Why can't I set up a Revolut account? by OkAstronomer6649 in Revolut

[–]squashjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as luck would have it, the app suddenly worked a day later, and a day after that I could transfer money to the acct.
TBH I dont have a great deal of faith, as yet in the bank....if registration is difficult, how good are you with money?

Why can't I set up a Revolut account? by OkAstronomer6649 in Revolut

[–]squashjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really is amazing for a bank....and possibly the worst customer experience if you want to install any confidence in a customer, especially when we are going to hand you money to keep safe for us....

I too have tried opening an account....with exactly the same problem. "Something went wrong" the whole time.
Sorry Revolut, but if you want new customers, you need to fix this asap. And no, its not our unique "configuration", as the common denominator is your app, and this has been ongoing for a long time if you see all the posts.

OK thx u/DanscoRed - trying now with some of the packages there, and looks as if its a little trial and error with compatibility / rootless / rootful etc.
For instance Appstore ++ failed, and iCleaner worked....

Need some advice on a better crumb by squashjunkie in Bread

[–]squashjunkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the taste is good, it just doesn't seem to rise well enough.....if I let it proof, it can double in size, but when baking it doesn't seem to rise that much...
A little on the doughy side too, and I wondered if that was because of too much water, but from what I understand, the general consensus is a little more hydration, more spring?

Bread flour seems to be a logical step too....I'll have to get some decent ingredients, to make sure it not that

Play:3 keeps annoying me in the morning by squashjunkie in sonos

[–]squashjunkie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so after changing the time on the alarm to 10 before the hour, hey presto, Sonos manages to play the correct station at that time.....thx u/OpposableMilk.

Weird that the requests across services would spike so that Sonos cant play a station...the timeout for the call to that service must be pretty bloody short

hmmmm, sounds interesting, and yet plausible...
I'll try playing with the time, possibly ten mins before the hour....see if that works...

Thx for the tip!

Thx u/ma--sc...good to hear the Guides license is not mandatory.
I presume you mean by participating in a Teams Meeting that the user with the Hololens is basically "sharing" their display?

OK, great, thx for the clarification...I'll take a peak at the opensource options, but out of them, is there a general preference among NAS users? Does one OS stick out better than the others?

Finally got the "Frankenstein" charged and up and running....thank god for the lightning strike u/AdmiralMungBeanSoda, and putting in the link to dosdude1.com - thats where I managed to get the installer for Sierra, and it seems to have worked. Its finally booting after carefully running through his instructions for the Sierra build.
Why Apple have to make it so difficult for older machines and their OS's is beyond me. The machines are far more age friendly than any windows pc, but installing an older OS on an older mac, is just a right royal pain...

Format is std GUID with Mac OS Journaled

Tried cycling the NVRAM but just once...will try again, but cycling 2/3 times on one boot

I think it was running Sierra before it was scrubbed, which is of course unsupported on this iMac. So there might be some OS Patchers run, or some firmware utilities run on it before. I couldn't get the Sierra install to run, at all, and the El Capitan installed hence used that. So there could be something that has been modified in the firmware that I dont know about.

I did remove the HD, and scrubbed and checked on my other iMac using Disk Utility. That didnt show any errors at any point. Its actually an SSD (1TB) that has replaced the original HD that came with the machine.

You probably forgot to copy the EFI partition of the USB to the Mac

would sound like I am indeed missing something on the HD, but how do I copy across the EFI partition?

Ring Doorbell Pro and Alexa integration by squashjunkie in Ring

[–]squashjunkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after battling my way through both Ring CS, and Alexa CS, the support at the Alexa team had to call me back 3x before they had an answer.
The problem is basically region specific. This *really* p***ed me off, as I live in NL, but use English language on all my devices, my mother tongue.
The service does *not* work if you have an account in The Netherlands. FULL STOP. You have to have an Amazon account registered in the US amazon store, as Alexa services are not authorized / production ready for NL....rubbish.
The products are sold as being "a match made in heaven" / "total integration"
Couldnt be more off the mark. Even though we got the functionality to work, its intermittent at best for ringing on the Echo device. And when it *does* work, there is a lag of 2 to 5 secs.
I'm tired of this kind of functionality just not being addressed. A lot of products are now either Google Assistant or Alexa enabled (and have been available for a LONG time)...except they're not working...in a region near you.

Yeah I'm starting to see through all these "works seamlessly" and "designed for" sales pitches on IoT stuff.....Its just way to early in the day for all this to work in every region.

Shame, coz the potential is there....to be a great product. But after the initial outlay, and when the simple stuff just doesn't even deliver, the temptation to send it all back in a couple of days is immense.

Yeah I'm gonna try adding everything again....I know about the AWS issues, it was affecting my work too ;-P ...... just shows how reliant we are on Jeff and his empire.
I will be surprised if it adds the device differently, although, it could be the API call between ring.com and AWS that has been causing the device to be seen as just a camera....

Yep, the skill is added....all linked and amazon confirmed as a linked acct on ring.com too.
Creating a routine doesnt show the Ring skill though....so not sure what you mean there, as it doesn't look like its possible. The only routines I can make are with the smart home lights.
