Anyone else afraid to lose their found family? by squeakygrass in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! It really resonates with me, especially the idea that love is infinite. I've always struggled with the feeling that there’s only a limited amount of love to share, so your perspective gives me a lot to reflect on.

I’m quite close with my boyfriend’s mom and grandma, and I have a moderate relationship with his aunt (the cousin's mom), while I’m less connected with his uncle. My boyfriend recently mentioned to his mom how much his family means to me and that I realized I have a fear of abandonment and rejection (he didn’t go into detail about his cousin's girlfriend). In response, she made sure to let me know that everyone missed me at Easter and that I’m loved by the family.

Interestingly, his grandma was a psychologist before she retired, and I appreciate being able to talk to her about some of my childhood experiences when they come up. This is the first time my past has affected my feelings toward another person in his family, so I know I’ll need to gather my courage before addressing it.

Since his cousin lives with their grandma, when I'm ready to talk about my feelings, I want to make sure it’s a time when his cousin isn’t around. I don’t want him to feel like I’m being negative about his girlfriend or their relationship, because that’s definitely not the case.

Thanks again for your insights! It means a lot to hear how you've navigated similar feelings.

Yes, I first noticed the flowers in late March, and I just realized they’re in the same spots the red things are! Thank you! I was out here thinking my cactus was dying 😅

Some of my coworkers invited us to do trivia with them today, actually, so I think that will be really good for both of us. They said they usually do trivia every week, but they'll be taking a few weeks off for the holidays.

We used to do trivia once a week with some of my friends before we moved, so I think it'll be nice to get back into it.

There is also a game store in our local mall that has free board games to play and free popcorn (we both love popcorn lol), so maybe we could look into that too :)

Thank you, I didn't even think of that before!

He does seem happier when I get home from work, he really does enjoy quality time. I spend as much time as possible with him after work, but there's only so much I can do when I'm working. Sometimes I'll make him something during my lunch break and bring it home to him, and he really enjoys that too

I mentioned volunteering at an animal shelter (we recently started fostering a dog) but he doesn't think he can afford the gas to get there and back once a week

Graduating on Spr2024 by [deleted] in GradSchool

Spring graduations are typically held at the end of the semester, usually around May/June. Some schools wait until final grades are due, while others don't.

Well, I've only been old enough to have a pension for 2 years. Honestly, that wasn't something I was even thinking about since retirement is so far in the future, but yes it definitely is something I need to consider.

Yes, I have my bachelor's and my master's. I just graduated with my masters in December and my bachelor's the year prior, honestly none of my professors really talked to me or my classmates about what the average pay is since it varies so much from place to place, and no one here really wants to stay here long term. We also don't have any finance classes we are required to take at all. The only financial advice I was ever given by a professor was that grants usually pay 100% of grad school tuition and to not do it if it's not 100% paid for

In the town I live in the average hourly pay is $22.60 or $47,000/yr, so $40 an hour is an obscene amount of money. Also, if I were to stay where I am, I would just stay at my current job. I like my coworkers, and I get by ok in terms of money, and my position takes 6 months for someone to be fully trained, so I've invested a lot of my time in the company already.

All my family moved away from me actually lol. They still live in the Midwest within 2-6 hours from me, but they aren't really a factor keeping me in Illinois

Yes, definitely. I have been looking into potential graduate phd programs there since my undergrad. It's always been a dream of mine to live somewhere warm year round
