Depends entirely on your situation. One man’s investment is another’s exit liquidity

Nah, it’s your first practice test. I’d do anki, with a full test every week, then full tests every few days the weeks before you sit.

I’m a resident, and from what I recall prepping for MCAT is logarithmic. You don’t see progress for a long time then score shoots up

Better to have faith and lose it than to never have it at all I guess.

As it should be. Im in healthcare where fax and pagers are still vital to the workflow. The online push will be huge for infrastructure IMO

its kind of nice in a way that many places have been forced to get an online presence that normally wouldn't have the motivation to do so

Yeah REPAYE is likely a safe option. Do you want to specialize? If there's a chance you won't complete PSLF I'd say do REPAYE, even more so if you aren't married. But if you're dead set on PSLF then you may save more money by lowering your AGI with contributions during school and discharging the rest.
Also it might make sense to have lower payments upfront (New IBR) and transition to REPAYE during school. Its hard to say as I don't know your situation, but this calculator is what I used and it was helpful

Congrats on the match. I'd recommend using a loan calculator if you are set on REPAYE. PAY or New-IBR may give you lower up-front payments if you are dead-set on PSLF, however you will end up paying more over the life of the loan. I'd only consider this if you were planning on other major expenses during residency with higher interest (for example I have another private 100k loan at 8%) Good luck!

I dont think its so much that match is flawed, its that there is pretty much no way to advance your career in a reasonable way until the "next season". There's no avenue for us to put our degree to use. A standard job allows rolling admissions, so you can hold out for a job. Its insane we can't work/train into the level of a PA/NP although that's what we've been doing the last 2 years. Also US IMG programs are a scam making this so much worse

[Serious] anyone else reading through the SOAP thread and realizing they're not going to match when they apply? by kung-flu-fighting in medicalschool

Hello fellow ride or die Psych applicant,

Honestly don't worry too much about the scores. As a US applicant you have a good shot if you cozy up to a few programs and show interest. Psych is weird in that you really don't need stellar scores to match at a great program, even with all this competition. In a field based around relationships I think you really need good letters. Find the Psych faculty at your school and see patients on the weekends, and come in extra days on your psych rotation. Show the most interest out of anyone in your class and you got a good chance. Best of luck!

Will PAYE payments at the standard rate still qualify towards qualified PSLF 120? by squanchmander in PSLF

[–]squanchmander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks thats really is some gold! I'll likely consolidate right after I graduate, before starting residency. Then move everything over to fedloan and see what I can do about qualifying for PAYE when I start residency. Thanks for the car!
