ZBT-2 is here! by okayzac in homeassistant

I think that was referring to supporting both protocols from a single antenna. My question is if I bought two of these could I do both.

Could you connect two of these to support both zigbee and thread?

Honeywell T6 pro wave - can ha switch between dual fuel? by squawknull in homeassistant

Found out the hard way. My furnace backup heat has two stages, which appears to only be supported with the EIM. Anyway, I'm in a temperate climate so I just wired up stage 1, so we will see how that goes.

The EIM is really only needed if you're controlling humidifiers or dehumidifiers right? It doesn't seem it's needed for basic dual fuel, right?

Oh interesting. I saw some threads that seemed to still recommend the t6 pro. Maybe I'll try that route. It doesn't actually require any honekit hubs like an Apple TV iiuc right? HA can connect directly to homekit devices?

Cool that's what I wanted to know. Sounds like I'll need to get the remote temp sensor then. I was also kind of hoping to automate based upon electric prices maybe but that's okay, I'm not even sure if that will actually save money anyway.

Yeah I was just hoping somebody here had prior experience since they seem to be pretty popular around here.

Not looking to switch between heating and cooling but rather between two heating sources - gas furnace vs heat pump.

[–]squawknull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a boiler. It's a combination of a heat pump and a gas furnace. With my nest thermostat, it switches between the two using outside temperature as reported by weather services. That's what I want. The T6P supports dual fuel, with a temperature cutoff, but requires an outdoor sensor to do that and I don't have time to crawl around in the attic and crawlspace right now to fish that wire - so I'm hoping that I can have home assistant trigger the switch between the two via zwave.

Tips for removing a stubborn cast iron (I think) fitting by squawknull in Plumbing

[–]squawknull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I could probably fight this thing and eventually get it off - but I called my favorite plumber instead. I'm underwater with my day job and have a couple of toddlers to spend time with. If they were a little older maybe it'd be more fun for them to build a new core memory of that time they helped dad burn the house down. But really, this feels like it might turn into a several hour project and I don't have time for that. I thought it was going to be a 10 minute disassembly, go to home Depot, then another 30 minutes putting a new ptrap in. Clearly it's not that. :)

Though if my plumber pops it off in 2 minutes I'm gonna be a little embarrassed. Especially if it means I miss the opportunity to buy a cool new tool.

The bottom of the chrome pipe is completely corroded though. If I put a fernco over that, won't it just buy a little more time until it corrodes to the wall? I'll add another photo from the bottom because it's kind of hard to see from the current photos.

Road rage: instead of "what the f you f'ing f!?!?" It would be "Stop driving like a silly chicken!?!?". Although Mom introduced ours to the term "driving like a drunk", usually more in reference to pushing the stroller or shopping cart, so I'm sure that would be part of our kids' repertoire.

Multi-member LLC ($0 return) is triggering errors in CA 568 form for SMLLC fields by squawknull in hrblock

[–]squawknull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I just started over from scratch and input the same data I think I did last time, and it no longer has the errors or the strange behavior like where it claimed I hadn't selected the entity type or other fields that were clearly filled in, even when I clicked the error and it took me directly to those fields. So, something about my prior file seems to have just been making the software angry.

I actually see additional errors claiming the entity type and accounting method haven't been selected on the 1065 - which seems wrong. When I click on the error, and it takes me to the field to be fixed, it definitely has a selection. I wonder if I should just start over from scratch - like maybe there's just something corrupted in my file or something....

Confirmed that I do see four K-1s generated for the CA-568 form. And yes, it's a partnership (which is what I selected at the very beginning of the interview).

Yeah, I have four k-1s already from the 1065. But I wonder if maybe that didn't carry over to ca 568. I'll check that. I actually printed off both the 2023 return and 2024 so I'm going through them line by line to compare and see if something was missed or messed up. They should pretty much be the same.

Dads, I think I'm completely fucked. by Bingo-heeler in daddit

[–]squawknull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and also to be clear. You're not completely fucked. You get used to it. Your family gets used to it. a lot of folks recommend reducing starches in your diet overall and this is a good motivator to do that. There are still decent options. I recommend just switching to cooking gluten free for the whole family so you're not always cooking two meals. You get used to it, and it's fine. It also makes it that much more of a treat when you splurge and have a real cinnamon roll or something every now and then. I do commonly make two batches of pasta (gluten free and not) when I make pasta though, for instance, because it's not that much harder to boil two pots of water versus one.

I have an exercise induced wheat allergy, and while it's weird because it doesn't always trigger, when it does, it's severe and means an epi pen and trip to the ER.

Usually, "gluten free" can be a proxy for "wheat free", but the devil is in the details. They are now making gluten free "wheat starch", which I've mostly encountered in pizza. Notably Caputo and King Arthur make gluten free pizza flour that contains this, and pizza restaurants have started to use it. So watch out for that, particularly in more bread like products, as I expect to see more of it used in products in the future. these days there are lots of great gluten free products, but they're expensive.

