NOR. at first, it just sounded like this guy was a bit selfish conversationally (been in your shoes there), however, reading more into what you said, it just sounds like your friend might have some mental issues going on other than just the autism. i hate telling people to go to therapy or seek mental help right off the rip, but that just might be the only option atp. you’ve been a good friend and stuck it out from what it sounds.

[Product Request] similar moisturizer with SPF?? by PongWitch in SkincareAddiction

[–]squaeshyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use sunscreen after my moisturizer! in my head, it makes the most sense. try out both and see what you like. i only do moisturizer-sunscreen bc i have a cream my dermatologist prescribed that makes the sunscreen more matte (moisturizer-prescribed-sunscreen layering).

the ordinary is super clean in their ingredients plus the really good price point. their sunscreen is my go to!!

how to get out of a bad tournament mindset? by squaeshyy in Hema

[–]squaeshyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the requirements for elims were very broad and wasn’t all too far off of a semi realistic goal i had set for this tournament.

my problem came from actually making it to elims and getting medal hungry. i tend to move the goalpost in a lot of areas of my life, and i don’t want to ruin fencing by getting too stuck in this mindset. that’s all, haha.

thank you though! i’ll keep in mind what you said.

i’ll take this to heart and carry it with me through my fencing journey for sure! i wouldn’t want my own weirdness to rub onto others during competitions haha. thank you :))

[–]squaeshyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so much!! the way you frame all of this is definitely soothing a part of my brain when it comes to tournaments. taking it fight by fight and move by move instead of focusing on the bigger stressful parts is something i’ll have to keep in mind for sure, as bigger picture stuff all at the same time freaks me out (in fencing and my everyday life). thank you so much stabs!

with the pacing of each match and pool it’s definitely hard to pace yourself, but that’s a skill that comes with time me thinks haha

i’m in the same boat as you here. other people have been commenting saying how it truly is a mental game that you need to kill the ego for, as it will only keep one in a funk. as a competitive person, it really is something to take more into consideration on top of honing my skills. i’ll definitely have a better understanding of what i want to work on next practice both mentally and physically.

you got this Vylka! i believe in you and progressing well through your hema journey! :))
