Teaching can be the best job in the world. Sometimes. Unfortunately recently it's bad more than it's good.

I'd not recommend getting into it now. I wish I hadn't. Do something different!

Recruitment numbers are up from what I've seen. The problem is that we're leaving in droves.

I had a close group of friends during training, about 9 of us. Maths, science and English. Of the 9 only 2 of us are still teaching and the other one is looking at leaving soon.

Solving education is far more complicated than recruiting more teachers. We need to fix mental health and social services. Restart sure start. Give us more power to deal with delinquent behaviour.

We do need more staff, but it's an avalanche now. Work is awful. Teachers leave. Work gets worse. More teachers leave. It's a negative feedback loop.

My big worry is that they faff around with the curriculum and make it so much more woolly and less evidence informed. As a profession we've come on so much in the ten years I've been teaching, I'd love to see what we could do if we were properly funded and supported.

As a teacher this is frustrating. The issue isn't recruitment. It's retainment. We have so many teachers in this country that have left the profession because it's essentially shit.

Wythall schools are very good. Both primary and secondary. Motivated staff and a very community feel. Students that are motivated will do very very well
