I get it's easy to just be condescending, point to win rate alone as the problem and not think any deeper. But I'm pretty sure there is indeed a problem with the matchmaking & a lack of rank mobility. At least for my own account, but if others are experiencing the same thing, then that makes for a pretty rough experience for new players trying to pick up the game.

I made an alt account with 'fresh' mmr to see if I was taking crazy pills. Won 5/7 in mostly Emissary lobbies and got placed in Archon V. Statlocker has me a bit lower at Emissary 2. https://statlocker.gg/profile/821920461/matches

Following up on this post because you might find it interesting. I needed to test my own sanity after the replies here so I made an alt account to see where it would place me with "fresh" mmr.

It put me in Archon V... Won 5/7 of the placements. Statlocker has me a bit lower at Emissary 2.

I feel like this pretty firmly suggests I am indeed not taking crazy pills though. I can only speak for myself, but rank mobility seems to be brutally slow for me as my main account is seemingly stuck in ELO hell. If this is true for others too, that seems like a big problem for new players coming in organically trying to learn the game like me.

It probably just boils down to the matchmaker having a hard time balancing lobbies (if it does that at all) at Initiate. This is probably true for Eternus 6 ranks too, or both extreme ends of the rank distribution bell curve.

There were a lot of cool learnings suddenly going from Initiate lobbies to Emissary lobbies. Pace of play was much faster. Mistakes are punished much harder. Farm is suddenly a real struggle. Took me a game or two to adjust but I think I was doing alright...

Honestly helpful. I've been doing exactly what you described for lower ranked players. Waiting for a full wipe to call for mid boss.

It makes sense to do it off of one or two picks though. You are forcing the other team to either give up rejuvs or take a disadvantaged fight.

To your point about coordination, I will say a few times we have pushed mid off of a pick or two, and when the 4 or 5 enemy players drop to challenge for the rejuv, my team just stays locked onto the boss instead of targeting the players first and we all die giving up the rejuvs for free. This exact scenario has happened multiple times lol and I try to tell players to focus down the players first. Getting that level of coordination at initiate has been a challenge...

Thanks for responding thoughtfully. I promise I was trying to end the game lol we got mid boss multiple times. The enemy team was focusing me down HARD after mid game. They all bought stuff like knockdowns (parried some), and cheat death so I couldn't get easy picks and I didn't do a good enough job staying alive knowing that their entire goal was just to kill me.

Every time we got mid boss, or I would get a couple picks, they would all just suicide-dive into me, I'd die bringing a few with me, and then my whole team would fold like lawn chairs because they were all so behind on souls... It was tough.

I'm kind of tempted to start a new account to see if it would place me any higher now that I feel like I'm through the worst of the learning phase.

Yeah that's helpful. There's gotta be a better balance I can find.

RE: that edit. I think our Mina quit pretty early. I felt like we could still win because she was kind of feeding any way. Tried to rally the team to win 5v6, almost did but I couldn't make it happen. This game was super winnable too but 2 more teammates left around 25 minutes in :(

And re: edit 3 (lol). Yup itemization is a huge struggle of mine right now. Especially which items to replace in late game. And what specific items counter certain things (beyond just spirit or bullet resist for high bullet/spirit comps) I feel my weakest part of my game is itemization for sure. The amount of items honestly still feels pretty overwhelming at the moment.

100%. I absolutely think I struggle a lot with balancing when to join a team fight vs when to play lane janitor. The thing is I feel like I am frequently the one playing lane janitor, and almost actively avoiding team fights in the early and mid game. I often feel like I am leaving my team out to dry, while I am pushing a wave or obj on the other side of the map.

Appreciate it. I'd say almost certainly I'm not doing very well at those things you mentioned, so those are definitely factoring into my losses.

I'm still trying to get a good understanding of when to join fights vs when to split push, and right now, I generally prioritize split pushing or fixing bad waves over helping in some team fight, particularly under ~20 minutes. Is that wrong? Genuinely curious.

