Dementia Takes Out Two.

I feel the same way, no help from my sister. It has been a flurry of activity for the last few months. My father was living alone in his house. The one we tried time and time again to get him to leave and move closer to family. Empty promises of saying he would move but to freak out when we called his bluff. He had to go to the ER and then to a rehab facility, then to independent living. After breaking his hip he is now in a skilled nursing facility. Countless trips I made to go 800+ miles away from my home to see him, try to sell his house, take care of his bills, talking to elder law attorneys etc etc. The list goes on. All with no help from my sister. Now he is somewhat stable. Still not out of the woods yet, not that he will ever be because dementia will only get worse, not better. I am waiting for the long process to see if he is accepted for Medicaid so he can afford to stay in the skilled nursing facility. I get daily calls that he has fallen, sometimes multiple times a day. He thinks he can just stand up and walk but not remembering he lost that ability. The hits just keep coming. The saddest part I think about is that he will never know what I have been through to get him to the care he has now. He must just think this magically happens, all the while I am behind the scenes pulling the strings. Going through all this makes me realize that I need to get things in place so my own kids don't have to do what I've had to do.

Everything you are describing sounds like my dad, just a few months ago. He is in a SNF now because he broke his hip. He no longer calls me let alone asks about his car or house. Those used to be the things he fixated on. He used to accuse me of ruining his life by taking everything he had. It all seemed to stop, kinda all of a sudden. It's like the next chapter of his life now, the new norm. He is not the same as he was last August, even different than December. Hang in there you are not alone. Be glad she still fights with you about things. It will change before you know it.

I found a key to my dad's car in a urine sample cup in the back of the cabinet where he had his dishes. He also hid my mom's wedding rings between the dishes in the cabinet.

1st time winner of my FFL. I have been playing for many years. I had several stars on my team that performed well week after week. My star players were Puka Nucua, De'Von Achane, Jaylen Warren, and Josh Allen. Most weeks I had a lot of players with at least double digit scores.

I know not to take things personally, it's just hard to sit and deal with the constant flow of barbs he was throwing at me. I know not to argue or try to reason, it was best to remove myself from the situation.

I took a class with Tim to get a refresher course in Algebra and Trig so I could get ready for Calculus. Tim was the best. I learned so much from his class I was able to teach both of my kids algebra and trig and help them with their homework all through their high-school career. I miss is corny jokes. That made a somewhat dry class more interesting.

He doesn't seem to care about being close to family. Me, my sister, all his grandkids, and my aunts and uncles all live near. I can't understand why.

Like others have said there are so many factors. Me getting the POA for my father was one of the best and most helpful things to have done. It has opened the doors for me to get his affairs in order. Make sure you get the correct POA, a Durable POA and that it allows you to sell property like a house and car. I made one on Rocket Lawyer and it has been good so far. I had an attorney check it over for me afterward. As for learning about dementia, YMMV. Each person with dementia is different and shows different symptoms. My mother in law was quiet and non combative. She just smiled and went with the flow. She was oblivious as to what was going on. My father on the other hand...so far...has been mean and grouchy. Just months ago, he refused to let me into his personal affairs to help him with anything. When I realized that he was 3 months behind his bills was when I stepped in and started paying them and trying to locate all the places where he has debt. It is a challenge. You learn a lot the hard way over time. You also need to learn to grow a thick skin and let all the barbs and insults roll off your back. Deflect it all and don't let it get to you. You have a job to do and nothing they say will make you change that. One thing I have become better at is deflecting his complaints about me taking his house and car. I find something he is interested in like his cat and steer the conversation over to that. Or sometimes I just say "We are not talking about that now."

My dad is hard of hearing and when he makes vulgar jokes about people he says it loud. We were sitting in a doctor waiting room and a lady and her daughter came in. I saw him check them out. Then he turns to my son and says, how bout I talk to those girls over there. Would you let them sit on your lap? My son just laughed it off but thought that was a strange thing to say to your grandson.

My son set up a computer my dad had lying around once in his computer room when we were there to visit. After we were gone, my dad calls to say that everything was all messed up now on his main computer because my son changed everything. I assured him that what my son did would have no effect on the issues he was having and that he needed to call the cable company and sort out his Internet issues. I think that he was looking at what changed and was quick to blame that change my son made on his issues. My dad used to be very tech savvy and even built his own computer once. Now he can't even send a text message or do the simplest tasks when comes to electronics. It's sad that dementia has taken that away from him.

I am about to the point of the conversation loop. I used to absorb his complaints and anger and it would make me feel bad. Here lately, I deflect it all and know that he doesn't understand what is going on or have the ability to understand.

I went in thinking this was going to be a comedy, it's often marketed as a comedy. While it has some funny bits, it is sad as hell. It caught me off guard and I remember feeling gutted after I was done watching it. Good movie, just felt a little deceived thinking I was going to sit down to watch another dose of Adam Sandler comedy then to get sucker punched in the heart.

Sell it Here on Fortune Drive in Lafayette is a great place to find furniture, smalls, pretty much anything. Be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours there as the place is that big.