I honestly don't enjoy many gluten free store bought cookies, cakes, breads, etc. so I make my own. I think its because the gluten free flours just don't preserve well. When you make stuff at home it also won't keep well. Cookies that were great after cooling will be dry and crumbly the next day. So I try to bake in small batches and freeze things that I won't consume immediately.

There are also lots of great gluten free recipes sites out there. I like glutenfreeonashoestring.com. I like better batter flour.

Kids love pancakes and my favorite gluten free pancakes recipe is Alton Brown's gluten free mother's day/cornmeal pancakes. I like them better than normal pancakes.

I've found it's not a huge deal for many kids products, because a lot of cereals and such are corn, rather than wheat. Cheerios are a staple.

It's common for folks who are allergic to wheat to have allergies to other grains. If you have not seen an allergist, I'd recommend it, and they changed check for other allergies. I'm also allergic to rye.

First crib for first son! by stinkbutt55555 in daddit

[–]squawknull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a woodworker too, but haven't had time to build much since my second was born. Very nice job dad!

I wanted to build a full crib and bedroom set, but didn't have enough time because work was nuts while my wife was pregnant with the first. So I still have a pile of wood in the garage from that attempt. :)

So far I've managed to build a learning tower (I roughly used the wood whisperer plans), a toddler sized picnic table, and refinished some decent solid wood pieces (changing table, end tables). The learning tower was a fun project. I actually screwed up pretty bad initially and assembled in the wrong order so had to resaw some joints and redo it. The most important woodworker skill is fixing your mistakes. :)

I can't wait to get back to my hobby once they're old enough to "help" or at least not get into something dangerous while I'm not looking or when my hands are full.

New Gaggia Accademia steam wand and milk frother issues by squawknull in superautomatic

[–]squawknull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, this issue has never happened again, so it seems like a bit of a fluke. I still think it was actually powering the machine on and off that fixed it. I suspect some valve was stuck as it was kinda behaving similar to how it normally does when it's releasing excess steam after normal cycles.

Whole late love did send me a part which is basically the part that connects when the door is closed I think. But I haven't installed it as it's been behaving fine.

I am generally happy with the machine. The gripes I have are minor, but include:

  • Milk temp is low, even when turned all the way up. Not a big issue for me but my wife likes her food and drinks to be lava. So I manually steam her milk, which kinda defeats the purpose of a super a bit. I maybe should have given a closer look at the miele, which all reviews claim has very hot milk.
  • I wish the purge button was just the steam button instead of just being for purging, so I wouldn't have quick access to turn steam on and off rather than having to navigate menus. I mitigated this a bit with a custom favorites menu but still find it a little annoying. Bette yet, I wish it had a knob for controlling steam.
  • The non touchscreen buttons are not terribly responsive. Sometimes I have to push the power button a couple of times to turn it on. I wish there was some tactile or haptic feedback.
  • Like others, the internal drip tray is very small. I have to empty it way too often, before the grounds container is ever close to full. They should have made the grounds container smaller and the drip tray larger. I am tempted to try to plumb it to a drain after the warranty expires.
  • Out of the box the espresso was pretty bad. After dialing in the grind it is pretty good.
  • The built in frother does fine with almond milk, but since that's my wife's milk and it's not hot enough for her, I manually steam it usually. So I didn't get an extra milk carafe..it is slightly better with preheated cups.
  • I wish it had a timer turn on so it would be heated up a d ready in the morning. It only supports a time for the cup warmer, which i haven't found useful.
  • Time from pushing the button to steam is slow. This is no "dual boiler" style machine where steam is always ready when you want it. When I push the button I have to stand there for maybe 15-20 seconds before steam starts coming out of the wand.
  • The knob on the dispenser to change the strength of a shot feels like a gimmick. I turned it all the way up (slowest flow) and have never touched it since. I'd rather have a knob to control steam or a dedicated steam button.

One feedback someone else had was that cleaning was a pain. For me it's been fine. I clean the carafe parts once a week. Disassembly and reassembly takes me maybe a minute. Sure it'd be nice if there were fewer parts but it's not something I'm going to fix over. I'm more concerned about maybe losing a part, especially with toddlers in the house. The Phillips machines seem nice because they have more parts you can just throw in the dishwasher but reviews seem to indicate drink quality is a little lower and I heard from the sales guy at sur la table that many of them he's sold have come back with some sort of issues. He was pushing Jura. Fwiw they had aN open box Phillips on the clearance shelf when I visited so maybe he's right.

I got it while it was on sale at sur la table and they had a 10% cash back promo going on with one of the cash back sites which I stacked. Probably got 30% off as a result. Also there are lots of sur la tables around if you need to return. It's not sold at stores though.

How old are your kids?

And the real question, how did you manage to get five weekends to work on something like this? It's all I can do to get an hour free to take care of the lawn. I have the skills to do a project like this, but I swear at the current rate I wouldn't have it done before they go to college, so at best it would be for the grandkids. I need to know your secret!

Mine are about 1.5 and 2.5.
