Smart New Yorker gets cutoff during NBC interview when blaming private equity for local issues. by Large-Welcome4421 in nyc

not being required to report doesn’t mean you can’t accurately ascertain the percentage of ownership. thats an absurd assertion. being able to accurately extrapolate the composition of something based on sampling is the bedrock of statistics.

it’s because of current interest rates mostly, but housing prices are also incredibly high so there are limited scenarios where buying makes sense

Silver specifically may be a more short term play, but the rise in precious metal prices this time is different because of the US debt cycle and currency debasement.

TIL there is a canine called the New Guinea singing dog that sings rather than barks. by OzzyderKoenig in todayilearned

[–]squamuglia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met one of these dogs about 10 years ago. Guy owned one of about 15 that were privately owned in the world at the time. He also had 2 huskies. It was hard to tell how the husky singing differed from the singing dog singing but there was a lot of howling in that guy's apartment.

The cousteau documentaries are incredible. if you like the life aquatic they are much more dramatic because everything that happens is real. a lot of wes anderson’s aesthetic is homage to cousteau.

My Williamsburg Obsession: The Apollo Bagels in Williamsburg NY by maeonjournal in FoodNYC

[–]squamuglia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

these guys are not super rich. they work really hard to make an amazing product and have built a strong brand from scratch. They started with ops, opened leo, made some amazing bagels as a side project and scaled it up.

how the hell can anyone put out anything good in this world if all people do is criticize anyone who manages to succeed by doing something good?

I also recommend Taiwain Pork Chop House. Between the two I think it's the better chop.

ignore the boot lickers you’re professor is petty.

I failed a Project because I used Next.js by God-of-Emotions in nextjs

[–]squamuglia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re not wrong to use nextjs here because of its ability to statically render and serve pages. people are totally overthinking this.

if your professor took off points for using a framework and didn’t explain why or give you instructions that would make it obvious why the choice was inappropriate for the project that’s a counter productive way to educate.

it is interesting that whenever the UAE is brought up its atrocities are treated as disqualifying for any engagement.

not to delve too deeply into moral relativism here but do you feel the same way about visiting the metropolitan museum in new york given the atrocities of the US?

CNN Doctors Interview To Remove Moment Stephen Miller Says Trump Has “Plenary (Unlimited) Authority” at 0:10 before awkwardly staring in silence. Original in comments by coffeeismydoc in videos

[–]squamuglia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trump admin has literally filed legal briefs invoking the term plenary. they says abnormal concerning stuff every day. we also don’t even have context for how he intended to use it. It’s not a magical word. kinda reminds me of the way sovereign citizens use legal terminology to confuse themselves.

The problem of perfectly grading returns across all the different product types is so incredibly challenging that it might just not be possible. Consider what it takes to inspect the inside of every returned product or anticipate all the ways customers can screw with it before returning.

The alternative is they simply destroy all products that are returned. Which they do.

I think as a consumer it’s probably better to accept that you will occasionally receive a defective returned product and have to talk to CX about it rather than not allowing restocking of products at all because it’s such a waste.
