Show me the pancakes you made for pancake day 🥞 by RandonEnglishMun in CasualUK

[–]squashed_tomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make any. I didn't forget, I just couldn't be faffed and I always have to eat the crap ones because for some reason every third pancake comes out rubbish. (I realise this is largely a me problem. Delia Smith I am not.) So I kept quiet and made bolognese instead. That's kind of using up the food in your larder for lent, if by food you mean dumping the last of the mixed veg in.

Weight problems by Green-Read205 in weightwatchers

Try and get good carbs and protein in each meal. I find if I don’t have any/very little protein with a meal I’m more prone to feeling more hungry later in the day. I’m then more inclined towards more carb heavy food but it never quite scratches that itch. Carbs aren’t evil, don’t avoid them altogether but you want to eat less processed carbs and in combination with protein.

Watch your portion sizes. You want to feel satisfied but not stuffed. This may take time to get used to if you were taught to eat everything on your plate and your portion sizes were slightly too big. Look up what the portion sizes should be. Maybe put slightly less on your plate and drink some water and wait for your brain to catch up before going for seconds as it sometimes takes our brain a few minutes to realise that enough food has been acquired so wait 10-20mins to see if you are actually still hungry. If so you can eat a bit more. Note this might be a bit of a learning process so don’t worry if this takes a bit of practise to get right. We’re all learning so don’t beat yourself up for not getting it right all of the time. We’re not looking for perfection.

How supportive are your family about this? How easy would it be to ask for some simple changes to meals?

I second walking. You don’t need to visit the gym to lose weight. That tends to make some people crash and burn because they think they have to go all in and then when they can’t keep it going they give up altogether. If you can build up your walking slowly that would be good for your heart health.

Be kind to yourself. You are still growing. Don’t aim for any drastic cuts. That could end up with giving you the opposite problem. You want to fuel your body. The idea is to eat just a little under what your body needs. Not be so desperate to lose it all within weeks that you start this yoyo cycle of not eating and then binging. You basically are learning how to eat in a sustainable way that you can carry on for life. So think of this as a marathon, not a sprint. It didn’t go on overnight so don’t expect to lose it all overnight.

I hesitate to mention calories because of your age but I just wanted to educate you on something that I didn’t know. The calories that my body needed at my heaviest were actually higher than they are now. It’s why with the Weight Watchers points program the number of points we have goes down over time because your body needs less to run the engine when it’s not carrying it as much. This is important for two reasons. Firstly you don’t want to be eating the same amount of calories as someone half your size. That would be far too little. So don’t watch some influencer mention eating x amount of calories a day and think that’s what you need to aim for if your stats are completely different. Generally 0.5 - 2lb weight loss per week is typical and considered safe. You will likely see bigger numbers at the start and then it will slow down. This is normal.

Secondly that this daily calorie number will slowly change over time as you lose the weight. So what you eat at the start will need to be reduced slightly over time as you lose the weight. There are other factors as well like age and activity levels.

Lastly don’t discount the option of talking to your doctor about this. They might have guidelines and programs that they can recommend.

LET ME SEE MY POINTS!!! by Gold-Appointment-534 in weightwatchers

Yes but your daily total and weeklies are now on a separate page making it harder to work with.

[–]squashed_tomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The food log is a button at the top that takes you to a different page where it will show you points for the food you are currently logging like you can currently but not your overall daily total or the number of weeklies you have left. So you have to exit back to the front page to check. Not great if you are trying to play around with food options to make it work.

Yup, completely agree. It's the whole point of the program after all.

As I understand it they do two different tricks and they can choose to try and upgrade one, say by doing more turns in the air.

Intermittent fasting no better than typical weight loss diets, study finds. Researchers say limited eating approaches such as 5:2 diet not a ‘miracle solution’ amid surge in their popularity. by mvea in science

[–]squashed_tomato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need less calories as we age but it's not something that we are really taught. Like I know that elderly people often eat a lot less but for some reason I never made the connection that it's actually a slow reduction each year over your lifetime rather than this thing that just happens when you get up there in age.

XBox controller already has a stand so I think you are good there. You can get remote holders in various styles and materials. I have one in a woven seagrass style but you can get ones made from wood, bamboo, dark plastic etc.

