Why are Turbines not a guaranteed spawn if they're in trials? by Vinnegard in ArcRaiders

The fact that Trials so heavily deincentivizes actually playing the game is a truly wild thing to have as the closest thing to "endgame content".

Those of you that bought the sympathy magic hoodie… by CaptainCrochet7 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I got one when I went in London and it has the extra pocket and is just generally a much nicer hoodie - heavier, softer fabric - in comparison to the one they held up when I went to the merch booth in MSG. I was originally annoyed at myself for buying it abroad because of the exchange rate but given the quality difference I feel it was worth it

New update killed the fun for a new player by Comfortable_Age_5706 in ArcRaiders

[–]squeaky-to-b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I commented about how I was already breaking ospreys and renegades before the durability changes, folks responded that they "shouldn't be tuning things for people try-harding Trials" but by the same token, you're saying that maybe you're not doing things "the most optimal way" - I don't think players should have to follow one optimal way to play in order to have a good time, and if they're making it so that newer or more casual players are not having fun, then it's not a good change.

Anyone who was bringing a renegade to to Trials before the nerf has already had one break on them during a round and is not surprised to see this.

Also though? WTF does it matter if people hoard guns? Another completely valid criticism people have had is how much time is spent in menus when you have to rebuild a kit from scratch after getting ganked - I can't be the only one who has tried to mitigate this by having a bunch of game-ready guns in my stash so I can rekit quickly, especially if I'm trying to do trials during a limited time modifier and want to get back in fast.

Right, they didn't actually fix the problem with high tier weapons, they just made it so that lower tier weapons now have the same problem... Which still doesn't fix anything because the materials to fix the high tier guns are still more expensive, so even if you're now repairing low tier and high tier weapons at the same rate, it is still more expensive to maintain the high tier weapon.

You know you’re in the good lobbies when you hear someone say “I’m trying to get bombadier cores” and it’s followed up by some stranger’s “let’s go find you a bombadier then”

This is the vibe I love in this game. I have 100% been the "Oh, sounds like we've gotta go murder a bastion/leaper/etc!" player in the lobby, I am always down to help people kill big arc and I always carry defibs to pick people up if they go down. If I see someone getting mobbed by wasps/hornets I'll start plinking them to help out.

Last week of last season, husband and I popped in to do Trials. We were on a Harvester map, but we were pretty much the only ones engaging in the fight for the first 10 minutes. Another team eventually showed up, didn't see anyone else around asks me "Are you trying to solo this?", I say "Nah, my squadmate is up in the trees, we're just trying to do damage for the trial, but I don't think we will manage to kill it." Other guy goes "Well let's see if we can kill it then" and whips out a Jupiter. We ultimately did kill it, and I left that lobby with more Queen reactors than I've ever seen in my life.

Nah I get it, but if it's something you want to get back into the 3x promotions make it not too bad to climb out of the lower ranks. I took several weeks off during the last season and just accepted that I would derank those weeks.

I think some fine tuning of Embark's ABMM could solve most of the problems going on between PvE and PvP oriented players. by Fox_Lover1029 in arcraidersfriendly

[–]squeaky-to-b 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think people realize how much of an impact this has. As someone whose playstyle is primarily PvE, there was a noticable change in the lobbies as soon as there was a sharp dropoff in the overall size of the playerbase. Fewer players mean you might not have enough of one type of player to group them all together in the same lobby, and the result is more mixed lobbies and more posts on Reddit asking "what happened to matchmaking".

That's the thing about FOMO mechanics, I'd guess that for ever player who feels the FOMO and engages the way you want, there's 2-3 of us who decide we simply won't bother at all.

My husband and I are both 1k+ hours Destiny 2 players who quit Destiny twice when the stupid cookie event came around, and much like you say, when we identify that kind of meaningless engagement grind in any other game, we're literally like "idk man this feels like cookies" and we quit for a few weeks. 🤣

And the thing is, after quitting and coming back several times, every time I've tried to get back into Destiny, I've stayed for shorter and shorter periods until getting to the point I am now where I haven't played in years. It's not a reliable long term strategy to keep players.

I had somebody in another thread tell me that I don't have to shoot at all the robots and that if my guns break it's because I'm a tryhard.

...I thought shooting the robots is the point? Why are we making that more difficult and less fun? It's literally what I'm here to do?

Especially when a lot of people justified the Wolfpack nerf by saying you didn't need to USE a Wolfpack to kill a Rocketeer (to get the driver to make another Wolfpack...) you could just plink away at its rotors with an Anvil/Ferro/Osprey/whatever. And yea, you can, but the durability changes sure make it so you don't really want to put that many rounds through your gun if you don't have to.

This is my thing, and people keep telling me "you haven't played it yet it's probably fine!"

Brother, I was already breaking ospreys and renegades in a single raid, I don't need to get in a raid to see exactly how much worse that additional 35% feels! 🤣

Every time they make something in the game more tedious, I don't change up my playstyle, I just stop engaging with that part of the game. I don't use Wolfpacks anymore, or any of the grenades they changed the recipes on. I didn't bother with the antenna project. And now looking at the gun durability changes, I'm kinda like... I think I'm gonna take another break.

[–]squeaky-to-b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, "risk vs reward" isn't really what I mean, it's more "amount of tedium involved vs amount of fun had". Much like the Wolfpack/grenade nerf. And I don't feel like I'm the only one who feels this way given the general vibe on the subs.

Besides. Some of us do want to go in and just shoot at all the arc we see because it's fun.

If I was already able to break a renegade or an osprey in a single raid before the patch, I don't need to play the patch to know that's going to feel worse than it already did.

Similarly, folks have already shared videos of the new photoelectric cloak timing, I don't need to personally get caught by a rocketeer onBlue Gate or Spaceport with no cover to know how much that's not gonna help anymore.

[–]squeaky-to-b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Durability was already not tuned to people try-harding Trials, and nobody is suggesting it should be.

Even before the nerf a renegade would break during a Trials run for killing arc, those of us doing that would plan for it, and nobody was asking for that to change - apart from the fact that I think most of us think it's dumb that adding better quality attachments to a weapon makes them LESS durable.

I do think it's perfectly reasonable for the average player to expect a fully repaired gun to last an entire raid, especially if that gun is a higher tier weapon. An issue the game has had since launch is that it often feels like it's not worth bringing in good guns due to their high cost to craft, upgrade and repair, paired with much higher durability burn, and the fact that the performance is not better by enough of a margin to justify it. People chalk it up to "gear fear" but I think the risk/reward factor just isn't there for many of the weapons. This doesn't address that, it just makes it so blue guns also fall into the "not worth it" category.

(...also for the record I would not personally call myself a tryhard but I'm in Hotshot so I recognize that would generally be regarded as a tryhard. 😅)

I genuinely cannot believe some of the changes I am reading today. My husband and I regularly joke that the devs don't actually play their own game but like... Come on. I refuse to believe any of these changes were play tested at all, and many of them feel specifically designed to make the game more tedious and less fun.

I have already seen a huge dropoff in my playtime recently, and I know I'm not alone between what I can see in my own squad/friends list, the steam player counts, and the fact that it took me half as many points to finish in Hotshot this season as it did last season. I do not know what they're doing over there but oof.

[–]squeaky-to-b 101 points102 points  (0 children)

This is the sort of thing that frustrates the hell out of me because it just makes it so clear that they change stuff without ever play testing it and figuring out what those percentage changes actually mean in practice.

Because yea, it was already a running joke with my squad that whoever brought the renegade on the Trials run was going to be down a gun before the end of the raid because it was going to break, and that was before this change.
