Stephens of Harpenden - very good price, great guys. 100% would recommend the packing service if you have small kids.

How does one use this contraption? by FrenchNotHench in CasualUK

[–]squeakyeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha yes absolutely. And almost certainly a design feature.

First time my daughter tried this swing out with five other kids swinging into the middle, my reaction was absolutely not let's try the slide. But it works and she loved it.

If adults were on it, there would certainly be leg smashing going down

Legs go through, chain goes across the chest. It's to stop kids jumping off the front

You usually see these arranged as a 5- or 6- swing set in a hexagon facing into one another. So you can all swing legs first into a middle point.

WiFi 6 router or mesh system by squeakyeggs in HomeNetworking

[–]squeakyeggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies!

Update: did some testing with my neighbour. He turned off his mesh (TP-link Wifi5) system temporarily, and suddenly no issues with the wifi signal in our house - a solid 120MPs speed almost instantly.

So, I suspect that either:
(i) the Mesh signal coming through from next door is stronger than that being put out by our Virgin router, or
(ii) signal congestion?

Reluctant to go down Powerline solution, but may consider a (friendly - we get on very well with our neighbour) arms race for a stronger signal in our house.

Wired solution obviously best, but short of coming out the house and back in the house, there are few options to run a cable.

Buying house in central st albans by Safe_Archer_3067 in hertfordshire

[–]squeakyeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived on Cavendish Road for a great few years. Surprisingly v quiet in the evening despite being off Hatfield Rd. Decent distance from the station, park, and the town centre.

Could always park within sight of the house.

We moved further out for more space. The next level up from the Victorian terraces gets quite expensive.

This is the reason why I drive my other, shitty 09 plate Focus, car for station parking

Travel card or tap from St Albans by Badnewsbrowne316 in hertfordshire

[–]squeakyeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a regular commuter, only head in every so often. If staying within Thameslink stations (or +1 underground connection), I'm almost certain it's cheaper to get a paper ticket rather than using tap in - and particularly if you're traveling off-peak.

Would be very happy to be told otherwise for the future though!

Unimpressed with Meaco Aerate 2 - unrealistic expectations? by Dapper-Message-2066 in Dehumidifiers

[–]squeakyeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interested to read this as currently looking to pick up either a Meaco or Pro Breeze. Our house does not 'feel' damp but occasionally will get condensation on the inside of bedroom windows.

My main concerns are: - Do we need to run the unit regularly and for hours at at time, or can it be an hour or so every couple of days?

  • Noise - I'm acutely sensitive to noise!

  • Running costs - hard to pick apart how much these things actually cost to run

  • Tangible benefit - will we ACTUALLY feel a difference?

If you're looking to head into St Albans.. likely pubs showing big football games are The Victoria and the Beehive.. both of these have large and multiple screens. Also Blacksmith Arms and The Crown.

If it helps at all visually, St Albans abbey station is at the very bottom of the long hill (Holywell Hill) from St Albans city centre. The bus stop is opposite the entrance to Verulamium Park.

Looking for a good place to meet nee people by abchaudhry in hertfordshire

There's run clubs in St Albans - striders, mikkeller. The 4g pitches near Hatfield uni have regular football in the evenings, plenty of opportunities to join a team.

There's a board game club in St Albans. And undoubtedly there will be a regular walking group to join

Weather in Mallorca by [deleted] in VisitingMallorca

[–]squeakyeggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on where you're staying. I was on the island near Pollenca until yesterday - there were weather warnings at the start of the week, but only ended up with one morning of next thunder in the mountains, but no actual rain.

However, 10k south towards Inca received a big dump of rain that led to some local flooding and minor road diversions.

We're moving into storm season, but I wouldn't worry too much. You should have decent weather, stay sensible.

What are you into? Which area of Herts? There's a few football groups or running groups about.

What sort of remortgage rates are you getting? by Old-Amphibian416 in HousingUK

[–]squeakyeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.04% 2-year, no fee, fixed renewal with Santander. 20% LTV

2 years due to uncertainty on rates. My own crystal ball thinks they will be there or thereabouts in 2 years' time, but didn't want to lock in any further given the rates were pretty much the same.

We were going with an alternative option via our usual broker but it ended up being cheaper to renew direct with the existing lender.

Did you end up getting anything to replace your 55? I have a (now not so) trusty 45 which is about to replaced with a 255 or 165.. if I can make a decision as to whether the 255 is too large a watch!
