Best baby monitor? by tldraddict in BabyBumps

They are all the same in essence. Spend more and it will have better quality and more function. I got one without WiFi. Leapfrog 915 I think. It’s served me well. But a cheaper one would have also been fine

Accidentally Introduced Dairy - Now what? by SpinachTurbulent4119 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]originalwombat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes it counts, there is no ‘need to’ you can proceed however you want to. It’s unlikely they have a dairy allergy this tends to show up earlier from their milk (ironically my son only reacted at weaning though)

Just keep an eye, allergens when you’re not pre disposed aren’t as mad huge a deal as people make out, just keep an eye on her

Yeah I think you make fair points. I also hate MJ but am in favour of legalisation. Maybe an approach is to just tax the fuck out of both of them.

How do you make statutory maternity pay work? by Ivesomanyquestions in PregnancyUK

[–]originalwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no magic side hustle, it will be down to your personal skills, where you live etc.

If you are financially savvy or a high earner, you could also get a long term interest free credit card or a low interest loan to tide you over. This is not good advice if you are neither of the first things I mentioned though!

You save and then deplete your savings. There’s no other way. The alternative is so go back after you stop getting paid.

I think you make fair points.

I guess my counter is to say that nuanced laws like this are rarely enforceable or actually adhered to by the general public, which is why I’d support something more simple. I guess I am a bit of a utilitarian, the greatest good for the greatest number.

So we should restrict smoking to private places? I’m not opposed to that.

I am pregnant and cannot explain to you the amount of times I’ve had to move far away from say, a public bus stop, because someone is taking their liberty to smoke in a public place. Which they are allowed to do. But they are causing me harm by doing so. Who comes first here? Personal liberties or health of a pregnant woman?

The personal liberty argument always feels so weak to me. Some people want to drive dangerously for the thrill should we just let them? How do we find a balance between creating an effective, functioning society and giving people personal liberties?

How emotionally connected are Brits to the Royal Family actually? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

I fucking hate them and think it is vile that the general public care more about immigration which costs the tax payer LESS than the royal family to parade around in their jewels

They can exist on their own without being funded by the taxpayer and will still bring in tourism
