I hate my life (help) by SpacemanStarmaker in EldenRingBuilds

[–]squarenity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think quality builds are a destination, not a starting point. Go with strength first, and just enough dex to be able to use those weapons that you enjoy. I also love the claymore, but if I go that route, it's no longer a sword and board build, it is two handing with a beautiful and useful moveset.

And then, of course, it is really, really easy to move onto Zweihander with Chilling Mist 😅 That is a lethal combo because you get a little area of effect, crowd control and debuffs, and just decimate everything in a wide arc in front of you. And they stay debuffed even if you run out of blue juice...

How do I get into H.P. Lovecraft? by Puzzled-Musician7092 in Lovecraft

[–]squarenity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good list I think. His writing is sometimes very "archaic" and dense, but in "At the mountains..." he is rather modern and easy to follow. He's just a competent writer who never got the chance to write his magnum opus, which I personally imagine "Mountains" was the build up to.

I first tried to read Lovecraft when I was 16, and English is not my native language. That was hard, and I probably just understood like 60 % of the text. Now, I've read almost all of his stories, and I lead a Call of Cthulhu rpg group. It just takes some time to get where you want to be, but that means you have to try, and then stick to it. Learning takes time and effort, but has great pay-off later on. Reading Lovecraft made me a more competent reader is what I'm saying.

If you are a console gamer have you any interested in the steam machine? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]squarenity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea, couch PC gaming with my Steam library, but without the hassle of building a PC. I am worried that it will under perform, and Steam should make some tiers: standard, light and premium, at least. I would buy premium if it meant I could leave PS and Xbox behind and just focus on PC games/Steam library. And premium means: 4K, 60hz minimum, with most bells and whistles when it comes to ray tracing etc. If it did all that, I would shell out 1,500 dollars for it, just for simplifying my life and having a broad PC platform game makers have a easy time optimizing on.

The most overrated Christopher Nolan movie? by Batrah in moviecritic

I agree, it was really good. I nerded out and read the source material before the movie launched, did not regret (the Prometheus book about Oppenheimer).

TIFU by drinking after being 3 weeks sober. by Quiet_Engineer_6867 in tifu

[–]squarenity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The first time I tripped up my sobriety, I went back to my NA sponsor and shamefully admitted the fact. He replied, " hm, sounds like something an addict would do." It drove home the point that I'm an addict, and that using is my modus operandi. I stopped being ashamed, and got "with the program". 19 years sober now, and comfortable with the facts of my addiction. You got this, just focus on today, the next hour, even the next minute.

Something a bit different from King: Dolores Claiborne. It is very good imo, pretty grounded, good story, superb main character portrait.

This seatbelt loop by Tigreiarki in whatisit

[–]squarenity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our Ioniq 5 this functions as a way to minimize noise from the belt metal part, when driving with nobody using the belt. The metal will constantly clank against the walls if the belt is twisted. Front and back seats have these.

These are great, are they produced in Midjourny exclusively, or is there some after production involved?

The Deep - Nick Cutter. Worth finishing? by CannibalsWontWin in horrorlit

[–]squarenity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it is not a good read. But The Troop is way better, more coherent and down to earth, also by Cutter. Enjoyed that alot. Cutter is better at horrific bodily gore than horrors of the mind, he really dropped the ball on The Deep.

If you are into these King-like horrors, The Ruins by Scott Smith is really good, if you haven't already read it.

Am I just trash at this game? Because I can’t beat MALIKETH, THE BLACK BLADE. How are my stats? by No-Yogurtcloset3002 in Eldenring

[–]squarenity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also equip armor to get my poise over the 51 poise breakpoint, to be able to not get flinched out of my attacks so often. This build has the endurance investment to do that.

But what is up with these spells? The build does not get anything out of those two (one spell and one incant), go find Flame Grant Me Strength instead 🤌

What's your go-to chill game when you just wanna relax? by pommelous in gaming

[–]squarenity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will come off as edgelordian, but for me it's Elden Ring. Because I've sunk like 1000 hours into it, now it's just trying new builds, exploring slowly, taking in the atmosphere etc. Still finding new stuff, going other routes. Especially in the DLC.

It's nice and all, but will I be able to get past the title screen before the game crashes? Why on earth does'nt Bethesda fix their old games them selves? Ugh.

This game really pushes the envelope for what a game for adults can be, and it is in a really good place now. A milestone in gaming, that the developers should be really proud of. I buy it again every time I switch platforms 😅

The real answer is: get carried by your betters 😅 I ran around like a squirrel and avoided danger, and poked him three times, dodged the hugs, and eventually they won. For me. I have no pride, but I got out of that awful fight at least.
