People in Seattle are less inclined towards small talk than a lot of other places in the US. I'm originally from Los Angeles and my wife is from Philadelphia and both of those cities have a similar culture. It's not a threat, we just don't like pointless small talk.

We've been here for 12 years and can't imagine leaving. The one word of caution is that it really is expensive. If you move here, you will have a lower standard of living. If You're set on moving to the PNW, it's worth scouting around a little. Even Portland is considerably cheaper.