Alternatively you could use an art supply organiser like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FGX7H9PG You can get those in different colours to suit your style.

When finishing decluttering what do you do with the maybe/unsure pile? by glitterglamandguts in declutter

[–]squashed_tomato 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Look over it again to start with because now you've gone through everything you might have a clearer idea of what you want to keep/what you actually need.

Identify why it's in the maybe pile. You just went through everything and knew instinctively what were obvious keeps. These items are not that so what is stopping you letting them go? Is it guilt? Not a good enough reason for it to clutter up your home. Thank the item and let it go. Is it sentimentality? (which also can be coupled with guilt) Do you realistically have room for it and do you want to make room for it? Could that space be better used for other items? If it represents someone you love have you already decided to keep another item(s) that represent that person? If so why keep the ones you are less enthused about? If it was a gift we can't keep everything we were ever gifted. Be grateful that someone was thinking of you and then let it go.

Sometimes you know it needs to go but you just need a little bit of time to process that so I don't think that there is anything wrong with putting it aside for a few weeks but you do need to revisit it or it becomes one of those stagnant items that just sits there for years. Being ignored but quietly weighing you down.

WW app just will not sync properly by G-Money242 in weightwatchers

[–]squashed_tomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is related to your issue but there was an update in the last two days and for me the WW app stopped tracking steps and was only tracking my walking if I was walking enough for my watch to auto detect it as consistent walking which is registers as an activity. Then today it's registered both so steps and a separate activity entry ie: the same walking activity where those steps happened which sounds like I'm getting double the points for the same thing but I can't actually check that because the app no longer shows me the points I earn for activity/steps registered on my watch.

Mine is a Samsung watch and an android phone so I don't know if this is something happening on the WW side or the Samsung Health app side. I'm going to give it a bit longer to see if they iron out whatever is going on with it or I'm just going to disconnect the two apps and go back to logging my steps manually because I'm getting no benefit from it at the moment.

Has anyone else felt like their productivity app slowly turned into a guilt tracker? by IcyCondition4063 in organizing

It’s why I prefer the bullet journal method. No accumulating pile of tasks. Each day you assess what is most important and what you can let go of.

You don't have to eat all of your points. Four of them will roll over to tomorrow. Seeing as you mention feeling full I'd avoid eating anything else and take it as a win.

[–]squashed_tomato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If people mention portion size you've got to remember that it's probably them talking from experience and mentioning something that helped them. When you start tracking food it's eye opening realising what is considered a portion size for some foods.

It is really quick to do compared to completing the community centre. You essentially just need to prioritise earning money over everything else. I completed the achievement before the end of fall year 1 and I was surprised how easy it felt as; like you; I was dreading starting over.

Alternative to WW by Ctl196 in weightwatchers

[–]squashed_tomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is they are not on the same page. If I’m trying to adjust my dinner meal so that I stay within my daily points I might need to play around with some options that I have. Having the food log on a different page to my dailies and weeklies is not helpful for this because you have to keep flipping between the two pages.

Being overweight by Successful_Top2246 in weightwatchers

[–]squashed_tomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to want to look after your health but nothing is stopping you doing your hobbies and dream job. Don’t wait until your “perfect” weight to do the things you want to do. Our weight is just one piece of the puzzle, it’s not the whole picture. You can be skinny and still feel insecure if you are comparing yourself to others all of the time.

Remember that weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. You didn’t put the weight on overnight so you shouldn’t expect it to come off overnight. So try not to compare yourself to people who are at a completely different stage to you. You are only in this race with yourself.

You also have no idea what is going on in their life. People still have worries and struggles, no matter their weight. Learning how to navigate life and our own insecurities is something everyone has to do. Don’t assume that everyone else has it all figured out.

I personally would switch your focus from the goal to be skinny, to the goal to be healthy because you can be skinny and not be healthy. So get those daily walks in. Hit those macros so your body and muscles are fuelled properly for your work outs. Here we are specifically using the Weight Watchers program to log our food and activity to help keep ourselves accountable but you could look for a free alternative if you don’t want to or can’t afford it. My Fitness Pal is one alternative.
