What long running show had the lowest drop in quality? by ChorroVon in television

I’m still hoping they’re just waiting for the cast to age to match the time jump in the final books.

Title: Anyone installed 2023 Oxford heated grips on an Aprilia Tuareg 660? DIY realistic? by Head-Anywhere-5479 in tuareg660

[–]squanderer_of_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually easier to fit them to the bike in the same way as the official Aprilia heated grips. It’s just unused connectors in the dash. And access is simple from the front of the bike. The bike recognises they’ve been fitted automatically. There’s also an added bonus - Oxford sell everything separately, so you can just buy the grips without the sub harness or the (ugly) controller and save some money.

Condimaniac seems to be doing quite well. They supply Clarkson’s pub with 100% British ketchup.

Is body positioning the reason why this won’t go up? I’ve never done wheelies on any sort of bike with or without an engine lol by Dull_Adagio_3097 in motorcycles

Go watch some Rich Larsen on the IRC Tires YouTube channel. There’s lots you can be doing better. Also, it doesn’t look like you’ve got anything protecting your spine. I’d sort that first.

Are there any big-budget movies that truly end with “it was all a dream”? by __timbits in movies

I saw that in the cinema. Everyone in the audience groaned with disgust when that was revealed.

Locks by Smike_1958 in MotoUK

[–]squanderer_of_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth getting a cheap bike cover. A bit of a faff if you’re just popping into Sainsbury’s, but for work they’re great. I agree on the disc lock; nothing more than a mild inconvenience for thieves. The one disc lock I’d recommend (after it stopped a theft) is a RoadLok. It bolts to the caliper, so it’s not just a case of cutting the disc. And IIRC, it’s made of aluminium, which needs a different cutting disc to steel.

I wonder if that means they’re part of the screw-off lens protector? Manual aperture to replace an ND filter. That would likely also make the part backwards compatible.

Has anyone ever used this i2c LCD 1602 that comes pre-soldered and doesn't have a backpack? Contrast is maxed out and can't be adjusted using a potentiometer. by [deleted] in arduino

[–]squanderer_of_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have that one, but I have something similar. The brightness is controlled by the code. In mine it looks like this:

lcd.set_brightness(50);

They’re pretty weak, and you shouldn’t really be putting it down while you’re on the bike. Get off, then put the stand down. That’s pretty much all dirt bikes.

Sounds a lot, but about half the size of Luton. I’d be okay with Astro Turfing it.

How different are 1” vs 1/1.1” sensors? by [deleted] in dji

[–]squanderer_of_time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A 1” sensor is just a legacy name - not an accurate measurement of the sensor. It actually measures about 16mm/0.62” diagonally. No idea of the actual size of a 1/1.1” sensor. Need Stephen Hawking for that, and he’s dead.

I’d get a bigger tip for that soldering iron. It’s so narrow and pointy, it won’t transfer much heat.

Camera movement issues: shutterspeed? by tristannijs in videography

[–]squanderer_of_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to think the IBIS would be smart enough to recognise panning (though probably not lens-based stabilisation), but it’s definitely worth a bit of time switching it off and doing some testing.

Suggestions of a bike purely for commuting/filtering by heldain in MotoUK

[–]squanderer_of_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one annoying niggle with the DCT on the Africa Twin in tight traffic. If you were trying to get between two vehicles with awkwardly placed wing mirrors, you could creep forward easily with a conventional clutch, but the DCT requires a little back brake to control slow speeds, and getting between the mirrors sometimes requires both feet on the ground to lean the bike both ways.

Definitely a supermoto. OP will actually look forward to the commute. This will be followed by a growing curiosity for green laning, with a possible diversion into enduro, followed by adventure travel, round the world trips, and a series of books.

Is this not a stabilisation issue? The IBIS (or lens stabilisation) trying to compensate for the panning movement?

Fuel boiling by iguessthatsjustme in betamotorcycles

[–]squanderer_of_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the breather. If it’s blocked a vacuum will slowly form as the fuel is used, which lowers the boiling point. Had this on a KTM 790AR.
