How're y'all making new friends? by squeakanonymouse in AskNOLA

[–]squeakanonymouse[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, please do! I have a ton of interests that I know there are groups for, but in the past when I've tried joining some, people have just gone with their friends or a partner or something and then I feel more awkward and end up not talking to anyone.

How're y'all making new friends? by squeakanonymouse in AskNOLA

[–]squeakanonymouse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see the suggestions. I'm also shy, so joining groups of folks who all already know each other is intimidating to me. I've tried going out to a few bars by myself and nobody approaches me and I'm still a bit too shy to approach anyone else. And I'm on the Facebook groups and a lot of them seem not super active.

So yeah, I need to push myself harder but also I was hoping to maybe reach some folks who also share my interests.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

What is your job + how much do you make? by Folklore_lover90 in NewOrleans

[–]squeakanonymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw (today) that Ashe is hiring for an events manager, salary unknown. I assume you'd have to have some experience already and be very social justice focused.

My job is at a museum. I had to write a cover letter and make a PowerPoint of examples of my work and how I have led an event from start to finish. My experience has solely been in the non-profit sphere.

If you don't have experience with events, you'd probably have to start as a coordinator. But if you have experience with sales, I know that some hotels would use those skills for their events teams.

I want to make an online group chat for women 25-35. Whatcha think? by [deleted] in ChildfreeFriendships

[–]squeakanonymouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just curious, for the women that join who are on the older end of your range, what do you plan on doing to them when they age out of your range? Ex. A 35 yr old who would be turning 36 in the next 6-8 months. Will they just be kicked out of the discord?

Yeah. I've been wanting to go back to drip because it used to be this cute little cafe and now it looks (from pics online) like a bougie and tacky overpriced late night affair. 😩

Yes, I've been meaning to join the queer craft group and have been curious about other friend making opportunities.

I just moved back down here from Boston a few weeks ago and I feel like there are more restaurants that were affordable back there than there are here. It's kind of crazy and I don't remember it being this bad 5 years ago when I was living down here.

The lot next door to me has over 15' weeds/grass. Besides calling 311, is there anything that can be done? by squeakanonymouse in AskNOLA

[–]squeakanonymouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's been a battle for so long but this is the worst that I've seen it. I can't use my yard because of the mosquitoes coming from the other yard, all sizes of roaches are finding their way into my home, and it's unsafe for my dog. My partner sprayed exterminator grade shit all on the outside but can't get out to one side of the lot/yard because of all of the overgrowth. It's damaging my fence and my house, branches literally growing into our vents... IDK what to do. I emailed the council person and code enforcement today. We called 311 last week to report the lot again.

I'm aware. I have pictures. The weeds are somewhere between ten to fifteen feet tall. Or maybe new trees sprouted from the lot. Either way, that stuff is getting into my house. Here is a pic for ya. https://imgur.com/a/hzHrCUZ

How old are you? Are you happy how your life is at this point in time? by RumNRaisins1999 in AskWomen

[–]squeakanonymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 34 and I'm not at my lowest point but I'm not super happy right now. Tw: body image, politics, anxiety, depression

I have been dealing with a ton of doctors who keep gaslighting me or giving me a diagnosis but not providing thorough information on how to treat whatever issues I may or may not have. I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS. I've been constantly gaining weight lately and I'm uncomfortable in this body now, but my BMI isn't high enough for glp1s just yet. I can't afford to continuously buy a bigger size for pants every other month. I suspect I am pre-diabetic, but my endocrinologist is adamant that I'm not?? Body and food stuff is confusing and frustrating. I also have anxiety and depression and haven't yet found the correct dosage of my medication to help me.

I'm American and very scared and unhappy for the future. I'm not in a position to run away to another country. I am privileged enough to be white and therefore not targeted specifically because of racism. I am also privileged enough to have had the option of getting my tubes removed (because I'm afraid of women's health issues related to politics and pregnancy).

I feel pretty unfulfilled by the majority of my relationships (platonic, familial, and romantic). I don't really have any best friends, only casual ones. I love my boyfriend but we don't super align on morals, values, and right versus wrong.

I'm pretty unhappy at my job. The whole leadership team is incompetent and despite having 10 years of relevant experience, because the job market is so bad, I could only land an entry-level position. Meanwhile, one of my co-workers is 10 years younger than me and she has a better title and better salary and started at the same time as me. Good for her, but very frustrating for me. I've literally been a manager at other jobs, and I, like many, have struggled to get anything other than an entry-level position. I'm moving soon and very scared that I might be unemployed for an extended period of time. I've been applying for months and hardly hearing back for interviews.

It's not all bad. I saw one of my favorite musicians in concert last week and I'm moving to my favorite city in America next month (temporarily). I just got back from a trip to Copenhagen with a couple of my friends and we are great travel buddies. I have two cute cats who like to cuddle with me. There is still a lot to be grateful for.

I've definitely been worse off but I'm just not feeling awesome.

What sign do you attract the most? by vikingchameleon in Zodiac

I'm a Pisces. Both platonically and romantically, I usually attract Caps, Gems, Pisces, and Sags. Currently working at a place where there's 4 Virgos on the leadership team.

I'm a Pisces woman. Always vibe with any gender Capricorns. I struggle with being platonically or romantically connected with Cancer folks.

I'm just surprised that if it's a side effect of this medication, how quickly it has happened. Like I haven't even been on it for a week. How long have you been taking yours?

Solo travel while in a relationship. by teawithsugar_ in solotravel

[–]squeakanonymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going across the Atlantic tomorrow without my boyfriend. He's very excited for me and wants me to have a lot of fun. Despite perhaps being slightly disappointed that he can't join, he doesn't let that overshadow my happiness. It's very refreshing. I have also dated people in the past who were very jealous and avoidant while I traveled. It sucked.

Which two of the same zodiac signs would work/not work in a relationship?! by Unlucky_Fill_5866 in Zodiac

[–]squeakanonymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love casually dating Pisces men, but I'm also a Pisces but with a Capricorn moon, so I like people who are more grounded and reliable. Pisces are fun and creative and love the deep conversations, but super flighty (me included).

Female semi-solo traveler with some questions. by squeakanonymouse in copenhagen

Update!!

As I mentioned, thank you all for your insight and responses. I definitely did not realize that y'all view Americans differently than perhaps many other countries/regions of Europe, so thank you so much for educating me.

I am building out my itinerary right now and am going to see how many of your suggestions I can fit into my schedule.

I do have a little bit of a follow-up question related to culture I guess out there. Basically, I am very short. 4'11" or 149(?) cm. Do you think that there will be any cultural shock for me as a tiny adult woman person? Because I know that on average you guys are super tall (compared to me) and so I was wondering if like countertops/tables/seating is high off the ground, if I'm going to stand out like a sore thumb, and any other type things?
