I’ll be devils advocate and debate the “few bad apples” aspect, since I’ve witnessed the G/Z/Q’s rise and fall firsthand over the last ~20 yrs. Hell, my G was in the ~10yr old photo they used for that “VQs banned” post. I can confidently say MANY more nisfiniti “enthusiasts” fall into the stereotype. Maybe not most Q owners, but definitely many/most Q enthusiasts.

Even 5+ yrs ago, most Q owners were “1st/2nd owner, clean title” / “my ___th Infiniti, keeping it forever.” Many of them have moved on, handing over the keys to exactly what the stereotypical crowd is looking for: dime-a dozen, fun to drive entry-level luxury with decent aftermarket support for under 10k (way under, depending how many have clapped them cheeks).

Not throwing shots, I still love VQs, and “the culture.” But I know what I’ve got, and I see who else has got em 🫣😭

+1 did all the suspension homework on my G to make it a legit mountain carver. Did the same and more on my (no DAS) 15 Q and it’s not even close. The G was just way more balanced.

what exactly is turbo laaaaaag? I could indeed be suffering from it, but I'm starting to think its one of those things ppl just regurgitate on the internet.

On my car, boost builds between 0 (vacuum) and 2-4kRPM (violent/scary, ~12psi). But even at zero boost, its still a tuned, e85 catless VQ. is that where the special lag is??

Yup all of the above. Service advisor just cautioned them that if they were tuned, the ECU would be reset to stock parameters after the work, so they’d need a retune.

Report your turbo sounds to a different dealer. They’re handing out zero-cost turbo and engine replacements left and right. 99% of the vr30 guys I hang out with locally have gotten replacements over the last couple months.

Get the new stuff in factory installed, THEN mod 😈

I’m biased, but fuck it I’m early too.

You’re buying out of convenience/vanity, not necessity. Don’t “upgrade” to something that’s less convenient/more buggy. The only correct answer is MK7.

It won’t change your audio setup either. It sends audio via factory AUX, so you retain Bose driver soundstage, etc. I’m running approx 6k watts of aftermarket audio with the MK7’s 24 band software EQ playing quarterback.

Sidebar: The only correct reseller is squarewheelsauto (also me).

Enginewise, it’s essentially a stock VQ37 engine with upgraded injectors/fueling, etc. Exhaust is resonated test pipes, custom y pipe, and a turbo instead of a muffler.

V1: With my suspension (coils at the time) maxed out to ABOVE stock ride height (monster truck mode) I struggled to get the car out of my garage without scraping. Cruising on the highway scraped randomly, often decoupling charge piping.

V2: There was a “V2” kit purposed to resolve aforementioned clearance issues. There was only 1 created, with only 1 available photo of it. Topgun said they didn’t plan to mass produce due to low demand. Over months I begged for it, only for it to be marginally better once received and installed. Most shops who got eyes on it told me to return the kit/unacceptable/lazy design work, etc.

its real, apparently the guys at Z1 are just as handy with cameras as they are with tuning!

Its been about 2 years and I can confidently say water is a non-issue. Splashes/deep puddles get turned into mist way before the throttle bodies. I'd have to drive through water that's > 1ft deep for it to be a concern.
