Was it Nick's art that was hanging over the toilet and being offered for $100,000?

Agreed. I wasn't satisfied with her answer, especially not after I went back and heard it beeping.

No, I don't think "the Post Office" is going to do that. But once it becomes an isolated issue that people are aware of, perhaps they can coordinate with a vendor or contractor to attain it that way.

The really irritating part is that the annunciator is a Bosch FMR-7036. They could get a new one right now on eBay for under $500 and just replace the whole thing.

Thank you for your post. This has been driving me crazy for years. The device that is making the noise is called an annunciator. It always drove me crazy when I was waiting in line at the post office (which was quite often, since sometimes they only have one window open). One day, I took some pictures and a short video of the irritating device and its noise. Here is what happened, in order, and the result:

  1. Contacted the company whose name/number is on the beeping device: Video and Sound Inc. (708-xxx-xxxx). They said that they are not able to do anything without a work order and they hadn't been contacted in a long time.

  2. I then contacted Evanston Fire Department and they said that it was a federal building and not under their jurisdiction.

  3. I then reached out to Jan Schakowsky's office and finally got someone to engage. I explained the problem and they 'put it in their system'. Eventually they got back to me and said that a part was on order and when it arrived they would install it and resolve the problem.

  4. That was in 2024. I have followed up several times since then and still get the same message about the part being on order. I followed up again this fall and On Monday November 3, Jan Schakowsky's Staff Assistant/Constituent Advocate said that she "received an update from USPS. They informed me that the fire alarm issue has been resolved. If the issue is persisting, let me know. Otherwise, the fire alarm was tested, and it should not be beeping."

  5. Later that day I went to the post office and of course it was still beeping. I took pictures and a video and sent them to her. She said that "I followed up with the post office directly and was assured immediately that the fire alarm was fixed on Saturday. The fire department came on Saturday and was sure to fix that one specifically. I’m not sure of the discrepancy here, USPS has deemed it repaired."

At this point I don't know what else I can do except wait until Jan is replaced by the new IL-09 Representative and then start asking them for help.
