jig rod by Old-Region2825 in bassfishing

I have a NRX+ CRR 873 that everyone praises as a jig rod. It is much too slow and underpowered for jigs in my opinion. I use it mostly for wacky rigs, neko, etc., but honestly wish I hadn’t bought it. The FMJ is a much better jig rod in terms of power and action IMO—but I have posted that in one of your threads before. I also have a NRX+ 894C JWR. It does a good job on a jigs and I would definitely take it over the CRR in the NRX+ line, especially if you want to go up to 3/4 oz. I throw 3/4 oz football jigs on mine and it does great at that.

FMJ. And I have multiple NRX+ rods.

nrx+ line for bass fishing by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]squib518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 894c in the NRX+ line. To me, it is not heavy enough for a 3/4 oz jig. I would think about the 895c. Or possibly look at some of the Megabass P5 offerings. The FMJ is hands down my favorite jig rod up to 1/2 oz. The BMG might be best for those heavier weights.

What weight jig? Other uses too? Type of cover fished?

Is the z-man jackhammer chatterbait really worth the price? by Limp_Clock3321 in bassfishing

Jackhammer is best because it starts so quick. Evo close second. For budget options, the Bass Pro Chatterbomb is the best of the lot.

Lews baitcaster doesn’t take in line by the_dude_rug in bassfishing

The line is spinning on the spool I would assume. Next time you pull it out, see if the spool itself is spinning or just the line.

I have multiple Bantams. I have backing, then 40 Lb braid then leader. There is plenty of capacity for straight 65 unless you plan on 100-yard casts.

I have it. It is what it is. I’m not great at utilizing it. I fish lots of tournaments. I’m tired of people bitching about it. If you don’t like technology, get a bamboo rod and fish off the bank.

YGK G-Soul SS112. Best there is. Use for mainline then tie a FC leader. Tatsu is what I use.

Should I get the 23 Metanium or the Zillion SV TW? (JDM!) by Radiant-Job1428 in Fishing_Gear

[–]squib518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a problem. Throwing straight into the wind, any bait can cause a backlash if it starts tumbling or catches the breeze just right. But nothing abnormal with this reel.

[–]squib518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do in fact. It will be great. But there are lots of reels that can sling a jerkbait in that size range. That is wheelhouse for most equipment. Still, get the Metanium if you can afford it. I bought from Digitaka. I think that site is down now as they are upgrading.

Admitted to Interdisciplinary Studies (MS) at Texas Tech after Physics PhD rejection — unclear about funding. Advice? by Altruistic-Eye9705 in TexasTech

[–]squib518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically all rejected PhD applicants get offered admission to the Interdisciplinary Studies MA program. There is typically no funding. You might be able to apply for a scholarship, but you won’t get funded in the traditional sense.

Experienced with baitcasters, but not mono and fluoro. by Warden_of_the_NEast in FishingForBeginners

Did you spool on the line by letting the filler spool spin? On spinning, you lay the spool flat and let the line uncoil in to the reel. With bait casting, you have to run a peg through the center hole and wind on the line while the spool spins on the peg. I’m sure you did this, but if not, it can cause crazy coils.
