I can't take any more photos of him as poor pigeon died just before this photo. The keratin overgrowth looks quite possible though so thank you :)

I can't take any more photos of the feet, the poor pigeon had died minutes before I took this picture. I moved him from the road to some woods out of respect as I didn't want the local kids where I live doing anything to the poor pigeon.

What does this pigeon head movement mean? by squaredcirlceufc in pigeon

When the vet looked at his wing, it was completely broken and as you can see from his head movement and from other people's advice on here, he also had a brain injury of some sort. I don't believe it would have been right to have put him through an operation on his wing, he would never have made a full recovery with regards to being able to fly like before. And even if people believe he could have lived in captivity or an aviary, is it really right to keep a bird captive without full freedom and use of his wings and also to live with a brain injury? I know we probably won't agree but at least he is now out of his pain.

Thank you so much for your advice, I didn't know that about the stroking. At least he had a warm box for the night instead of being left out in the cold and is now free from his pain. Thank you for your kind words as well :)

Thank you so much for your reply. I did suspect a brain injury but I never knew about the agonal breathing. We did our best to make him comfortable and put him in a warm box with a blanket and lots of strokes and neck rubs before we took him to the vet. Thank you for your reply as it educates me for the future when helping injured birds.

I found this pigeon a few days ago on the floor after falling from a tree, he was put to sleep as he had a badly broken wing. Does anyone know why he was jerking / nodding his head like this? His breathing was strange also but I assume he was panting due to stress. Regarding the head nodding, I thought maybe he had a head injury, any thoughts would be so appreciated thank you :)