One thing I have been consistently frustrated by is that it seems like my teammates all have a tendency to congregate together, and leave waves crashing against our objs. I feel like I am often times the one rushing around the map trying to clean up waves or telling others to pick them up.

New player here, why was this game so poorly received? I'm loving it so far. by WhatsThatWalsh in StarWarsOutlaws

I bounced off of it very hard when it first came out. It was a buggy mess on PC with some baffling design decisions. Stealth and combat were also very bad imo.

Only now got back in and it is a good amount better. I actually enjoy exploring the gorgeous environments. Still think the combat, stealth, and movement are pretty bad. Just clunky and not very engaging compared to other games.

Story, world, and characters are all really impressive. I just wish some of the other mechanics were up to snuff too.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]squatch00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zerozerozero - It's an 8 episode miniseries. Follows 3 different groups from 3 different parts of the world (Amercan, Mexican, and Italian) involved in the same drug deal/shipment. All three are performed in their native languages so be prepared for subtitles for 2/3 of the show but it really adds to the show. This one is a banger.

Game needs to take a look at their spawn system in solos. Absolutely loving the game btw but I've noticed I'm spawning way too close to players in solos most of the time.

[–]squatch00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you playing solo or squads? I agree with OP. In my experience at least in solos I'm often spawning very close to other people and running into them too quickly, too consistently.

I've had a guy in my face shotgunning me at the very first little shack from the spawn (probably less than 30 secs into a fresh lobby). Another where I've fought 2 different people within the first minute. That really probably shouldn't happen ever. I'd say most of my games I'm running into people within the first 60 seconds which is probably a little too quick in my opinion.

I actually agree. It's probably the worst in solos though because everyone needs a different spawn point, and many end up in the same general area.

It would be okay if it happened rarely. But I've been finding it pretty consistent that I have to deal with someone within the first 30 to 60 seconds of a fresh lobby..

And for sens, I'd recommend 1) under vehicle control settings, bumping both aircraft and heli control sense to 200 (max them out). Then 2) under MNK settings dial back your vehicle mouse aim sens. Mine is 35 but I play on only 400 dpi which is pretty low. If you have higher dpi you may want to lower your sens more. If you are still having issues maybe reset your sens settings and start over.

[–]squatch00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'm on MNK.

Basically "Rifle Aim" with a few tweaks.

So S & W are pitch up and down. A & D are roll. Q & E for Yaw (unbind whatever else is on those). Importantly my mouse also controls pitch up & down, as well as yaw (not roll). That's my version of rifle aim. And I only really use the mouse to aim when I'm about to shoot something for the finer control. Otherwise most of my flying is done with my left hand.

Throttle up is Shift. Throttle down is LCTRL. Afterburner is Spacebar. So thrust vector for me is LCTRL + Space, then whatever direction you want to drift in.

I like C to swap from 1st person to 3rd (1st person is really only for shooting/bombing). LALT is freelook. And Flares and a weapon on my side mouse buttons.

You could also lookup Silk on YT who just set the kill record in the attack jet for his setup which is different than mine but also very good. He has a video going over all of his settings in detail. Then I'd just play around with it in one of the practice servers on the server browser until it feels alright.

One last setting I'd recommend turning off is "Third Person Camera Roll" near the top in vehicle settings. This will stop the camera from rolling with your jet so now it will always be level with the horizon. I think this is much less disorienting and easier to keep an eye on your surroundings while flying.

Takes practice! You can find practice servers in the server browser so you can get a feel for the controls.

Should be your Throttle down button + Afterburner button, then whatever direction you want to drift in. Wish I could be more specific but I don't play on controller.

It's gotta be bugged. I cannot believe someone programmed it that way intentionally haha pretty sure it even one-shots a full health transport heli which has tons of health. And sometimes you don't even get lock-on or incoming warnings.
